Default Review: "Official Secrets" costarring Ralph Fiennes, Rhys Ifans

Those who kept a keen eye on British news and politics back in 2003 might remember the name Katharine Gun, who leaked British intelligence information about the UK's involvement and corruption into getting involved in the Iraq War.

The soon-to-be-released thriller 'Official Secrets' retells Gun's story in the most dramatic, thrilling fashion. Directed by Gavin Hood and with a star-studded cast including some familiar faces, including Harry Potter alum Ralph Fiennes and Rhys Ifans, 'Official Secrets', ties the key players of the story - from Gun to the government and the reporters who broke the story - in a seamless fashion.

British actress Keira Knightley plays Gun, who is both in fear of her life for leaking the information, but proud and unapologetic in the world-changing decision she made. The intricacies of the story, from how the story broke to the world (with a few glitches), the media's perception, and the British government's take, are told so concisely and in such a dramatic fashion that viewers are almost at the edge of their seat, desperate to know what happens next - even though we well know the results of the case from over 15 years ago.

Fiennes gives a subtle and strong supporting performance as Gun's human rights lawyer, trying to help her from being arrested and branded an enemy of the state. Ifans is a hard-hitting journalist who'll stop at nothing to get the truth. They're just two parts of a strong cast that bring the story together, and leave viewers anticipating the next scene as more and more of the truth unfolds.

'Official Secrets' will be released in limited theatres from IFC Films on August 30 in the United States.
