"You professors and your tea." This was said with a pretty smile as she carefully untwisted the scarf from about her slender neck. "Hello, Professor Vance. How are you on this lovely day?"
Time trickled by and when it got nearer to 1.oo pm the students started to arrive. First to step over the invisible threshold to the classroom was Olivia Phillips. Turning her gaze to her Laurel laughed "Hello Olivia, well many of us are a bit batty about our tea. Tea is just a wonderful beverage." Not that she didn't drink other things. "I'm feeling splendid, thank you for asking. How are you dear?"

"Hi Liv" Since it was kind of rude to ignore her.

Still smiling, the girl then went to find herself a seat.
Next student to was Harriet of the badgers. Smiling over at the sixth year she greeted. "Good afternoon Hattie!"

"I'm Sorry i'm...." late?

The Ravenclaw checked the outdoor classroom and blinked when he was one of the first. "Are you kidding me?!" he shouted irritated that he was here as one of the first. Did he just run for nothing?!

"Sorry about that, Professor" he apologised as he finally noticed her leaning against the side of the blackboard and he took a random seat with a grumble.
The next students practically bumbled his way into her outdoor classroom shouting so loud that Laurel in surprise almost spilled out all her tea. Eying the claw boy she reprimanded. "There is no need for shouting in my class Dorian." Shaking her head she pulled her wand out to refill her teacup. As he apologized for his action Professor Vance shot him a smile."Apology accepted Dorian. What brought on the irritation?"

Taking a big sip of her refilled tea cup Laurel waved and smiled to Farah of the badgers as the fourth came in. "Hello Farah!"

Max sat himself at an empty table in the semi-circle that had been created out in the courtyard and pulled a notebook and self-inking quill out of his rucksack ready for note taking.
Next fourth year to arrive was Maxton Carden. Flashing him a smile she greeted "Good afternoon Maxton." It was nice to see that at least one of her snakes had read the class notice and was there on time.

The AUDACITY, people! THE AUDACITY!

Yawning as she walked up, she found Professor V near the blackboard. "Hiyyyyyyyyy,
Profeehhhsaaa,"
she was mid yawn.

And look, they DID get tables!!! Thank Merlin. Zoryn went and sat near Dorian giving him a thumbs up and a "Goodnight." She was just gonna rest her head for five minutes before class started.
Then of course Zoryn happened, just like Laurel had predicted. She'd be the third fourth year student to arrive in a chain of four. Raising her brows at the lioness as she passed by Professor Vance greeted. "Hello Zoryn, did someone prank you with a sleeping potion?" It could happen, it was Hogwarts after all.

To complete the chain of fourth years Zita of the snakes made her entrance even if she looked a bit upset about something. Maybe the friend she wanted to sit with hadn't arrived? Regardless Professor Vance returned the finger wiggle with a hand wave and a smile. "Good afternoon Zita!"

"Hello Professor Vance! Um, I was wondering if I could talk to you after class, or in your office - I wanted to ask you about possible careers in Divination. Ones that, um, are NOT teaching or...writing about it...like my dad," she said, her voice dropping during the last little bit. THAT would be why she hadn't asked HIM about this..
Sipping on her tea that was losing its warmth sadly Laurel was thinking about re-heating it when Scarlett made a beeline straight for her upon entrance. Beaming broadly she greeted the seventh year with a whisper of her own. "Of course, we can talk after class Scarlett. Maybe you can help me carry mirrors and such back up to the tower and we can talk about different Divination careers there?" She understood exactly. Laurel would have done the same.

Letting his bag fall off his shoulder and next to a cushion, he plopped unceremoniously onto the cushiony heaven - oh yes, he did love the cushions - and stared at the items that awaited on the table.

Hoping professor Vance wouldn't mind, he grabbed one of the scented oil bottles and took a sniff.
"Good afternoon Daehyun!" Laurel greeted the lion with a smile as the first year took a seat at one of the back tables. Seeing that he immediately opened one of the oils bottles to take a sniff Professor Vance cautioned "Don't sniff too much, you need a clear head." At least for the first part of the lesson.

It wasn't an asthma attack so she'd take it graciously and work toward steadying her breathing before it got worse.
Jessa's made a wheezing entrance that even Professor Vance could hear from where she was standing. Mildly concerned she greeted with a smile "Hi, are you all right there Jessa?" It wasn't pollen season now, was it? If needed she could send for Healer Macmillan.

Oh. But Jessa was there. How had he missed her before? “Hello, Professor Vance.“ He greeted her with a polite smile before sliding into the seat next to Jessa. “Hi.“ She received a smile too, of course. A big one.
"Hello Cameron!" Laurel greeted with a smile. It had been amusing to watch how he upon entrance had been scanning who was in attendance before he chose who to sit with. Seating hierarchy was apparently important.

"Good afternoon Hanna!" Professor Vance greeted the young Ravenclaw with a smile as she came in and took a seat at one of the tables. Every time she saw Hanna she was reminded that she missed her former colleague Arthur more.

Emmalyn glanced around the table and took note of the various items. She found hand mirrors, some sort of smelly liquid in bottles, and a cauldron. No tea in sight. She was fine with that. She figured they must be boiling or mixing something in those cauldrons.
Those who enjoyed Divination chose tables near the front which was what Emmalyn of the badgers did. Flashing the first year a bright beam Professor Vance greeted. "Good afternoon Emmalyn, its indeed a beautiful day." Giving her tea cup a glance before replying she said "I’m drinking peppermint tea. "Afternoon Professor Vance. Good day for class to be outside." he smiled hoping that she was going to teach a really interesting lesson.
Next student to come was Patrick of the snakes. Waving to the second year boy Professor Vance called over a warm smile pursing her lips. "Good afternoon Patrick, it’s indeed a perfect day for a class outside. Th sun is nice and warm, don’t you think?" You had to take advantage of the days with wamr weather before winter hit.

But upon entering the courtyard and noticing the mirrors, well, that went out the window. Scrying of some sort it was then. "Good day, Professor Vance," the Hufflepuff chirped to the woman as he set his bag down. "Been using that Magic 8 ball by any chance?"

Plopping down in a seat next to Emmalyn, he took out his textbook from his enchanted suitcase and offered the younger girl a small impish grin. "Hey," he chirped. "What do you reckon is in these?" No signs or anywhere telling them NOT to touch things - though Derf tended to not notice those anyway - so he picked up one of the bottles and pulled out the cork to take a good whiff....and his eyes instantly watered. "Holy flaming salanders...that's...strong," he winced, eyed watering from the smell.

Prefect Derfael of the badgers entered the makeshift classroom next looking like he was in a good mood. It boded well for the lesson. As he greeted her Professor Vance beamed back "Good afternoon Derf! I have used my Magical 8 ball. It has been pretty helpful actually, it predicted an accident over the summer that i could prevent from happening."

Professor vance took some more sips of her tea but wished she hadn’t since it had now gone cold. Grimacing she heard and saw how Derf visibly winced when he took a sniff in one of the scented oil bottles. Looking over at him she cautioned "Don't sniff too much. The oils are strong. And remember don't just go sniffing in things you don't know what they are. It can have serious consequences." Hadn't DADA and Potions taught him that?

Not to mention, her head of house taught this subject, which made the captain feel doubly responsible to attend lessons.

Outside was good too, because then if time, she could go fly again. Which was becoming a bad habit, to be honest, but she couldn't sneak in an extra flying session if she had to walk all the way from the Divination Tower, could she? Unless she happened to lug her broom up to class with her and just flew off the tower ... but that might be frowned upon. So yes, good on Professor Vance for hosting lesson outside today. "Good afternoon, Professor!"
"Good afternoon Skylar!" Laurel beamed over to her Quidditch captain as she came in half expecting her to be carrying her broom under her arm. But she seemed to have left the broom in her dorm so maybe she had understood that most professors except Haraldur didn’t like that they brought unnecessary stuff to class.

But that wasn't many layers at all, so once Abra parked himself on a cushion, he wrapped his arms around his body and tried to keep all the heat IN.

"Afternoon, Professor."
Young Abraham Botros came in layered in so much clothing against the cold that he looked to Laurel like a stuffed munchkin. She wasn’t going to say anything about it but she wondered what he was going to wear when it got really winter cold. Flashing him a smile she called over "Afternoon Abraham!"

Slate came into the outdoor classroom and like clockwork he spitted out a comment/question like Laurel had predicted before the class that he would do. It was his usual. Looking over at him she flashed him a smile. "Hello Slate, we never have a class on reading chicken wings just so you’ll have something to ask about and it's not the topic of today either." The last was added with finger wink. But maybe she’d do a food lesson next.

The last student to arrive was Cassandra McNally of the eagles. Flashing a warm smile over in the girl's direction she greeted. "Good afternoon Cassandra!" A glance down at her watch told her that it was high time to start even though she would have wished to have waited for more snakes to arrive.

Straightening up fully from her casual stance, Professor Vance, made her floral cup with the cold peppermint tea disappear with a flick of her wand that she had pulled out of its waist holder. Making her smile bigger she turned her gaze to assembled students. "Welcome everyone to this afternoons outdoor divination class with the courtyard and the warm sunlight as a wonderful backdrop."

Taking out her wand a second time Professor Vance tapped the blackboard lightly making an image of human fingernails appear, stripped and decently clean without any visible nail polish or decorative art.
SPOILER!!: Nail image

While the students looked at the image Professor Vance moved to stand on the other side of the blackboard. Tapping it lightly to get attention she asked "Today our focus is going to be on our fingernails. Before I tell you why can someone tell me how we can use our nails for purposes of Divination?"
