Okay, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is out. This is your chance to talk about everything that has happened to our elves - from Dobby to Kreacher to the big fight in the end.

I love how Kreacher finally decides to warm up to Harry and the others after they gave him the fake locket.

I really loved the Kreacher's Tale Chapter. I knew there had to have been more to him than everyone thought and it turns out there was A LOT more. I really do adore him now. And in the end when they came running out of the kitchens to help. It was AWESOME! The whole one more for good luck thing made me laugh hardcore.

Dobby's untimely death really hurt me. I was like Omg...

I can't believe that Dobby is dead. That was really upsetting. I am glad that Kreacher warmed up to Harry, but Harry also warmed up to him. I think he finally realized how to treat Kreacher kindly, so that made the difference. OK, I'll add more later.

Dobby dying broke my heart, I love that little gu so muich He died saving Harry, which goes to show what kind of Elf he was, sacraficing himself for the better good. I'll always remember him as the Elf who loved socks though. I think it was awesome of Harry to bury him at the cottage, I think Dobby would have wanted it that way.

I was so thrilled when I found out Winky helped in the fight, I'm so proud of her, it showed she did care and wanted change. And she's off the Butterbeer now, which is fantastic. The final battle with the Elfs showed they weren't going to take anymore of his shanigans, they've had enough and want freedom, even though technically they were free, they wanted to fight for the safety of everyone.

I was so proud of Kreacher too, he began to feel loved and show love back I think that's all he wanted, was love and when he got it he went out of his way to prove he was good. I know he hated Sirius, but I think in a way loved him too, he was his master.

So which part do y'all think was more touching: Dobby dying or Kreacher reforming?

Well, I always knew that there was good in Kreacher and I am just happy that he finally came around. But I think that Dobby dying came as more of a shock to me, and therefore was more touching. I was really upset when he died because I loved that house elf - he was always sacrificing himself for Harry and I am just happy that he at least got a proper grave.

gosh Caitlin, I would have to say Dobby dying effected me more than Kreacher's reforming. Although that was wonderful. It is just that Dobby was our first real glimpse of what a house elf was and he was so endearing you just wanted to huggle him all day.

I felt like I lost a dear friend when he died. He was so brave and so selfish that he humbled me greatly. I will miss him beyond words.

I can so agree with y'all there ... but when Kreacher reformed, and when Yaxely made it into #12, Grimmuald place ... poor Kreacher was there, probably with dinner, anxious for them to get home. Do you think he survived okay, after everything? Do you think he stayed Harry's house elf?

I think Caitlin, that it is evidenced in the Battle of Hogwarts that Kreacher was still Harry's house elf. He did help lead the elves out the kitchens to help attack the DEs, didn't he? That shows us where his loyalties lie...

Besides, Yaxley might not even have been able to go into Grimmauld Place. No one really knows.

But, yeah. I think Kreacher stayed Harry's elf. Although I think Harry would have given him a choice.

I think Kreacher was fine during the Yaxley event. I bet he was very suprised, but all he had to do was get outta there. With they way Harry was treating him and the fact that he was left to Harry, Kreacher was loyal to him.

Do you ever think there will be another house elf like Dobby? Do you think, after the novel, a house elf revolution could've begun?

:hmmm: It's possible. And if it did there would have been many a Hogwart's student there to them up I would think, don't you?

Well, it's possible anything is. I think the House Elfs realized what it was like to be free and lived through Dobby, not quite ready to be free themselves yet. I think a House elf revolution would happen, slowly at first you know small things but yeah it would happen. They understand that Hermione was only helping and realized it could be possible.

I also believe that now that the wizarding world is privy to the kind of power house eleve possess that they will be much respected and looked upon as a society that has much to say in the years to come.

So far in the books and the movies , I heard of only 3 house elves..
Dobby, Kreacher, and Winky.. By the way how is she doing since what
happened to Dobby in DH.

All I have to say is once, I got to the part where Dobby died, I was ready to put the book down and not go back to it. I mean, I admire how he died a hero - but still, was it really necessary?! He was such a great, entertaining character. It was heartbreaking to lose him.

As for Kreacher, I think I was in shock when I began to read that he really did have a soft side. That was very heartwarming, a very nice touch indeed! It made me want to scoop the little guy up and give him a big hug!

I would have loved to hear about more house elves in the book. It would have been great to see the house elves come together in the final battle and help save Hogwarts. Who knows... maybe one day there will be another book and we will meet more elves. Man I hope so!

I think it's very likely that they'll include Kreacher in HBP and/ or DH...They left Dobby out of GoF and OoTP, I guess because they found including him unnecessary. (Gits.) If you want to look at it from that angle, it was equally unnecessary to have Kreacher appear in OoTP, and least it the scenes they had him in. I think they wanted to introduce him because they intend to include him later....

No I do not think there will ever be another house elf like Dobby. Just as every single witch/wizard is unique, then so are the house elves. They each have their unique traits that make them special. Dobby was different from the rest; he wanted freedom. The house elves all laughed at him for it, but we praised him. There's one in every bunch, and in this case, it was Dobby.



Yes, I agree with you that Kreach may have been unnecessary to appear in OotP - since they couldn't even put Dobby in. But at the same time, Jo has a say in what goes on the movies... and this is how she wanted it. She has said the house elves are important later in the movies, and now we know why. So expect more shots of them in HBP & DH!!

I just reread the part where Dobby dies I love the words that Jo uses. "Trotting into the living room" Can't you just see his elf ears flapping as he trots? To think, one of the things he was doing just moments before he was killed was "trotting".

I did have to stop and cry when I read that Dobby had died. I think that was like the hardest death for me I loved Dobby! I do love how he died saving the trio. It shows that house elves could show love and loyalty without being bound by that magic.

Kreatcher's reformation was great. I loved it! It was a brilliant twist and I totally didn't see it coming. I love that it happened too. I mean I knew Harry was going to go back and live in the Black house and it was nice to know that he had a friendly elf to go home to.

I love that the elves took a stand in the book. it didn't matter to me if they had chosen to stand with Voldemort. I just like the idea of them freely choosing their own paths that didn't have to be given to them.

I love the bit at the end where the house elves all fight for their rights!

My favorite part of the house elves in this book was when Kretcher broke down retelling the story of how Regulus got the locket from Voldemort. Not that I wanted to see him in pain, but it was just good to see a house elf feeling you know. Sometimes in the books the elves were just a means to an end you know. It was nice to see them acting as independent creatures with free will.
