The first photos of
Harry Potter actress Emma Watson on the Boston, Mass. set this past weekend of her upcoming period drama
Little Women was released online. Based on Louisa May Alcott's famed novel,
Little Women follows the story of four sisters and their mother in post-Civil War America.
Watson takes on the role of one of the March sisters, Meg, a role she was brought on for after the originally-cast actor, Emma Stone, dropped out earlier this year.
A synopsis of the story is below.

The story will center on the March sisters’ lives as young adults after Meg, Jo, and Amy leave home, and will portray scenes from the girls’ childhood as well, jumping back and forth in time as the women develop their identities and deepen their bond. “It’s really taking a look at what it is for a young woman to enter the adult world,” Swicord said. “It’s a clear-eyed approach to the challenges women face as they try to bravely move into new situations.”
This latest adaptation of
Little Women comes from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig, and also costars Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, and Eliza Scanlen as her on-screen sisters alongside Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, James Norton, and Chris Cooper, and will hit theaters on Christmas 2019.
