Henry couldn't help but to wonder if Professor Hirsch purposely paired them for his own amusement, but he knew that couldn't be the case. Teachers didn't really do that kind of thing, did they? But being his first real duel in the club, he was kind of nervous to go up against Char, even if he tried his best to not outwardly convey it. She was the best dueler in their year and being his first year in the club - not to mention his first actual duel - he was somewhat worried he'd do poorly in front of her.
And though that might have been his initial thought, Henry was also rather excited to be dueling against Char, especially after talking to her about it. Hugs and kisses from her were a definite bonus, and he knew she was right. No matter what, they would have a lot of fun in the dueling arena together. In fact, the more he thought about it, he was sure she was the best person to have his first duel with. He might've not had the chance after his first one anyway, plus he knew he could learn from her expertise, just as he had learned from some of the practice he did with Noelle.
He tried to clear his mind as he entered the arena, just as his friend had suggested, and he gave the girl across from him a grin. "I'm ready!" He stretched his arms a bit behind his back, before bowing to her as well and walking a few paces and turning back with his wand drawn.
The sound of firecrackers at his feet took him completely off-guard and he jumped out of the way in surprise, even if he had been a tad late in his effort. Henry noted that Char cast featherlight on herself which reminded him that Noelle had once told him of that strategy. But before he could cast it on himself as well, another spell was sent his way.
Fulgari? What did that do? Henry wasn't sure he knew that particular spell himself, but his first instinct was to cast a shield charm. "Protego!" He thought himself fairly decent at the defense spells at least, and he used it to deflect her own spell back to her. And figuring an offensive spell was necessary in a duel as well, depending on whether or not she blocked his deflection, Henry also sent Rictusempra her way as well. That was a fun spell.
