Default Review: Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales on DVD

Just in time for winter, Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales is a wonderful collection of short scenes and stories about the Peanuts gang and one of their favourite holidays. All the stories aren't necessarily happy ones, and perhaps might even be too sad for young children, such as "Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?" which tells the story of Linus and Lucy Van Pelt moving away from the gang's hometown. Admittedly, the story isn't the gut-wrencher that "Snoopy, Come Home" is, and definitely has a light and happy ending, so there is a positive in that.

The Peanuts gang are at their angst-ridden finest, especially for children so small. Between Charlie Brown's perpetual state of worry, Lucy's confidence, Sally's sweet and innocent silliness, and Linus's wisdom, there is always a character that young and older fans can relate to and adore. And, of course, there is whimsical and rebellious Snoopy, who is cherished by all.

For Peanuts fans alike, the five short installments and bonus track are a great stocking stuffer for any age. All children should grow up with a bit of Charlie Brown in their lives, as it is filled with morally-just storylines and rich characters, both male and female, without patronising children as many current cartoons do.

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales is on DVD now and available on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
