Post 'Fantastic Beasts' sequel to take place in Paris, though not days after, says Rowling

Adding more information to the time and location of the second Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, out in November 2018, Stuart Craig told SnitchSeeker exclusively back in April that the second movie would take place - or at least start off - in Paris (as already confirmed), but also in the year 1926.

As the first movie, out Friday, spans over December 6-8, 1926 in New York City, the sequel will ideally continue almost immediately after the first, or within weeks at most after the premiere installment.

Craig, the production designer of the eight-part Harry Potter series spoke about what's to come in the second movie of the saga at the red carpet gala of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood. That can be seen and read below.

SnitchSeeker: How is the architecture of this Wizarding World different from Osaka and Orlando?
Stuart Craig:
It’s essentially the same, with modifications and even improvements in many ways, but it’s essentially the same architecture edited down. The profile of Hogwarts is a little different. It’s somewhat better, actually. We changed throughout the movies – different requirements for quite different scenes. The silhouette [of Hogwarts castle] got better as the movies went on. This is as good as the best of the movies.

SnitchSeeker: What should we look forward to with Fantastic Beasts? Because you’ve been working on that for the last year now?
Stuart Craig:
Fantastic Beasts – there are hints and references to Harry Potter. It’s set in France, in Paris, in 1926. There is no script yet. The script’s being furiously written by the very prolific J.K. Rowling. And that’s all I can say about it – Paris, 1926.

UPDATE: J.K. Rowling replied back to this particular comment and story about what Craig said, noting that the sequel does not take place days after the first movie, contradicting the production designer. So, for now, it's up in the air.

The second film, as confirmed by David Yates during a press junket in New York earlier this month, will take place in both Paris and the UK. J.K. Rowling announced that the five Fantastic Beasts will span over 19 years, so there's a good chance of a time jump even in the sequel.

Confirmed to return and be a part of the second Fantastic Beasts movie include: Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander); Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein); Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein); Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski); Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone); Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald); Zoe Kravitz (role to be revealed this Friday); and someone set to be cast as Albus Dumbledore.
