Transfiguration Lesson I - Always Take The Weather With You

If you care to glance out of the corridor windows on your way to the Transfiguration classroom on this mid-October morning, you’ll notice that the sky is typically dreary for this kind of year -- grey and overcast. Don’t let that get you down in the dumps though, Professor Darlington has quite the lesson planned.

Upon entering the classroom, you’ll be surprised (or not, this is Hogwarts after all) to find that you haven’t walked into a classroom at all. The classroom has been charmed into what appears to be a large, open clearing outside on the grounds. It’s still morning, but in here the sky is a clear pale blue and there isn’t a cloud in sight.

The only thing out of the ordinary you’ll see, is the portable blackboard in the middle of the clearing and this is where Professor Darlington is standing and waiting, arms crossed and expression neutral.

Well, don’t dilly daddle! Come on in and find a spot to stand.

OOC: Welcome everyone! Class has started! Come on in and let's have fun! Remember, although this is the first RPed Transfiguration class of the term, your kiddos will have had lessons with Professor Darlington already. We’ll move on in about 24 hours.

Patrick walked into the...

"Scuse me?"
He stopped dead in his tracks. Was he so sleepy from his late night studying that he had wandered out into the grounds? Surely not. Then he spotted the hallway outside of the doorway, so he was in the right spot.

Turning around he spotted the board in the middle of the clearing. He looked around and wondered if he should sit down or not. He decided to greet the new professor and wait for someone else to decide if he should sit or not. "Good Morning Professor Darlington." He moved off to the left side of the portable blackboard taking a spot up in the grass waiting for another student to arrive.

Miserable, miserable, miserable day. The kind that was lowkey starting to affect Abra's mood, which was a shame, as he'd been in such a good mood for sooooooo long. Granted, he was still feeling decent in spite of the bleakness of the day, so he hitched a smile onto his face as he entered the Transfiguration classroom...

... and stepped into... outside? A nice outside? Huh?

Pausing for a moment to look back over his shoulder the way he'd just come, Abra rubbed his head in confusion before stepping further into... wherever they were. Sure, this was Hogwarts, and this kind of thing was generally to be expected, but that didn't mean it wasn't totally disorienting sometimes.

Anyway... right, yes. "Good morning, Professor Darlington," Abra greeted the woman as he took up a space in the clearing and waited for the lesson to start. Transfiguration was definitely one of his better - if not his best - subjects, so he was ready ready ready.

As long as they weren't doing theory.

Skipping her way down the corridor, Holly had a smile on her face. A smile that even the dreary gray sight outside couldn't wipe from her face. BECAUSE it was getting closer and closer to two of her favourite events of the year - Halloween, and her birthday! And she had been planning her costume last night, and she couldn't wait to finish writing to her Mum to see if she could get some extra things sent over for it.

However, walking through the classroom door into the glorious ... outside... sunshine... made her blink and stop walking. Whaaat???? Pausing and looking around she gave Professor Darlington a smile as she waved. "Hi, Professor.... Uh, nice day." The young girl was confused - slightly... but it was transfiguration and this was Hogwarts... So truly, anything was possible.

...........

UH.

See, Lucas was used to the grey and miserable weather. Sure, he didn't LIKE it but it was October and he didn't really expect it to be sunny in any way. It was why he didn't really care when he looked up at the enchanted ceiling in the Great Hall and only saw clouds up there.

But this?! This was....... new. He froze somewhere near the entrance and looked around slowly, a very, very confused look on his face. He was..... somewhere outside? And it was nice? In the middle of October?!

Huh. Maybe he could get used to this.

He walked further into the, uh, 'classroom' - and there was a blackboard here so that helped - and smiled over at the professor. "Morning, Professor Darlington." And he was just going to go and sit right oveeeeeer..... there. On a good patch of grass that he wanted to dip his feet into.

You know what would make this much better? If they had some FOOD.

Stacks and stacks (not really stacks) more like four University applications had been calling her name. They were still on her table, unopened, untouched except when they were put there. If she wasn’t having to attend this lesson today then she would have been in her dorm or the library probably the library with Slate helping him with his applications too.

Instead she was thankful for the distraction of having a class this morning. It was the middle of October and those would have to be done soon. Anyway she was thinking about all of this as she was walking through the door of the Transfiguration classroom. But what she was really walking into was the outside?

Well...

This should be an interesting lesson. Their seemed to never be a lack of that around here. ”Good Morning Professor Darlington.” As she passed the professor on her way to find a place to stand? Yes stand. No desk. She was kind of starting to get a flashback of last term wit the standing before lessons started.

Valencia headed into the classroom... and then backed up, walked back in again, and then backed up once more. She grinned. The room was magic! How cool was that?

"Hello Professor." she greeted making her way over. She took a quick inventory of what everyone else was doing. Were they sitting? Standing?

Standing. Yes. She would stand as well.

Wow. If Chloe wanted to improve her wandwork, she really needed to take a page out of the book of some of these professors. First they had that crazy bog with the boats in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and now this. It was a pretty bit of spellwork, and Chloe kind of wanted to chat up the professor about it.

Maybe later. For now, Chloe took up a spot near the floating blackboard, up close to the front of the so-called classroom. "Good day to you, Professor. It's nearly a perfect day you've created in here."

Camilus was not too happy to be going to this morning's class. He was a little schooled-out.

Muttering to himself and wishing he could be doing something active today instead of studying, he made his way past students going the other way (probably to some grand adventure), and walked into the transfiguration classroom.

Looking taken aback, but then regaining his compossure, he smiled with enthusiasm.

"This is awesome! Hi Professor Darlington, this is sweet
," Camilus said, sure that he was going to have an even better time than the folks who had walked past him in the hallway.

What was it with professors and making their classrooms appear like something other than a classroom? If the professor wanted to simulate an outdoor environment, why not just hold class outdoors? That seemed like the more logical option to Indigo, but he wasn't in charge so whatever. He simply gave the professor a polite nod in greeting and a "Good morning, professor." As for where to stand, none of Indigo's friends were present yet so he stood by himself.

Let's just be real here---this lady looked like she could bite your head off, chew you up, and spit you out. Now Torii wasn't one to ever judge a book by its cover, but we'll just say she planned to never get on Professor Darlington's bad side. Not intentionally, at least. The fourth year had read and reread the classroom rules and made sure that she was following them perfectly.

On time? CHECK!

Uniform just as it should be? CHECK!

Torii wasn't the least bit surprised to see a charmed classroom upon walking in. Most of the lessons did end up that way, so what was traditional anymore anyway? "Hello, Professor Darlington," she said, spotting the lady. Not wanting to stick around and wait necessarily for a response to that, Torii moved to the side and found a nice spot to stand to wait for things to get started.

Sangeetha 01-16-2019 04:21 AM

Kaira walked into the..
HUH?

She checked her timetable to see if she was in the wrong place. This was nice - the classroom was beautifully charmed to look like outdoors. She wondered why.

She walked in and greeted the professor. 'Good morning Professor,' she said and found a nice spot to stand. She smiled at everyone around.

Ginevra 01-16-2019 04:34 AM

Daisy entered the classroom and noticed immediately that it had been enchanted to look more like the outdoors. "Good morning, Professor Darlington," the Hufflepuff greeted as she made her way to a vacant spot to stand.

A day like today, with its overcast dreariness, was one that one didn’t mind being in lessons. It wasn’t like they were missing out on much outside. Though as Septimus approached and entered the assigned transfiguration classroom for the latest lesson, it appeared he had another reason to be grateful for being in class. The transfigured room showed an outside far more welcoming than its natural counterpart on the other side of the castle walls.

Now this he could enjoy…even if he had to also pay attention and learn.

The fourth year stepped further into the classro---clearing, making his way closer to the blackboard and the woman standing nearby. “Good morning Professor,” he greeted her politely as he took a spot to await the start of the class.

The dreary morning wasn’t going to stop Stasya from going about her usual habits. Namely, it wasn’t going to keep her from going out to the barns on her first free moment, which were few and far between in the newly-of-age blonde’s eyes, but first there was the Transfiguration lesson. She had a much better grasp on the subject after the previous couple of terms and Team Animagus, although she was fairly certain not many people outside of the little Gryffindor “study group” knew the results. It wasn’t any higher on her list of favorite subjects than it had been before, but she respected it. She respected the professor, too.

Walking into the classroom, uniform nearly as pristine as it had needed to be to survive the previous term, she barely reacted to the sudden sunlight and magically-created clearing. Aside from a completely silent thought that it would have been nice to just stretch out on her back in the grass to watch clouds pass by, and the now-usual disappointment she couldn’t have let her familiars experience it. She knew she’d never overtly break the rules that barred Dobby from coming inside the castle, considering she visited the barns every chance she got anyhow. But the disappointment was still there.

She’d still given the professor a smile as she’d greeted her. “Good morning Professor Darlington.” Now there was just the matter of deciding exactly where to stand, and she found a good spot after a moment.

It could have been pouring down raining and Rylee would have still be in a chipper mood. Things were great. Lessons were great. Life was great! She woke at her usual early morning hour, went for a run around the pathways, visited the barns and the oasis to check on her plants before returning to her dorm to shower, dress for lessons and head to breakfast.

Transfiguration was a lesson she wouldn't be late to and always got her full attention. Having been doing some advanced reading in the subject since last term she was ready for whatever they would be taught today.

Entering the classroom to be greeted with lovely large clearing and a clear blue sky simply made her wonderful mood soar even higher! "Good morning, Professor Darlington," she greeted the women with the warmest of smiles. Fixing the strap of her bag over her shoulder she walked towards the center of the clearing, closer to the blackboard and professor to wait for the start of lesson, bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet.

It wasn't ever a surprise to see a classroom that wasn't a classroom. Hanna had come to expect it. But it was always a nice change, especially when it was something like a blue, cloudless sky contrasting the dreary grey sky currently outside.

"Hello Professor," Hanna said as she entered, a smile spreading across her face as she took in the scenery. Owing to the no chairs around, she decoded to stand. Plus, it was almost a hesitation at this point, even though they were a month in. Old habits.

Standing by Jun-bug!

Farah's cloak was secure around her as she headed to class this mid October morning. It was dreary outside to say the least. The good thing about dreary weather though, was that her curls seemed to bounce a little more than usual. And that was A-okay with her.

Farah headed for the Trasnfiguration classroom. She stepped inside but her feet hit grass. For a split second she thought she took a wrong turn and had somehow made it to the grounds but upon lifting her head, she realized that nope. This was the right classroom.

It didnt surprise her however. How many times had she stepped into a classroom and had been transported to a whole different world? It was one of the charms of Hogwarts. Looking around, she saw many of her friends but one of her best friends was already here. Juni aka Jun-bug. Farah made her way over to her, pulling the hood from her cloak from her head. She nudged her friend with a smile before adjusting her bag. "Hey."

Then she looked at the professor and the portable blackboard. With all the magic, you think they would upgrade to something other than blackboards. Oh well. Let's get this class started. "'Morning Professor."

The moment he stepped foot into the 'classroom', Maxton was rolling his eyes. It was his seventh and final year so he was more than used to the professor's and their weird habit of transforming classrooms but come on. He just wanted a normal class where they got to sit at normal desks and read from normal textbooks.

Was that too much to ask???

With a small huff of irritation, the Slytherin adjusted his rucksack and slouched on over to where everyone else seemed to be gathering and gave the Professor his usual greeting. A nod.

At least it wasn't dark and muddy like that one Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson had been.

Jackson had an extra shirt on under his robes but he was still feeling the chill today. With a bit of a shiver he entered into the… well what was previously a classroom. Jackson was used to the mystery of Hogwarts and magic in general, but some things still surprised him he had to admit. Like this for example. Add things to the room, sure. Clear things out, sure. But strip it of its walls and making it into an outside? Well… At least it was a nice outside and not some kind of blizzard. “Good morning Professor Darlington,” he greeted as he walked in. He was glad to see he was not the only one a bit shocked by the uh… feng shui here.

WhittyBitty 01-16-2019 06:16 PM

Entering the classroom... Madison found herself standing outside. Well, it wasn’t REALLY outside, but it was close enough and at least the sky was pretty and blue. Unlike the grey skies that they were actually experiencing today.

”Morning, Professor,” she said cheerfully as she made her way over to stand by Hanna ”Hey.” Madison smiled at her friend as she wondered what they would be learning about today.

Maxton Carden made his way into-- HA JUST KIDDING. Zoryn Spinnet was many things, but she wasn't a prank repeater.

Unlike their Professors, who had a bad habit of repeating the same classroom tricks. Zor was all for fun, but like this whole 'not really a classroom' thing was starting to get old. Might as well actually have a class on the grounds, right? Why bother with all the spell work? Geez. Think smarter, not harder, people!!

Walking inside, she gave her Professor a nod before going to stand next to Juni. "Seventh year-itus is kickin in real bad."

Bazinga 01-16-2019 07:40 PM

Transfiguration was hard, or it had been the past two terms. This year though Chloe was determined to do better. She was going to keep working hard like she had last term. She had improved and she was going to be a top student this year no matter what it took. She wanted to start proving herself more and more.

Walking into the classroom her green eyes looked around and an ooooh escaped her lips. "It's so nice in here. It makes me want to grab my broom and enjoy the nice day." Knowing it really wasn't that nice outside she was going to enjoy whatever nice weather, real or fake, that she could get.

"Hello Professor, I hope you are doing well."

Looking around Chloe smiled at a few people, especially her house people before finding a place to stand with the rest of the group that had started to form in the fake outside.

Govoni 01-16-2019 07:42 PM

Transfiguration?!

NOW...you were talking!

Aaron was practically buoyant as he drifted into the classroom designated for one of his favorite subjects. Despite the depressing weather... Nothing could diminish his excitement. Of course, Hogwarts was Hogwarts and... actually, the weather wasn't that bad on the other side?

He was confused at first, stepping into sunshine, when he'd just made a break for it across a frigid courtyard. Going from cold to hot was disorienting, but he wasn't mad at it. It was a nice break from the norm of Scottish weather.

"Hello, party people! Professor Darlington!... You gotta teach me this." If he sounded in awe, that was probably accurate.

Lottiepot 01-16-2019 08:18 PM

Why was it that every time Caolan walked into a lesson the classroom was never an ordinary classroom? What happened to desks and pens and a notepad and a whiteboard at the front? Not that he was really complaining. No desks meant that a big proportion of the lesson would be practical and Caolan was all about that. He had never been big on the lessons where the teachers talked and the students just listened, he way preferred active learning and Hogwarts seemed to be all about that.

He should’ve been used to it by now but he was still a little surprised as he headed in to the classroom to end up out in the open. He felt the sun beam down on his face and despite it being October it didn’t feel that cold anymore. “Morning professor” he greeted the lady as he walked over to join the crowd that had already gathered.

Transfiguration wasn’t his best subject but it was something he considered useful so he had decided that morning that he was going to make an effort today.
