i can't really find that sentence!! does anyone know if it's in the canadian version, or the one you buy in Canada, printed by Raincoast Books in Vancouver? (i know it's a little off topic, but i was wondering if i accidentally skipped it.)
I think it means that if Draco actually killed, Draco would already be kind of dead to his soul.

Thats rate weird. Isnt it saying that Draco is dead?
I think it must be accidental or something like that becasue it doesnt make sense at all. If Draco was really dead than it would have been included in the UK version becasue surly that would have been important.
But it doesnt make sense from the the rest of the book becasue it doesnt mention anything about that.
Hmmm.
It cant be anything important.

That is strange, i wonder why? i also think it is unfair too even though i read the American version, it seems wrong only putting it only in that verision.

"He cannot kill you if you are already dead." You've already sacrificed part of yourself by doing the act. Being a DE and killing is as good as being dead you might say. Your soul will never be complete again.
i realllly like that theory!
and yeah thats really weird!
i just checked my books again [i have both versions because i went to the release of that book in london ] and thats strange..
i never noticed that before..
OH maybe it was also accidental..
like maybe Jo wrote it and then decided she didnt like it?

Ooh...MYSTERY! I think that is a very interesting choice of words, and most definitely not accidental. I think Rowling is showing us the power the Order of the Phoenix holds among its members. The fact that the Order can hide someone so well that the enemy thinks that person is dead is a very powerful tool to have in one's arsenal. Especially if the person you're trying to fool is Voldemort, purported to be the most powerful dark wizard ever. Does this mean Dumbledore really is more powerful than Voldemort? Or is this just wishful thinking?

I have 2 theories on this, one is that the good side can make it look like they killed Draco so he would be safely hidden with them from Voldemort, these were my first thoughts when I read that line but I don't think it's right.
2,Mabe Dumbledore meant that you're already dead to the death eaters cause he knew he did not have hatred enough to have what it takes to kill and Dumbledore was Voldemort would probably kill him cause he finds him useless and coming to the good side Dumbledore felt would prolong Draco's life. This theory is more likely.

I think it means that Draco is dying everyday from the fear , he got alot to do and killing Dumbeldore is not easy , you know in the book ( hbp) ko keeps descriping Draco ( pale and white .. ) maybe to show as how tired and frightened from the mission he got to do .

I took this to mean that Dumbledore would have the Order put Draco into hiding, and make it look as if Draco is dead. However, some people have some other interesting theories: I like the one about killing people ripping part of your soul. This has some merit, as, if Draco kills Dumbledore, he will, in effect, be ripping his own soul. This would then make him half a person, according to the laws of the soul, and he would already be partially dead.

My copy of the book has that sentence. It never confused me. He meant that he could pretend as if Draco was killed and then have him hidden.

Well what does that mean? Does it mean that they could fake his death and then he could go into hiding?

I never thought about the fact that killing can rupture your soul, so technically he would be dead. I always took it in the literal sense to mean that Dumbledore and the Order would feign Draco and his family's death.
