Default King's Cross Station

Clean and sleek, King's Cross Station is one of the main train stations that serves both Muggles and wizardkind. The interior of the London station is exactly what you would expect. Within the Western Concourse are a variety of shops and restaurants (various clothing chains and coffee shops, a ready-made sandwich place, and a small market), so there is no need to leave the station without grabbing any last-minute necessities or a bite to eat. Just make you are using Muggle money when purchasing items, and definitely do not whip your wand out.

Magically concealed between Platforms 9 and 10, Platform 9¾ is famously known for housing the Hogwarts Express and taking students to and from school in September and June. As you walk buy, the occasional Muggle will turn their head but will think nothing of it. If you're departing for school, walk through the barrier, say goodbye to your family, and board the train -- it leaves at 11 AM sharp! If you're arriving from school, wait your turn to leave the platform so that the Muggles don't get too suspicious of there being an influx of people departing the station.

Platform 9¾ isn't the only wizarding platform available, however. In between Platforms 7 and 8 lies Platform 7½, which is used to transport wizards and witches to magical locations scattered throughout continental Europe. There are, of course, other platforms, though they are typically opened on an as-required-basis for one-off events that lure large masses of people into London.

OOC: In addition to the Muggle areas of King's Cross, character interactions on the wizarding train platforms can be posted here.

Dalliesa | Ab-Bot | Hogwarts Trojan War |

Cleo had never come here for Hogwarts. In fact, she never thought she'd allow her child to go to that school. She hadn't been there, never studied there but there were rumors and stories. They were not nice. The fact that her hyper eleven-year-old son, who insisted on wearing a fishing hat today, was racing down the platform with his cart had a two-tiered reason. Mainly, it was his grandmother's decision (as most of their decisions), but also because this first year will be in Beauxbatons, for one, and they may transfer him completely by next year anyway.

So, yes, she walked down the platform with him, her elegant figure still tall and lean, light on her feet just like the ballerina she was.

Ilya paid no attention to his mother's thoughts. All he did was beeline with his cart towards the proper platform. "MAKE WAY! WATCH OUT!" His owl cage toppled over, the owl flapping her wings and giving the ever so owl-y look (although he could swear she was angrier this). "Sorry!! Are you okay, Luna??" He hurried over to the fallen cage, fixed it up on his trunk again and attempted to insert his hand to pet the poor owl. She pecked his hand aggressively. "OW!" He rubbed his hand. "Okay, I deserve that."

Cleo reached Ilya with a stern look. "We've been through this, Ilya, don't pet the owl. Come on hurry over to the wall. You'll be late." A hand over her son's shoulder, she walked briskly with him towards the wall.

Freyr looked around himself, standing at platform 9. He knew there was a way, he heard something about walls but he somehow couldn't remember it. He then started touching walls, tapping on various bricks, but nothing happened. On top of that, he must have been acting too weirdly for the muggle officer because he was coming toward Freyr. Then he those words from who seems like the mother of the boy who was just bitten by his owl. Then, he was quick enough to see where they went. The wall between the platforms, of course. He hesitantly followed them but unlike them, Freyr was running as fast as he can. He thought it may help. After a moment, he was there, looking at the gigantic famous Hogwarts Express. He hoped for finding an empty compartment but then he said to himself "Be brave." But to his luck, there was no room in the compartments that had people so he sat in an empty compartment, trying not to look too excited for someone to sit with him and meet them. He then started waiting.

¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls

Platform 9¾. Michael had never been to King's Cross before, but he was sure this platform didn't exist. He was sure, because they checked it yesterday and there were only 9 and 10, nothing between them. He was actually not even going to bother, but his mum wouldn't let him do it. She dragged him over to the station. 'This is magic, isn't it?' she'd said, 'maybe there's going to open a magical door.' And so they were here, him, his mum and his brother. He puffed, huffed, and pulled his trunk. And when they arrived at Platform 9, there was no magical door.

"Told you," he said angrily in Gaelic - he was actually sad, but he was trying not to think about it. "Let's go. They had been messing with us."

"Maybe - you should do something with your wand." said Mrs. English, "you saw Diagon Alley. You were allowed a wand. And - you know you're different." She looked at him sternly, then checked the watch. "I'll go ask this man." A few moments later she was back. The man didn't know what she was talking about...

"Isn't that an owl?" she pointed at a family of four just as Michael opened his mouth. That was an owl, and a trunk. And they looked like they knew exactly what they were doing... which was... running at a brick wall!? Before she could even open her mouth, their child disappeared!

"Did you see that?" she asked as she turned towards her sons, "that's the gate. C'mon, before they all disappear."

This was it. Michael knew it. They forgot to tell him the secret password or something. He wasn't accusing anyone - that was an owl - WOW! So this was how it was done!?

"Cool!" He ran over to the wizarding family. "So I just have to run? Okay!"

And run he did, half of him still suspected that he would hit the wall, 1 second till collision...

...

There it was. The Platform 9¾, the wizards, the Hogwarts Express... as he was awestruck, he didn't notice that his mum and brother appeared next to him.

"This is it, then..." Brendan said, "it is true, after all. And you're a wizard."

If Brendan was jealous, Michael didn't notice. "Yeah..." was all he could mutter as he took in the scene. It looked marvellous. This was it. It was true. He was a wizard, and he was going to get educated! Until now it hadn't felt real. He did some stuff he couldn't explain all right, but... this was a whole different experience, one he didn't know how to react to. He felt slightly numb. He was going to be away from home, in Scotland. This whole ordeal had been an experience of its own, and he was just getting started.

He turned to his family. "I guess I'll see you... this Christmas?"

Well, his son was a wizard - a wizard away from home. Mrs. English had promised herself she wouldn't cry, but this was too much. Until now, she had been around his son and... able to protect him if he was harmed in any way. But now, he was going to a whole different place with different customs, to a world she wasn't a part of, and even though she consciously knew that he was going to be alright, that he ought to attend this... Hogwarts, she was still anxious only the way a mother could be.

"Please call once there!" she said as she sobbed, "and send pictures. Did you pack your phone? Good. Call me every night. Behave there. Listen to your teachers. Don't break any rules. Don't use your wand on others. Wear tight clothes, Scotland's probably colder than Ireland..." That was all she could say before she started shaking with sobs. Oh, her sweet Michael, so far away! She pulled him into a tight hug.

"Yes, mum," muttered Michael, looking down. If he looked at her, he knew he'd cry too. There were too many months until Christmas. Why wasn't this school in Éire? Anyway, he'd remember to call her once he was there and tell her everything in detail. She already had a copy of Hogwarts: A History, and several other history books they brought from that bookstore, but still. He wasn't going to cry. Christmas was just 'round the corner...

"I'll miss you!" he mumbled as she hugged him, and he hugged her back. The tears started rolling down his cheeks. He sniffed. "I'll send you a photo every day! And I'll call. Every day. I promise!" He began sobbing too. A few moments later, he pulled away, sniffed and wiped his eyes.

"See you soon, Brendan." he hugged him too, and then pulled away. "I'd better be going..." He grabbed his trunk and turned to get on the train. "Goodbye." With that, he hopped on, waved at them on the stairs, and disappeared in the compartment.

Brendan was jealous, but he didn't allow it to show. He didn't even acknowledge it. He'd always known Michael was different, but this wasn't a matter of competition. He was crying too. Even though he was only 14 himself, he knew 11 was too young to attend a boarding school. He hoped Michael would be alright there. And if he was hurt by magic in any way, he'd go show them whose brother they'd hurt!

"Go and learn some tricks, I always wondered how they disguised the rabbit." he said to lighten the tone. He patted Michael on the back as they hugged. "Stay safe and tell them if they hurt you, they hurt us!" That drew bad looks from his mum, but they should know! Just because Michael didn't come from a magical family... no one had the right!

Once his little brother was on the train, he threw an arm around his mum's shoulders, and waved back. "He's smart, he'll be fine," he said to his mum as he tried to control his sobs, "and Christmas is almost upon us!"

"11 is too young..." she sobbed as Michael disappeared into the train. A million thoughts crossed her mind. What if he hurt himself with the wand? What if someone else did? Was there a doctor there? How did they treat illnesses? How hard were the lessons? Michael was pretty smart, but what if... it wasn't wits but blood that mattered and...

...the train sounded its alarm, and the doors closed. She looked at Michael's face from the window one last time as she and Brendan sobbed. Maybe this was a mistake... she didn't know any wizards! This was a mistake, magic just didn't exist! Oh...

The Train began pulling away, and they lingered on, until it wasn't seen anymore, and only then did they begin their long journey back to their Muggle home in Northern Ireland.

Lingering somewhere between platforms 7 and 8, Jack leaned up against the railing. To the people hurrying by, the American wizard likely looked as if he were people watching, but if one looked closely at him, they might notice a slight glazed look to his eyes. In the hustle and bustle of the train station, nobody seemed bothered to stop and talk with him. After all, he was just another traveler waiting on another train. Near his feet sat a worn looking overnight case, carrying paperwork and the goods he’d collected slowly over the past year.

Content, happy, and humming softly to himself, he lingered. Waiting.

Swift and efficient, a trio with a familiar triangular tattoo inked into the sides of their necks rushed into the station as they had been instructed to. They had already secured themselves coats (by what means we will spare you) to cover the majority of their Azakaban uniforms and were on to the second step of the plan.

"That him?" sheered one of the women with blackened teeth as she pointed a crooked finger towards the dippy looking fellow with frizzy hair.

"Reckon it is," nodded a second, a tall lanky man with hollow eyes.

The third remained silent, though was curiously eyeing this Jack Roller's neck with entirely too keen an interest as he extended his pale hand out to receive his paperwork.

Jack was only vaguely aware that someone nearby was talking about him. He continued his apparent people watching until one of the three chattering about him held out a hand. He eyed it for a moment, then leaned down and picked up his overnight bag. He slung it over his shoulder while reaching into it. A moment later a few papers, passports, and what might have been an identification card, was handed over to the man who was holding his hand out.

His cold and bony fingers strangled the documents being offered and, once in his possession, were methodically looked over. His new identity into the indefinite future and once the mission was complete would serve as his ticket to freedom as well. All he needed now was a flask.

Giving Jack an piercing look, his eyes once again hungrily glancing towards the man's neck, he withdrew and turned to look at the other two with a firm nod. Which was apparently all the reassurance the others required as they too approached the delivery boy for their share.

Delivering messages was something she’d hoped to move away from. It didn’t exactly have to do with her job but still, she was nothing if not a thorough employee of the Ministry of Magic. Then again, it did give her a break from the endless supply of paperwork that somehow always seemed to find its way onto her desk so who was she top complain.

Today though, she had a simple job. Catch the train from Kings Cross station across the Themes and pick up her dress from the laundry. Sure, she was supposed to pick it up several days ago and now they were charging her more money each day but that you know, who needs money?

With a small sigh, the curly blonde stood just behind the yellow line at platform 7, her eyes up on the arrivals board which currently showed her train and sure enough, it was delayed. She only had herself to blame though. Apparition was so much easier but here she was, still in her smart black coat and thigh high boots, tired and in need of a bubbly bath and an early night.

Turning away from the arrivals board, her eyes fell upon a strange assortment of people. First, the fuzzy haired fellow (Jack Roller) and then to three others who seemed to be his friends? Or at least, they seemed to know him. And their tattoos…it wasn’t often the ministry worker saw the likes of tattoos of those up on level one with the minister. Strange. Was she staring? Possibly but it wasn't intentional.

Leafing through the documents in hand, the slender man with hollow sunken eyes stowed the lot in his jacket save for a small envelope which he tore open immediately. Whatever was written on the paper had him moving, leaving the other two behind to receive their keep from Jack, and towards the public restrooms.

He casually glanced around the area, noting the curly blonde, but otherwise continued to move and disappeared in the gents loo.

Still staring, the blonde couldn’t help but take one step closer towards the mysterious group, curious what was so interesting about the papers that they all seemed to be drawn around.

Oh, now one of them was heading off into the restroom and… Oops! Had he seen her looking? No, he couldn’t have otherwise he would have said something surely?

Huh. Weird. Reaching into her bag, the blonde pulled out her train ticket, ready to board her train…if it ever showed up! Late trains really were the worst.

Totally oblivious to the other’s man’s hungry stare, Jack continued to hand out paperwork in a manner that was robotic. When all the people present were handed their paperwork. He slipped off into the crowd.

As the crowd enveloped him, the glassy look in Jack’s eyes faded. He paused behind a pretty blond who was busy looking off towards the bathrooms. His eyes fell on the ticket in her hand. His fingers twitched, but eh, it wasn’t really worth anything to him unless he wanted to jump on a train and get out of here. For a moment, he considered the idea. Recent events had him feeling like he was in over his head and if he was one who believed in the art of Divination, he might have taken to heart the foreboding warnings he’d found in his coffee grounds this morning and snagged the ticket, jumped on the train, and got the hell out of London.

But Jack didn't believe in prognostication. He believed in opportunism.

His eyes flicked from the ticket to the insides of the lady’s bag. Distracted as she was, it’d be easy to pick-pocket her. Lightening quick, he reached into the bag, snagged the first thing his fingers touched and then moved on to be engulfed by the crowd on the platform.

Their documents in hand and moving away from Jack while utterly ignoring the blonde's presence (it was for her own good), the duo leafed through things until they too found enveloped and read their contents. Nodding sagely to one another, their next destination was the loos as well.

...and none of the three ever came back out.

As though water had been splashed upon her, the blonde snapped out of her transfixed staring of the strangers with the tattoos and turned as the crowd engulfed her and everyone else on the platform. It seemed as though her train had finally arrived!

Reaching in for her ticket, her hands were met with…her ticket, but also a lot more room than she had remembered. Her hand weaved through the contents of her handbag, searching for her purse. Where was it?! After a moment, a sudden realisation had sunk it. It was gone. Dropped on the floor maybe?

The curly haired blonde looked around for a moment as the people around her bustled past, unaware of her sinking feeling that was rising inside of her now at the thought of the trouble she’d have to go through to get another ID card from the ministry amongst other things.

With a small sigh, her eyes not turning up anything of worth as they searched the ground around her, quickly made for the help desk on the train station. Maybe someone had turned it in. Either way, it didn’t look like she was picking up her dress from the dry cleaning anytime soon.

Kalen had a long weekend off from university and instead of spending in his flat with his annoying flat mates, he had decided to take the train and visit his grandfather. Why wasn’t a collage age- no no – university age student he corrected himself – apparating? Simple really, he hadn’t gone to take an apprating test yet. Sure, he had a license to appate in the States, but not in the UK. Nope. He was a bit behind on that. He really needed to carve out the time for that.
He glanced at his watch wondering if the train was running late.

There is something appealing about riding a train, especially from King's Cross Station. Perhaps Jina likes it so much because it reminds her of Hogwarts, which is strange since she could not wait to graduate while she was at the school. She was, of course, not returning to Hogwarts this fine weekend, but visiting Godric's Hollow. Having lived in the UK for only two years, she did not have much chance to see major landmarks in the country, especially wizarding ones. Now that she was in the adult world, she could do whatever she wanted with her free time - there were no NEWTs to study for or university applications to complete (her university assignments could wait). So here she was on Platform 7½, finishing her coffee and waiting for the train.

Noticing a man nearby who also seemed to be traveling alone, Jina smiled at him. She wondered where all the magical passengers were heading; there were so many magical locations in Europe that she had never even heard of.

He looked up from his watch, eyes landing on a young lady who was smiling at him. He blinked, making him look very owlishly then a slight pinkness spread through his cheeks. Did he have something on his face? He rubbed his left cheek just in case. He wasn't sure why else she might be staring, but then, Kalen wasn't always the brightest mind when it came to human interactions. Which was funny, because you'd think someone who was studying the healing arts would be a better judge of human intention. Nope. The young wizard was just, perhaps a little too innocent sometimes. "Hi,' he said, his American accent noticeable. "Any idea if the train is running late?"

Somehow, she thought she had made eye contact with the man before smiling at him. She must have been mistaken, as he looked confused and rubbed his cheek. Oh no, he did not have anything on his face. She was not trying to flirt with him either! The smile just meant "hello, I see you are traveling alone too, hope you have a good trip!" But of course, she should not have assumed that her message would be conveyed clearly. He probably just thought of her as a creepy weirdo. Looking down at her empty cup, determined not to randomly smile at anyone else, she was surprised to hear him speak to her. In an American accent too. Huh, it reminded her of her former classmates at Ilvermorny. Perhaps he is a tourist from the United States.

"Hmm, looks like it is a bit late," she replied, glancing at the clock overhead. "Where are you heading?"

"Bristol," he said glancing down at his ticket. He was still getting used to the names of places around here. "Visiting my grandpappy for the weekend." He didn't know why, but he felt the need to explain for some reason. "How about you?" Perhaps they were heading in the same direction. It would be nice to have someone to chat with. It was too bad that Anna wasn't here. He would have really enjoyed the long train ride with her. In fact, he enjoyed any time he got to spend with his. But, that's what happened when you were dating a quidditch star - they were often busy training.

Bristol ... that is also in the West Country, yes? Jina had spotted the name of the city on a map while planning her trip around the UK. She remembered that Bristol is not far from her own destination, so they would be going in the same direction. Nodding with a polite smile at his explanation, she thought his grandfather must be pleased to have him visit for the weekend. Not many young grandchildren chose to spend their free time with their elders. She herself lived with her grandmother in Quebec, so it was the opposite for her - she came to visit her parents in London on alternate weekends. "Godric's Hollow. I've always wanted to see the wizarding landmarks there."

At that moment, the train pulled into the station. "There's our train," she said unnecessarily and prepared to board the train. With a wave of her wand, she vanished her empty coffee cup. She was quite excited to depart!
