Default Review: Doctor Who, Series 6, Part 1 Blu-ray & DVD

Only Doctor Who could start their season opener with the death of the main character … or do they?

Never short on twists and turns, the first half of the sixth season of the long-running British sci-fi series Doctor Who gives viewers exactly what they expect – and don’t expect. With the release of Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1 on DVD and Blu-ray, we get seven heart-thumping episodes, running the gambit from run-ins with President Nixon to monks to pirates.

Returning as the Doctor is Matt Smith who truly understands the character and plays his fun, quirky brilliance, engaging self-love and dark moodiness with true passion and energy. And kudos to writer Steven Moffat for taking an already top-notch series and amping it up with unpredictable shockers, while taking the time dig down and make the main characters even more interesting than they already were – no easy feat.

The 2-disc set also contains special feature profiles on two of the Doctor’s enemies: The Gangers and The Silence.

Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1 is available now at Amazon on Blu-ray and DVD and Amazon.co.uk on Blu-ray and DVD.
