Honestly? Teddy didn't want to be here.

At a glance, it seemed like every professor from BOTH schools were here, including the headmaster and headmistress. It was unnerving, especially knowing how curt and matter-of-fact and strict the Beauxbatons adults were all the time. It wasn't that Teddy was really worried about himself - he was always well-mannered and on his best behavior - but he had noticed time and time again how the French professors got mad at the Hogwarts students, the Hogwarts professors looked all kinds of embarrassed on their behalf, and the secondhand embarrassment on Teddy's part was real, too. He also didn't like the idea of being grouped in with the Hogwarts kids who were being dubbed disrespectful by the Beauxbatons professors and assumed to be just like them. The stereotype of "rowdy Hogwarts kid" didn't fit him, and he didn't want to give anyone a reason to think otherwise.

Tavie and Yoyo were way more excited for this than he was, which was not particularly surprising, but it put him in an awkward position. If he went to join them, attention would inevitably be drawn to him as their group was always lively, which might get them in trouble with the Beauxbatons teachers. But yoga was certainly not his preferred method of physical activity. Quite far from it, actually. He'd rather go for a run or practice his boxing to maybe some day be a fair match for Hassan Botros.

But he felt like he had to be here. The instructors were here, his friends were here, everyone who was anyone was here, so... here he was. Putting on a brave face, but not a brave enough one to go join Yoyo and Tavie -- nope, instead, he stayed as far to the back of the crowd as he could, using the heights of Professors Schmoe and Fuller-Thompson to his advantage by hiding behind them. He was there, he was listening, he would participate, but he wanted to stay out of the way.

...A ball? There was going to be a BALL? His reaction was out of his control: his face lit up and he found himself peeeeking around the adults in front of him to try to catch glimpses of his friends, who he assumed would be elated. He wanted to SEE them light up, to see their joy, and it was EXCITING to think of them all going to a ball together.

The news of no Quidditch was disappointing solely because Teddy loved to watch. It wouldn't have been as cool as going to the Arrows games anyway, but he supposed with the whole crisis at Hogwarts and overcrowding problem here at Beauxbatons, this was for the best.

As people shifted and moved to obey the French woman's instructions to drink some water, Teddy opted to stay put. Retrieving some water meant risking people noticing him - and quite the sea of people it was - so he was content to risk dehydration for the sake of dampening his anxieties. It was safer back here.
