The bright side was that quite often Bel's Care of Magical Creatures experience in the United Kingdom was confronting something new and exciting.
"You are very welcome, Bel." Tristan gave the young girl a smile and started his walk about the class again.

Soon, Tristan made his last turn about the semi-circle before heading back to the front and standing in his spot in front of the class. "Alright! Times up!" With a flick of his wand all of the students' parchments flew into the air, rolled up, and flew straight into the basket underneath the blackboard as neat as could possibly be. This was to ensure that no one was able to change their answers as they went over the information.

With another flick of his wand, a light turned on over the blackboard and the descriptions of each bat appeared:

Bat 4: Brown eyes, brown fur with black wings; largest bat. Around 13in
Bat 5: Black eyes, reddish-brown or grey coat, pig-like snout. Tiny! Maybe 1 to 1.5 inches
He noticed that it was growing ever darker, so with another flick of his wand, some twinkle lights that he had set up earlier, turned on in the trees around the circle. It brought enough light that everyone could see better than they had before. He paced for a moment before talking; it helped him to collect his thoughts. When he was ready he stopped dead center in the semi-circle. "Now I am sure most of you didn't know there were magical Bat species. Though I am sure most of you are aware that the non magical Bats are used in many ways in the magical world. From their spleens being used in potions, to being a pet. But only the non-magical are used in those was. The magical species are so rare and hard to find, plus they are pretty dangerous." He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts again.

"Now as most of you know, bats are flying mammals that are native to basically the entire world. They are also nocturnal and/or crepuscular, which means they are most active at Twilight," he gave them all a grin, "or at dusk. I figured Twilight would be more favorable than dusk would be for a lesson." He gave a small wink. "Now most bats eat insects or fruit, except for one line that feeds on something else, which we will talk about in a moment."He paused to make sure everyone was writing down this information in their notes.

He walked over to the floating tree limb that had stopped rotating a few minutes before he started talking. He stood about a foot to the left of the first bat. "The first bat here; yellow eyes, green skin, poisonous. This bat is the Mortis Bat. They are very hostile if awoken during the day, and can be held off by the Knockback jinx, Vermillious, and the Verdimillious charm. They are obviously a magical species." He paused, "The second bat here; Green eyes , pale blue skin, ability Stun. This is a Spectre bat which means it is a ghostly species. When it is disturbed it will attack and can stun. It is also a magical species. The Mortis and Spectre can only be found in Great Britain and many of them live in dark corners of the castle and Knockturn Alley." He paused to take a breath.

"Now the other three are all non-magical. Bat three is a Hematophagous, which means it feeds on blood. It is a Common Vampire Bat. They feed mostly on animal blood, specifically livestock like pigs or cows, but if provoked will bite humans which can be dangerous because this is the species that most likely has rabies. The fourth bat is probably the one you may be most familiar with. They have many names; Megabat, Large Flying Fox, Fruit bat, etc. They are very gentle and only eat fruit, which is why they are the most common pet among Witches and Wizards and can be found at the Magical Menagerie." He paused with a smile, and walked to the opposite end of the tree limb, and gentle picked up the teeny bat.

It was so small that it fit on a single finger from tip to his knuckle. It didn't struggle, in fact it seemed happier on his hand than dangling from the tree limb. "This little one is known as the Bumblebee Bat or the Kitti's hog-nosed bat. It is not only the smallest Bat it is the worlds smallest mammal." He paused to let that sink in. "They can be this reddish-brown color or grey and they only eat insects. Because of their size, they considered vulnerable, which means the possibility of them becoming endangered is immanent. They can only be found in western Thailand and southeast Myanmar." With that being said he gently tucked the little one into a pocket on his chest, and it snuggled up to him right away. It was safer in there anyway.

With a flick of his wand more writing appeared next to the descriptions:

He paused and took a deep breath, "So I have a question for you." He took a moment to collect his thoughts and continued, "How many different Families and species of bats are there in the entire world not counting the two magical species?" He stood in front of the class and waited for the answers to come rolling in.

OOC: Phew! *wipes off sweat* that was a long one! Sorry, but it was a lot of information that needed to be shared! Please be understanding! You have about 24 hours to answer!
