The Randall House


The Randall House sits at the end of a long winding paved drive leading out of the small coastal village know as Portloe. in Cornwall, UK. set deep in to the craggy cliffs sits a large two story home built of anchor highland stone.The front yard is exquistiely landscaped with rows of hedges and beautiful exotic flowers and a large back yard that ends abruptly with a cliff over looking the water several yards south east of the back door is a slightly worn path that leads down from the yard to the whit sands of the beach below. Where to two Randall brothers spent the majority of their childhood playing . Most in the town would tell you the Randall's were a quite to them selves family that had resided in Portloe, since the days it was founded. However there was much more to the Randall's life was not as peaceful as the locals all claimed, but that's one thing about towns like these secret's are easily hidden....

This is the story of James and Talen Randall's life before,during and beyond their years at Hogwarts.



END OF SUMMER 2053

" Ninty Sis....ninty seven.... ninty ten.... twelve.... one hundred. Ready or Not!" the small boy about the age of 6 with wild blond hair uncovered his bright green eyes and looked around the yard. He ran happily around several trees and statues looking for his older brother. This was the last day of summer before his brother would be returning to school but Talen's mind was far from that right now he was on a quest to be the best seeker the game of hide and seek had ever seen. The rain started suddenly.
" James... Talen..time to come in before it gets to wet out." Their mom called from the front porch.
" Okay MUM. James answered giving his hiding spot behind the fountian in the garden away.
Talen ran for the house laughing trying to beat his older brother across the yard he jumped on the bottom step
" I win!! " he grinned. as his big brother followed.
" That's because I let you, just wait when you get bigger I wont be so easy on you."
" Nuh Uh... I'm faser." He argued as they entered the large house. " Can we play inside?"
" You count again."
"Thats not fair!! I counted already!!!" talen stomped his foot and pouted.
" But you didn't find me ," James ruffled his little brother's hair.
Talen stubbornly glared. " NO Fair! I'm not playing with you no more, you big meanie head." and stomped off.

James shook his head and started to follow after his baby brother he had only been playing and hadn't meant to hurt his feelings after all. " Ty wait."

"Don't you think your a bit OLD for silly games?" A deep cool voice filled the foyer.
James turned and face the stairs his father was at the top of them.
" Dad, it was just -"
"Childish for a young man that is about to be 17 in a few short days. to act that way" he stated harshly.
James eyes drifted guiltily to the floor. " Y.yes sir." he mumbled his dad had always had away about making him feel guilty even when he knew he wasn't wrong..
Mr. Randall decended the the stairs and made his way into his study closing the door behind him. James Stuffed his hands into his pockets and trudged up the stairs to his room to finish packing for school, He turned in for the night.


James had heard the bell then her voice " Is James home?"she asked politely from the door the next morning.his father stared down at her with a sense of unworthiness. Emily was suppose to come by before he left for school and he hoped he would get to the door before his parents, his father wasn't to happy with him for socializing with the muggle girl he would be furious if he learned they liked each other.James stopped dead on the top step his heart sank at the sight she looked up at him tears streaming down her face, as his father stood looking from her to James disgustedly. James started down the stairs .
" I hate you James Randall!!." she sobbed and ran down the path way from the house.
" What did you say to her?" James demanded .
" How dare you take that tone with me boy?!" He spat venomously at his oldest son.
" What did you say to her??" James asked again
" Just the truth it is for the best, mingling with muggles. The silly girl honestly believes you love her.
" I do!" James yelled back.
" Have you lost your mind I will not stand for you smearing our family name with Muggle filth NOT so long as your living in my house" James was toe to toe with his father for the first time in nearly 17 years.

Talen sat quietly hidden by the banister at the top of the stairs to scared to say anything as he listened to his brother, his best friend, arguing with their dad. tears filled his eyes.

" FINE!!!" James turned and stormed back upstairs to his room.

Talen watched james storm upte stairway past him, he jumped up and followed.
" James..." He sniffed rubbing his sleeve across his face.." Are you mad at me? i'll count if you want me to I promise?"

No no Ty I'm not mad at you I promise, I just.. I have to go okay you know I have to go to school today." james said ruffling his lil brothers hair.

" I want to go.. I don't like when you leave." Talen said with another sniff.

James opened his trunk and dug for a moment before he pulled out two small platnuim hand mirrors." Anytime you want to talk to me just hold this and say my name 2 times. and I'll be right here."

" right where?" talen looked ar him confused.

here." james touched the mirror glass and you can talk to me. " but you cant tell any one you have it it's our secret ok.?"

talen smiled and nodded. he gripped the mirror and stared in the glass at his own reflection " James, James" he said wanting to see it work the mirror next to him began to softly glow blue. when james picked it up talen coulds see his brothers face in place of his own. " Your the bestest James !" talen hugged him .

" remember its a secret." james said. " I got to go now okay."

Talen zipped his lips withan imaginary zipper hn james reminded him it was a secret. " Okay. Taen bounced towards the door. and stopped smling back at his brother." See you Christmas James." with that Talen hurried to put his secret mirror in a secret place.

" probably not little bro." james mumbled quietly so talen didn't hear. he gripped his truck and drug it down stairs James looked at his mum who shared the same bitter expression as his father. He stepped into the fire with his things.
" King's Cross " he said That was the last time James would ever leave he wasn't going back.

ELEVEN YEARS LATER... End of Summer. 2064.


Talen wiped the dust off the top of the box he couldnt remember ever seeing it before but there it was he pulled the top off.. and looked inside confused by what he saw..
" What are you doing up here?" he questioned. Talen jumped at the sound of his father's voice behind him and shoved the lid back on the box" Wasn't you going to meet up with your friends this morning before you all catch the train tomorrow?"
" Uhhh..y..yes, sir." Talen said continuing the 3 year long lie to his father. He hurried down the narrow steps to the landing on the second floor where he grabbed his trunk and carried it down to the first floor. " Bye Mum." he said as she say reading she flagged her hand at him not in the manner used to bid farewell but more like goon I'm trying to read. Talen shrugged and stepped into the fireplace. "Leaky cauldron." talen said.

Talen and his trunk tumbled out of the fireplace a moment later he was greeted but a familar voice

END OF TALEN'S 7th YEAR

Talen stepped off the Train in King's Cross.he was glad to have gotten the letter from his brother even if it had been right at the last minute. He didn't have to return to his parents, for that he was thankful.

James stood alone amung the crowd of adults there to greet their children home. He waved and madehis way towards himas he stepped off the train.
" How does it feel being done?" he asked as he greeted his brother.
" Surreal." Talen said "
James laughed " yeah give it a few months it wears off."

" hey James I know I'm just moving in and all... But well.. I have this friend thats well in pretty rough home situation and I sorta told'em if they needed-"

" If they needed a place they could stay right?" James arched his brow.
" I told Alex I would ask you if it as okay by you."talen said.

" It's fine by me long as your friend don't mind sleepig on the sofa. My place isn't near as big as the estate was, but we have an even better veiw of Portloe in my opinion.
" I'll send an owl soon as we get there." Talen said. " Thanks James."
" No problem Ty."

with that they disapperated from the platform Home.

Fallon, your creepy, intimidating owl arrives back to you with a note attached to it's leg. One the note there is a slightly neat writing that says To Talen.

Talen had just about finished unpacking his robes ,old books and seven years of forgot cludder from the bottom of his trunk. When fallon returned with her reply. he read the letter. before giving Fallon a treat. " yournot creepy Fal old boy, " he stroked the bird a few time which hooted in response.

" Hey Ty I hate to bail on you since you just got here but i need oget back to the office fora few more hours will you be okay.

" james I've lived in Portloe my whole life I'm sure i can manage. " we'll be fine. I'm gonna hang around here til Alex arrives then we're gonna head in to town for a bit. "

" you two stay outa trouble alright?" James said see you in a few hours." with that James disapeared with a crack

a couple of hours later Alex walked up the path, Talen had told her earlier his brother's address and she hoped she had found the house. She knocked on the door, putting her trunk on the ground, yes she packed a trunk of things, though she wasn't exactly a girly girl, she still had plenty of things she liked to keep, for example her muggle things from her past and even some of her uncles cds. She waited to see if anyone was home and decided to look at her surroundings.

Talen heard a knock a few hours later, and hurried to answer the door he had breifly forgotten he wasnt at his parents anymore he reached the door and pulled it open. " Hey!" He said with a smile. He noticed hr trunk " need hep wit that?"

Alex smiled at the now Hogwarts graduate. "Hey and thanks, I think I may have packed a little too much, I couldn't help it." She laughed.

Talen laughed and picked up the trunk. He carried it inside. " How was
the trip here? did your dad give you a lot of trouble about coming?" he asked. carrying her thiings in to the first bedroom so they would be out of the way.

Alex followed Talen into the house, even though it was a lot smaller than the manor, it felt more like home home than what the manor did, and she only been there for a few minutes! "It was a little difficult coming, my father actually tried to stop me." She said looking around the room. "Reese distracted him as I snuck out though."

' he'll regret treating you that way one day."Talen said unless he's anythng like mine and James fathere thouht silentlybuthe dared not makethat comment to her.

" I know it's probably as grand as your use to..but it's better than nothing. " Talen said ten he pointed out the rooms " Kitchen's theres, this of course is the living room, bathroom down here and acros the hall there is james room and the second bedroom. "you can sleep there, I'll crash on the sofa." talen insisted he didnt feel right about her sleeping on the sofa.

"I sure hope he will." Alex said before Talen showed where everything was. When he said he would take the couch Alex shook her head. "Talen, this is your home, I don't want to kick you out of your own bedroom, I really don't have a problem sleeping on the couch." She said and went to the couch and laid down on it to prove she didn't mind. "Besides, you're a lot taller than me, you wouldn't even be able to stretch out without having your legs hang out from the arm."

ooc: having problems again, have to restart comp again.

" but your a guest and..." he stopped something told him he wouldn'twin the arguement no matter what." Are you sure? Cause I dont mind really.."


There was a pop sound in the kitcten followed by James voice." Ty! are you guys her--Oh hello." he said walking into the living roon a little surprised to see the girl there.

"I'm sure Talen." She said a smile on her face as she sat up and looked up at him. She then heard a pop and someone's voice coming from near the kitchen. The next second an older guy came out and looked at, a surprised look on his face. "Hi, I'm Alex, thanks for allowing me to stay here for a bit." She said as she got up from the couch. "Er, you look surprised to see me." She said a little uncertainly and looked at Talen confusion on her face.

" Oh. I didn't realize you were Alex.. Guess i was expecting someone a bit older." James said recovering quickly.

" Uhh James this Is Alex Alex this is my brother James." talen said as james gave him a i need to talk to you later look.

" Oh your welcome alex." james said giving her a friendly smile

Alex returned the friendly smile. "It's nice to meet you James." She said quietly, she had a feeling that something was up, the tension in the air seemed a little thick. "Er, I can tell you weren't really expecting someone like me, if it's too much of a hassle I can go back home." She said, she didn't want to cause any problems between the brothers.

Talen opened his mouth to argue. But James beat him to it.
" No, I wasn't implyng, that at all. you are welcome to stay. I just assumed the 'friend' Talen had told me about was... well..he didn't tell all the details of the situation, and i was expecting ...different." James smiled warmly. "You are welcome here anytime."

Talen looked guiltily at his plate." Sorry,"

James instantly felt guilty himself when he looked across the table from Alex to Talen. In just a few short seconds he realized something . " we'll have to work out a place for you here you don'tmind sleeping on e sofa for tonight do you?

Alex looked from Talen to James and back to Talen again before she realized what was wrong. "You thought I was a friend as in a guy, didn't you? Talen must've used my nickname when talking about me, my full name is Alexandra, but I perfer Alex." She said to James, still feeling slightly uneasy about the situation. Then James asked her if she minded staying on the couch. "Actually Talen and I were just talking about that before you came, I don't mind at all, really, no problem for me." She reassured him, she was just glad to be away from her father, even if she had to sleep on the floor she would do that.

James nodded with a smile.
"I do apologize for well the lack of space I have been meaning to make a few modifications. but with work I haven't been able to make any of them"

"Don't worry about it, trust me right now this house feels more like home to me than my father's manor has for the past three years." Alex told him. "I owe you for allowing me to stay for a while, you have no idea how happy I was when I recieved Talen's letter."
