Post Harry Potter London play potential director, writer announced, more plot revealed

Rumours are surfacing, from the Daily Mail's very reliable Baz Bamigboye (who originally broke the news of the Harry Potter play months ago), that a director and writer have been chosen for the upcoming pre-Hogwarts Harry Potter play for the West End in the U.K.

The British team of Tony-winning director John Tiffany (Once) and playwright Jack Thorne (Let The Right One In) are said to take charge of the play, and are in early negotiations to direct and write the Harry Potter prequel for the stage. Thorne is said to have been pursued by J.K. Rowling to write the play, and the author has met both men in collaboration for the production.

Quote:
'Harry’s early years as an orphan and outcast will be the focus of the drama, which could well be in a London theatre by late next year.'

The piece will also explore the story of Harry’s parents, ace wizards Lily Evans Potter and James Potter.
Warner Bros., who of course produced the Harry Potter film series, as well as the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them trilogy, will somehow be involved in the play.

A top executive at Warner’s explained to me that getting the play right is paramount. ‘We will see what we have when it’s written, and proceed from there. Remember: it’s a play, not a musical; so we may not require a great big theatre.’ But certainly not a small one.
