To her surprise they wasn’t going to be dealing as the professor put it with winged horses but Augurey. That might be as equally exciting for her. Maybe. She raised her hand, since the professor had made a special kudo about raising their hands before answering. Who did that, really? ”Augureuys are also known as the Irish Phoenix,” Just a small contribution to the conversation.
Alek didn't respond vocally. He nodded before flicking his wand and a list started to write itself on the board. They wouldn't get praise for easy answers. Praise needed to be earned. He quickly moved on to the next hand in the air.

There was still so much anger in him over the former professor's actions and under ANY authority that would have earned a proper sacking. Only given the current climate...it was the worst possibly thing he could have done to his students. Perhaps it was more a self fulfilling prophecy since Derf was fairly certain that the aim was to get all the 'old' staff fired and in with the new militaristic aesthetic the headmaster seem to be going for. Though, well, sometimes Derf wondered if the new professors went out of their way to act menacing - save for Professor Fletcher who Derf still honestly did not mind too much.

Kinda like how Professor Petrov kept smirking right now. Though he reckoned that was just because he was in on a big reveal with the lesson - as he ought to be considering he had planned it.

Augurey though. This was BOUND to be neat. So his hand immediately went up.

"They are terribly misunderstood and misrepresented creatures. Rumored to have a cry that foretells death, they are merely super proficient and informing us of when it is about to rain."
With a nod and another flick oh his another bullet point was added to the list on the blackboard. Derfael was a plethora of knowledge about creatures...

NEXT!

Alek raised an eyebrow at that answer. There were only two other things they ate couldn't she supply the rest as well? The next bullet point made its way to the blackboard as he moved on to the next student with an answer. Hoping it was more informative.

She'd never say it out loud though because that would be mean. What did she know about them. She raised her hand and when called on, "You can't use their feathers as quills because they repel ink."
Alek nodded. That was actually a very interesting tid bit. But no extra credit deary. We don't play that game. Another flick; another bullet point.

Jessa couldn’t remember the last time she was excited about what she’d be learning in a lesson and the new, rigid structure they’d taken on only seemed to further dim her interests. These days, it was a miracle if she didn’t zone out for most of the lesson—something proving harder and harder with these professors actually requiring input.

Gone were the days of her remaining silent and cruising through the lesson. Some now gave punishment for a lack of participation—a few more effective than others but none she could be bothered with....so she tended to answer.

“They’re magical creatures."

How much thought she put into her answers was another story entirely. Mentally, Jessa had already checked out of Hogwarts. All that remained was her physical self and it could seldom coax her mind into serious thought. An answer was an answer, further more it was an accurate answer.

That was all she was required to give.
With that answer he turned to the Head Girl with a sneer, "OH, are they really? We are only in CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES! Couldn't come up with anything better? That's 5 points from Ravenclaw for a lackadaisical response." He turned away rolling his eyes.

Absolute children.

SPOILER!!: Blackboard
AUGUREYS
  • Known as the Irish Phoenix
  • Misunderstood and misrepresented creatures
  • Rumored to have a cry that foretells death but actually they predict rain
  • Eat Fairies
  • Can't use their feathers as quills because they repel ink

Alek took a deep breath. He couldn't help his anger sometimes, especially when students gave lazy, unimaginative answers. Jessa was supposedly the smartest student at this school. He had yet to see that. But this was a lesson and it wasn't about her lack of knowledge. He needed to move on despite the annoyance.

Giving Hera a quick rub to calm him down he cleared his throat before speaking. "Before I go into more detail about the creature, what do Augurey's look like and what is their native range?" He asked in a very fake sweet voice. His patience was wearing thin already. It only took one student to ruin a good day. But he wasn't going to allow anyone to do that.

OOC: Again, very straight forward. Please try to give one detail of what they look like to give everyone a chance. You have 24 hours before we move on.
