She said she was going to visit Dumbledore, but she was up by the RoR. Harry mentioned that he thought it was odd because his office was on the other side of the castle. I think she also tugged on her sleeve in this scene, which was supposed to make us all think that she was a Death Eater. | |

“His office isn’t here,” said Harry, "it’s round the other side of the castle, behind the gargoyle—"
“I know,” said Tonks. “He’s not there. Apparently he’s gone away again.”
“Has he?” said Harry, putting his bruised foot gingerly back on the floor. “Hey—you don’t know where he has gone, I suppose?”
“No,” said Tonks.
“What did you want to see him about?”
“Nothing in particular,” said Tonks, picking, apparently unconsciously, at the sleeve of her robe. “I just thought he might know what’s going on….I’ve heard rumors…people getting hurt…”
“Yeah I know, it’s all been in the papers,” said Harry. “That little kid trying to kill his—"
“The Prophet’s often behind the times,” said Tonks, who didn’t seem to be listening to him. “You haven’t had any letters from anyone in the Order recently?”
“No one from the Order writes to me anymore,” said Harry, ”not since Sirius—"
He saw that her eyes filled with tears.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered awkwardly. “I mean…I miss him, as well…”
“What?” said Tonks blankly, as though she had not heard him. “Well…I’ll see you around Harry…”
And she turned abruptly and walked back down the corridor leaving Harry to stare at her. | Okay what I've found odd is the line "walking toward him as though she frequently strolled up this corridor." It sounds like the whole Narcissa theory, coming to check on Draco and she had done it so often...Or she had done it so often to seek comfort from Dumbledore, for I think it was difficult for her to find it anywhere else.
And why couldn't Tonks send her Patronus to Dumbledore ahead of time, to tell him of her arrival and then wait for a response? It's like what the chapter later on says by Hermione, "But I still don't know why she'd be bursting into the castle to see Dumbledore, if that's why she was here..."
And then the tug at her sleeve is really weird and so randomly put into the scheme of things...
But, then it kinda goes into some foreshadowing with Remus, that she gets teary-eyed when Harry says he hasn't heard anything from the Order because clearly she hasn't either, well not from anyone specifically. It's like a little sign of hope that she has.
Then when Tonks mentions, "The Prophet's often behind the times," late on Pg. 473 you find out that the Montgomery sister's brother had been attacked by a werewolf and died, perhaps that is what Tonks wanted to discuss with Dumbledore because it was only rumoured that it was Fenrir Greyback.
It really seems like poor Tonks has been secluded much from the Order, and she's the last to get any information. She clearly yearns for information about Lupin, but I think he's probably avoided giving information to the Order as well, hoping it doesn't come to Tonks, just adding more worry.
I don't know, I think they're love is genuine, but that's still no explanation that she would detour to the direction of the RoR, when she just turned around and continued down the corridor.

I don't know WHAT she was doing up there, but it seems to me that JK told us in an interview afterwards that she was using Tonks as a red herring.. meaning... she wanted us to suspect Tonks of something to take our attention off what JK was really up to. And it worked. And I HOPE that's all there is to that scene . | |

^^ Yea I agree with that so strongly! I would say that whole scene was really odd. Alot of the text in there to me would suggest that the Tonks/Cissy theory is one to hold there and think about! | |

I hope that that's just it. That Tonks was only used as a red herring to keep us from thinking something other than Sirius was up. I really didn't see it coming...but hmm...I'm really starting to be in disbelief about the whole Cissy/Tonks thing and call it denial, but I just really don't want to believe that. I would rather think that her aunties wanted her to do something, but it was her all along, nothing more... There's just so much mystery surrounding this character!!! | |

I really hope that's all it is.

That is an interesting scene...I mean the says 'adults' and that kind of throws things off. I really don't think it means anything, except official Order business...I mean things did get a bit more quieter, as it got further into the book. Plus, they could've been talking about what happened with Arthur...
It would have been nice if there was a bit more description in that one little scene... | |

| I totally agree with you! I hope they keep in all her fun scenes like when she helps Harry pack, and when she trips over the umbrella stand, and of course any scene where she's with Lupin  . I just worry that they have to cut down this huge book into only 2 1/2 hours or so and that they'll choose to edit out a lot of her scenes to save time  Quote: |
