Earlier in our old thread, we'd discussed whether or not we believed House Elves can fall in love. That sparks this fun-to-answer question:

If House Elves can fall in love, which can you see marrying and why?

Strange as it may sound, but I think that Winky and Kreacher would get along wonderfully. They are both very emotional and a bit…off. Yes, Kreacher is much older than Winky, but I don’t really think the age difference would play a big role. I just think the strangeness and loneliness of the two would bring them together.

Hm, I don't know. Winky is ay too emotional right now to think about anything like that. But if anything were to happen I think Dobby would fall for a house elf we don't know about. I can see him being a jumpy and nervous as they go out on dates and cuddle.

If Winky were to fall in love, it wouldn't be with any of the House Elves we know about, it would be with one of the kitchen elves. Why because I think one of them likes her but won't say anything because of the way she is right now.

Kreacher is too mean to fall in love, I don't think he has any love left in him actually, he's been alone way too long in that house to think about it.

Bwhaha. I could never see Kreacher and Winky. Never, lol.

If I could possibly see any two House Elves in love, it would be Dobby and the House Elf I just made up - Sadie. Sadie loves socks as much as Dobby, so they're perfect for each other!

Haha. Kreacher and Winky? I agree, never happen. Kreacher is just too... well, on second thought, does it have to be two house elves falling in love?

I could possible see Voldie and Kreacher together - oh yes, that would be perfect. No love left within either of them, so they won't be offended!! LOL

I think they do since.... if they don't where do babies HE come from. I just think of the HE we know that any of them will be romanicly involved.

Winky is not to be paried with every HE know in existance.... maybe they will introduce some more females and then we'll talk....

Hmm, I don't see it as a question of IF they can fall in love... because I do believe they can, to me it's more of a question of how do house elves meet one another if they are stuck serving households, unless families arrange their house elves to meet so they can unite their elves and their families? I'm really not sure how it all works but it's been something I've always been curious about.

As for the house elves who we want to get together...sadly we don't know about a lot of them. I'd love for Winky to be able to find a way to once and for all to cheer Winky up and for Winky to realize that Dobby is her knight in shining armor for rescuing her and making her life so much better. I'd love to see them fall in love and have little house elves of their own. Ahhh...what a beautiful story that would make indeed!

I think that Kreacher will be alone for the rest of his life. He doesn't really get along with the othes and he's just a grumpy old elf!

Winky is way to emotional at the momen, so most of the HEs are probably trying to avoid her. (Notice I said 'most'!) But, I'm sure one of them likes her.

Hmm ... Dobby. I can sorta see him with the non-emotional Winky. But, I'm sure he likes a different HE. Probably one we've never hard of yet or hasn't been mentioned in the Hogwarts kitchen.

My house elf, Stormy is maddly in love with my friend's house elf Poppy. He always wants to go over to see her. So yes, i believe that house elves can love. I think they should be allowed to marry as well. Heck, they should be miserable like the rest of us who are married. J/K

I honestly don't think that I could ever see Winky and Kreacher. I might be able to see Winky (when she's not an emotional wreck) with Dobby. Kreacher, well he can stay where he is. I really can't picture him with anyone.

House Elves love. They love to clean, love to cook, love to serve, love to help, love to everything!

Hehe. Okay if a house elf can love, Winky and Dobby most definitely. Dobby cares for Winky and she really is his friend, whether she's aware of it or not! This will lead to something

As for Kreacher? Well he'll be a lonely house elf and finally be impaled on that tapestry *shudders*

Hey!! Well, if you're going to go that route, then perhaps they shouldn't fall in love and remain single and lonely like those of us who are single. :p

I think Kreacher will fall in love, but we have not met many female house elves yet, so it's difficult to say. However, when the right one shows up, he could very easily change for her.... perhaps I'm just a hopeless dreamer in soulmates and all that stuff, but I do believe that there is someone out there for everyone - it's just a matter of finding that special someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with. This goes for all creatures here, including house elves.

Along the lines of love...Do you think that House Elves ever fall in love with their owners? I wonder what would happen if a witch or wizard and a house elf fell in love with each other. You can't control who you fall in love with. Any ideas?

That idea blows my mind! Although I do believe that house elves do love their witches and wizards but not neccessarily in a romantic way. It's obvious that Dobby adores Harry and considers himself to be Harry's elf even though he is free.

^ Dobby does adore Dobby almost as much as Ginny does , but I really don't think we'll see any house elf lovin' in HBP, but maybe someday Jo will write another one of those little books (like the monster one and quidditch one) and she'll show us some house elf lovin'.

I didn't realize that Dobby liked Dobby... or that Ginny adores Dobby, I always thought that Ginny had her eyes on Harry, but that would explain some things if it's not true... lol

I know that HEs have must fall in love but I cant really say which would really be couples since there arent too many main ones in the book...

Yes... I think that that Wizards and HEs could love each other .. and they should love each other. However, I do not think they could love each other in the romantic sort of way that you're probably thinking of when you hear the word love.

Love is an interesting word... you can love your friends, but that doesn't mean you want to be in a relationship with them. Love could just be an endearing term where you feel a sense of connection and kinship towards someone. You care about somebody and would do anything for them. In this respect, yes most house elves do love wizards because they love to serve them and love to treat them well. They just love wizards. And how could wizards not love house elves that make their work ten times easier?

Yeah I guess all HEs and Wizards must have some form of non-romatic Love for one another because otherwise I dont think the system would work at all. If the HEs didnt love us they wouldnt help us and if we didnt love them we wouldnt want to cohabitat with them...

... well, i have a lot of friends that are philosophy majors, so i guess it picks up on you after awhile...

and yes, you summed up my big long spiel perfectly! why allow someone to live in your house if you didn't care about them at all? Even the malfoy's had some love for Dobby, because he did things for them. Sure that he didn't feel it back, but isn't that the game of love?

Yes But I think Somewhere in there Dobby did love them a Little.. VERY VERY LITTLE but there had to be some because its hard to live with someone for that long and not love them... Like my Roommate
