Dealing with the actual flame to sterilize the tools seemed troublesome so Septimus was sure to be cautious about it. Nothing like getting burned to ruin the class…well for him anyway. The boy took a hold of his glass stirring rod and bending to better get to the flame. Blue part…blue part…there. The rod being slipped in tentatively and twisted around a few times before slowly pulling it out. Then it was replaced by his knife to repeat the whole process. He was relieved when it was all over and his tools were successfully sterilized.
Both stirring rod and knife safely put aside, the Ravenclaw moved onto the next steps. First, the leaves coming off the woody stem of the rosemary. One by one starting from the small end as he dragged it through his fingers as demonstrated by Professor Noble. Then he took up the newly sterilized knife and began chopping up the leaves nice and fine, scooping up one TABLEspoon when he was done. This was then sprinkled over his cauldron before stirring.
One…two times clockwise.
Onto the murtlap tentacles, his knife at one point, then slowly and carefully slicing it all the way down in half. Septimus added the 10 drops of honeywater on top of the halves before getting his fingers all dirty and mixed up in everything. Then it was added to his cauldron as well followed by the tea tree oil.
One…two…three…four…five.
