Resisting the urge to rub his temples, the astronomer counted to five in his head in Klingon before speaking. "Protocol, Miss Jones," he said simply, taking the wand from the Slytherin and tucking it safely in his enchanted breast pocket. It always amused him how that was the standard reaction to handing over a wand, that it wasn't fair. You know what wasn't fair? That he had to spend his morning in here in detention with the young woman when he could be in the comforts of his office watching Star Trek reruns or working on his manuscript or doing some additional research or really ANYTHING but spending his time in the dungeons away from his stars and celestial bodies.

His eyes narrowed in anticipation as she reached for her pockets, his own wand out and giving a quick wave to cast Protego around himself juuuuuuuuuuuuust in case. Instead of looking terrified, he looked quite smug with himself and foresight as the rat leaped out of her hands and towards him. He did, instinctively, cower for a moment as the rat collided with the Shield Charm and fell unceremoniously to the ground. Biting his tongue so as not to shriek, and his eyes watering just a little from the pain of doing so, he looked at the rat on the ground and poked it with his foot. "A toy rat?" he questioned in an entirely unamused tone as he removed the Shield Charm from around himself and pointed it towards the toy. "Incendio."

FWOOSH. Toy rat was nothing but ash now! BEAM.

"That will be an additional 10 points from Slytherin for sheer disrespect and attempt at giving your professor a heart attack," he huffed, gesturing down the corridor towards one of the closed doors and giving his wand a wave to unlock it. "Your detention will take place in Criminal Cell. You are to enter the dungeon calmly and quietly and slowly. Understood?"

STARE. STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE.
