Two of the nifflers had managed to overturn the headmaster's desk and were scurrying about, sticking their ickle noses into all the draws and digging at the wood in order to snatch some shiiiiiiinies from within the desk. There would be claw marks all over the wood.

One niffler sniff sniff SNIFFED at the human boy when he arrived, the nuzzling his nose at the boy's pockets.
