Default Review: Above Suspicion set 1 DVD

From the creator of the popular ITV crime thriller Prime Suspect, Above Suspicion is the TV series adaptation of the best-selling Anna Travis book series by Lynda La Plante. The feature-length drama centers around a young, faint of heart British police detective played by Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes). Ciarán Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2) plays Travis’ gruff, no-nonsense boss, who takes the young rookie under his wing. Set 1 from the series features the first two episodes from the series – Above Suspicion and The Red Dahlia.

The first episode, aptly titled Above Suspicion, sees Travis investigating the gruesome serial killings of young prostitutes, while the second in the series, The Red Dahlia, is reminiscent of the famed Black Dahlia case where a body is found cut in half.

It takes someone with a strong stomach to watch this series. Albeit well-acted, it’s chock full of graphic violence and images, including mutilation, as well as nudity and strong language.

This 2-disc set, available on Blu-ray and DVD, is packed with bonus features, including behind-the-scenes segments for both Above Suspicion and The Red Dahlia, cast and crew interviews, photo galleries, subtitles and more.

Above Suspicion, Set 1, is available now on Blu-ray and DVD on Amazon.com or from Acorn Media, the leading distributor of British television in the U.S.

Alternatively, Acorn TV offers online streaming of classic and contemporary British series.
