The least seen employees within the entire department, Oceanologist are magical explores tasked with traveling the globe in search of new and rare marine plants to return to the UK for the advancement of potion studies and other experimentation. Their job is strictly field work with minimalistic desk time, and they frequently collaborate with other Oceanologist offices local to the marine areas visited. These magical explorers are skilled in nonverbal spellwork and underwater magic as the majority of their tasks are spent in aquatic areas. Defensive skills are also an obligatory requirement as an Oceanologist will never know what they are up against in the unexplored waters of the world.

Junior Oceanologists

The Junior Oceanologists participate in all expeditions headed by the Oceanoizardry Division, collaborate with other divisions when required, and meet set objectives. They are active in research and exploration projects whilst furthering their studies in Oceanoizardry, Magical Ecology, and Wizanthropology and gaining necessary skills in relation to the Oceanoizardry field. They have access to the Ministry greenhouses for research and training purposes under the supervision of senior members of the division and/or the Head Oceanologist.

IN-DEPTH

Caroline was born to Kayne and Dorothy Norton on the 22nd of April, 2078 in Cardiff, Wales. The Norton children grew up spending a lot of time in nature - it was not uncommon for the family to go cycling, kayaking or broom riding together during weekends. As a result, Carrie developed a love for the environment since a young age. However, she had little interaction with people outside of her family and lacked confidence in the occasions when she had to speak to others, whether that be adults or children her age. In the summer of 2089, Carrie received her Hogwarts acceptance letter. Although she was afraid to step out of her comfort zone, she was also really eager to go to school and so she decided to give it a try.

At Hogwarts, she was Sorted into Hufflepuff and was surprised to find herself easily making friends for the first time in her life. As a friendly and hardworking person, she tried to balance her social life with her studies. She did particularly well in Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology, her two favourite subjects. She first discovered her passion for aquatic life when she went on a secret expedition under the Great Lake with a few friends. Although she did not dare to venture deep enough to come across any dangerous creatures, she was nonetheless fascinated by the experience. From then on, she began to be curious about plants and creatures that live underwater, as they were not covered extensively in the school curriculum. She devoted much of her free time reading and asking about aquatic life, going beyond what she was expected to know for her OWLs or NEWTs.

After graduation, Carrie furthered her studies in Stuttgart Wizarding University, located in Germany. She graduated two years later with a degree in Oceanoizardry, as well as an open water diving certification, which she acquired during her summer holiday in 2097. The twenty-year-old returned to the United Kingdom and worked as an intern zookeeper in the Aquatic Reef enclosure at Scamander Zoo for half a year, where she learned how to take care of marine creatures like Grindylows and Ramoras. Although she loved working with animals, she knew that a job in a zoo was not what she truly wanted. She wanted to see the world and explore the magical ecosystems out there - and the Oceanoizardry division in the Ministry of Magic seemed like the perfect place where she could make her dreams come true.

Hence, Carrie applied for the Junior Oceanologist position in the Ministry of Magic.

PERSONALITY

While Carrie may be seen as a calm and shy person, she will light up when talking about the things and people she loves. Like a true Hufflepuff, she is friendly, hardworking and patient. She has a deep care for magical plants and creatures, particularly those living in aquatic environments. On the other hand, Carrie is not very organised - she has a tendency to misplace things and get distracted easily.
