Agatha perked up when the woman mentioned they'd be studying about the founders of Hogwarts that day. Now, THAT was an interesting topic because Agatha knew the basics.

"Salazar Slytherin had a really high standard and thought only the best could be taught magic." Or only purebloods but whatever. Agatha wasn't a pureblood but she was still amazing so he would totally have picked her anyway back in his days.

He was the one with the highest standard hence they were the best house up until this day. Simple as that.
