She blushed at the compliment and held her head high. Professor Stewart was right. It was their loss. They were supposed to be the adults, not her. Either way, she was thankful to be with such a wonderful person, in a fantastic home, feeling like she belonged again.
As she roamed about, grabbing ingredients and stirring the start of their meal, Emmalyn glanced over at Kay as she looked in the photo album. "Is that you and your dad?" She asked as she noticed the smile on both of their faces. Little baby Kay was adorable and appeared to have such joy in her eyes. "It has to be family. I'd recognize that smile anywhere." She moved around the table and sat in the chair, next to Kay, while the soup came to a boil. "Is there one of your mother?" Her eyes scanned the photos, searching for familiar features on the faces to connect them to Kay. "Would you tell me more about them? Your parents?"
Hearing the soup start to boil, she hopped off the chair and started stirring in the next few ingredients. The aromatic steam was heavenly to inhale while she stirred. Her stomach growled in anticipation and she wished she could speed up the cooking process without losing any flavor. "It shouldn't be much longer."
