Why hadn't she received the memo that this was a
formal start-of-term feast?
Vanora would have dressed more appropriately. Instead of looking like she had just left the barn. Which she had, but that was besides the point. She would have to talk to Cece later about this.

And then as if Callie didn't need something else to put a damper on her evening William's seat beside Sophia was taken by some new lady. She had known since William left last year but the actual sight of him gone and being replaced made a bit of her heart hurt. Deciding to suck it up for the time being, Calista leaned over Sophia (not caring if she thought it was rude or not) and held her hand out for the newcomer. "Welcome to Hogwarts! Calista Elwood, Divination."
Doing her best to try and look as small as possible by slinking further down into her seat, why did the staff table have to be so high!?, Vanora kept her eyes focused on the sorting. That was, until a hand was being held out to her and she slowly turned her head to find its owner. Only to be taken aback slightly when she found her.
Wow. Her dress was orange. Very nice. But also very orange.
"Thank you!" she smiled, and knowing that she would not get wet from the rain cloud hanging over the head of the woman she was now leaning over, she gave Calista's hand a quick shake.
"Vanora Newlin. Care of Magical Creatures." Although, that was probably already known. But she just liked to say it.
"I really like your dress." She really did.

And then there was a voice sounding from her other side.
Glancing at the Divination Professor's dress one last time, wondering if she could pull off that color just as well, Vanora turned to the woman in yellow. Such a colorful staff. She really felt out of place. But, there was a smile on her face despite the feeling, and she nodded her head.
"That it is." A great view.
For, you know, someone was was dressed the right way.
Which she would have mentioned, if the woman hadn't started talking to herself. Vanora was just going to try and be small once again.
