Getting dressed for this thing had been it's own special torture. Between her daughters wanting to try on her shoes, to trying to figure out what even was appropriate, Emmalee was exhausted before she even got to the party. As a Department Head, it wasn't as if she could just kick back and enjoy, so her outfit had to allow her to move around quickly as well as convey appropriateness. So as she'd stared into her closet, she'd eliminated most options: too long to walk easily, too low cut for the boss, too fussy for an eventing that was work, etc.
So by the time she'd arrived, Emmalee decided that she couldn't handle much in the way of small talk, so she headed straight for the welcome table. Stepping behind it, she fully intended to spend as much time as possible having short, perfunctory conversations with new employees as they picked up their things.
That... she could handle.
