Somewhere in the Middle

A journey lies ahead
for all teenagers today.
A journey to adulthood,
our youth to kiss away.

But as we go we find ourselves
at a truly awkared stage.
We're partial, unripe, sketchy an crude
at this tender age.

We're old enough to make a choice
yet still young in many ways.
Too young to pack our bags and go,
too old to want to stay.

Young enough for fun and games,
too old for carefree lives.
Young enough for hopes and dreams,
yet for reality we strive.

Old enough for heartfelt pain,
too young to find the cure.
Too old for childish ways of past,
too young to be mature.

Old enough to fall in love
and give our hearts away.
But, still too young to understand
just why we feel this way.

We're trusted, loyal, proud and true
yet scolded, sneered and scorned.
Between the role of adult and child,
we are somewhere torn.

Like an uncompleted work of art,
we're awkard, unsure, half-baked.
But be patient please
for we're on our way
to becoming something great.

Seize the Day

Just a moment in this lifetime,
Just a tragedy ahead.
Not knowing where each turn will lead,
Within seconds we might be dead.

Live each day to the fullest,
Do not stop to wonder why.
Do everthing your heart desires,
In dreams, reach for the sky.

Surprises at every stop sign,
With its share of wrong ways and dead-ends.
Statistics don't help you with the future,
They only tell you where you've been.

With so many people among us,
There are no certainties.
And all it takes is just one person,
To reroute history.

Don't waste one single moment,
How ver precious that they are.
What seems a long way off,
Is really not that far.

Numb

The sharp edge of the razor cuts my skin easily.
I'm numb to the pain,
Numb to the blood,
But not too numb to know what I'm doing
One cut follows another,
And another
Till I can't stop
I put the razor down
Blood flows from my arm
I pull my tourninquet over the wound
And go on with my day

Just one of those days

" This is the worst day of my life, "
he says casually
as he has a million plus times before.
He slams the door of her room,
blocking the outside world,
the chaos,
and the yelling.

Everything is always going wrong
and there's nothing he can do.
" Leave me alone!"
he yells,
not really talking to anyone in particular.
He draws in a deep breath.
She inhales his troubles,
his sorrows, his secrets.

He exhales nothing -
all of his feelings stay locked inside.
He keept them close until they consume
his sould slowly-bit by bit.
His angry music blasts loudly,
heard down the street.
But he doesn't care.

He is only concerned with his troubles,
and he can't seem to get them out of his mind.
They stay there eating away his other thoughts.
Jumping onto his bed and laying there
he looks back on his day, sighs,
and gets ready for tommorrow.

It's Just the Way We Are

We hold on to things the tightest,
when we re forced to let them go-
We always want things a certain way,
when we know they can't be so.

Dreams always last the longest,
when they are furthest from our reach-
And the lessons we can learn the most from,
are often the very ones we teach.

The grass is always the greenest,
when it lies on the other side-
And the truths we preach to others,
are often those we can't abide.

We hold fast to the things in a storm,
which are most likely to blow away-
And yet we neglect to wear sunscreen,
on a bright and sunny day.

We spend our time trying to see things,
when perspective is one thing we lack-
And we never appreciate what we've got,
until we can't get it back.

We expect the whole world to give us a break,
and yet ironically we'll find-
That when others come asking the same of us,
we tell them they're out of their mind.

We tell everyone what's wrong with this world,
and we do nothing to make it right-
We complain about families falling apart,
and yet do nothing to keep them tight.

We preach about loving our neighbors,
and we teach children right from wrong-
But we never set good examples for them,
when real chances come along.

We complain about not having enough time in our lives,
to do what we must do-
Yet if we were given more hours in the day,
we'd use up all that, too.

We disire to be close to all those we love,
yet all too often look on from afar-
And when it comes to the truth do we want to change,
or remain forever as we are?

Nightmares

A new dawn emerges
with its layers and layers
of pinks and yellows

As the sun swallows up my
bedroom with satin rays of sunlight
I wake....
sweaty and screaming
foolish and alone.
And so I continue on...
living each day
feeling my sweat ...
and hearing my heavy breath
in the back on my mind
every time silence creeps up on me.

Lat er I watch the sun, so naive
crawl under the horizon...
and I get restless as dusk approaches
for I know that when my head hits
that pillow..
the fight begins...
and it always wins
in the end.

Carrying my innocence off
holding it up to the moonlight
kicking and screaming until
...finally...
it leaves it and walks away
while it is raw and naked
shaking on the cold ground.

...until a new dawn emerges
with its layers and layers
of pinks and yellows...
Good Morning.

Another Statistic
I don't want to be another statistic
Some suicidal teen
Who makes a choice to kill himself
When the world just seems too mean.
He can't go on with life
Or so to him it seems
Reality has fallen short
And so have his many dreams.

I don't want to be another statistic
Some teenager
Who hates life
And tried to give sucide a chance

I don't want to be another statistic
Some kid stung out on crack
Who started at a party
And now he can't turn back.

First cigarettes and alcohol
Now meth, crack and cocaine
He's been smoking it so long
That now he's gone insane.

I don't want to be another statistic
Some dude left in the rain
Who was walking home from school
Beaten and left in pain
He can't tell any one
For it hurts to tell the truth
He doesn't know what he'll do
To make this nightmare end.

I don't want to be another statictic
Some kid out of school
Who dropped out really early
And was acting like a fool
He thought that it was boring
He thought that it was dumb
He doesn't have an education
But lives on the streets like a bum

I don't want to be another statistic
Some stereotypical teen
I'm gonna make a difference
I'll finish with my dream
I won't end up dead
On drugs
I won't drop out of school
Because I'll use my head.

I don't want to be another statistic
To fit into some mold
Of what society thinks of kids today
Because it's getting kind of old.
Not all of use are bad
In fact most of us are good
When will the world see us
And give us credit like they should?
