Jake's heart hammered against his chest, probably tattooing a permanent bruise on his ribcage. But nevertheless, he reached up and pulled the sunglasses from his face, revealing his blue eyes which did not rise to meet Gevrik's again.

Tucking the sunglasses into his collar, Jake looked intently at the face of the gargoyle for now, very occasionally glancing at Ikenna.

He knew exactly what the man was... wanting eye contact and seeming to talk correctly about things people hadn't mentioned, before now as well. But he wouldn't mention it yet.

Heck, maybe Ikenna already knew Jake knew.
