Default Harry's Attitude
T l Guitar ♥ l l Bed Police l S

What do you think of Harry's attitude and the way he acted in this book. Do you think he was out of control, or more restrained? Was he rash or was he mature and controlled. What do you think?

I think he was far more self-confident and mature in this book, especially compared to the last book. I think that Sirius' death really sobered him, and showed him that you can't always act first and think later. He was far more controlled and thought about things before he did them, and really importantly, before he said them. That is demonstrated probably the best when with Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic. You even see him fighting to control himself when he found out about Snape and the prophecy in Dumbledore's office. The Harry of the past would not have done that.

And his self-confidence I thought was really noticeable. Not that he showed off or strutted around like Malfoy has in the past, he really actually went the other way, becoming more reserved. But he was just so much more confident. This first we really see of this is when they meet Draco at Madam Malkins. It is also displayed well with the Minister again. But all the way through the books he never gave up on his instincts. He just continued to believe in himself and his theories.

So yeah, I think that Harry was much more sober, controlled and mature in this book.

I agree. I noticed his yelling at Dumbledore actually crossed a line, but it was because of Snape. If only Dumbledore had thought to listen to Harry's instincts, and the fact that Snape couldn't be bothered to continue the Occulemency. *shakes head*

He handled many things better than most 16 year olds would. I'm proud of him.

I really loved Harry in this book. You're right, Sirius' death did make him realise that he can't keep rashly running into things.

I loved the way he handled the Minister at the end. His new confidence probably came with the new found love and hope people had for him. And the trust and confidence Dumbledore put in him. I loved that, the way he sort of said casual things to his headmaster before stopping himself.

He was almost boring in the first few books, just angry and irritating in OotP but here he really shined.

I think that he was very controled and learned that he can be less of an attack dog and still do what he wants. I was surprised that Sirius wasnt in the book more. i thought that Harry was going to be like mean but again.... JK surprised me. I also agree with some of you above when i say that Sirius' death kind of settled Harry. He lost something but llife must go on. and also i think he got along way better with everyone(except for snape). and malfoy was less annoying towards him. well except for the train accident. that shocked me. i didnt think he would get caught. but knwoing harry, he felt he had to be in there.

Harry was pretty controled and mature in this book. JKR did a good job making him grow up a little more in each book. But the only thing that got on my nerves was that he was really overly obsessed about malfoy. It just really got on my nerves. It was like every 5 seconds, he had to know wht malfoy was up too.

I think he was very grown up in this book. Much improved since the last bk. I think now he realizes he can't escape his responsibility/destiny even if it means keeping everyone he loves away(Ginny) so they can be safe. I just wished he could've kept something that make him happy(Ginny, letters from Sirius, presence of Dumbledore..etc)

Thank GOD Harry was no longer an angsty baby. ARGH!! I hated him like that. Sirius's death gave him a grip. He knew Sirius would hate for him to greive and whine and throw tantrums any more.

He's more mature. More self-controlled. He's stronger and wiser. Even for a 16 year old. He's standing his ground and taking control of himself and I love him so much for that. I myself think I would have kept to hiding and maybe yelling at people, refusing to talk.

And yes, he did control himself with the Minister and Draco. He didn't really get himself into any fights. His Detentions with Snape went well.

I'm proud of him. I think I like him again ^.^

He most definetly kept his head more in this book. However his little obsession with Draco worried me. I loved his attitude with Ginny and Dean, (the big montser in his stomach) and when he went out with Ginny, I was so happy!

Yep, I agree...Harry was much better in this book. He matured a lot and most of that was due to what happened to him in his fifth year, especially with loosing Sirius. He realized that it was time to start acting like an adult; that too much depended on him for him to continue acting like a child. This turn around also showed a lot about Harry's character.

And I'll admit the Malfoy obsession was a bit weird, but it turned out he was completly right.

I agree. Harry is more reserved in this book. He seems to have changed a lot in just one year. His little outburst in Dumbledore's office in OotP was so brattish! But has anyone else noticed, in HBP Dumbledore seemed to be losing his patience a little more with Harry than in previous books?? Before, he always had that understanding smile when Harry acts like a baby, yelling and stuff, or asks his gazillion questions. Now, he might not sound mad, but his answers always seemed final. I dont know, I just felt that there was no room for 'attitudes' anymore.

I liked this Harry A LOT more than in OotP. When he used to have his little tantrums, like everyone seems to be against him, everyone's hiding stuff from him, people won't include him in things, it was like OMG Get over it! I actually wanted to slap him around several times in that book, but in HBP, he's calmer and overall just nicer...

Of course, in this installment, Harry wasn't as such a hot head as he was in OoP. (You didn't see him yelling at people in Caps Lock.) However he did make some comments to certain people that you'd expect them to strike him across the face the second he finished the sentence. However, they didn't because he was mature and braver than he ever was. And I like him that way.

He definetly restrained himself better than in #5. He was more serious, confident, and independent of Ron and Hermione. I excpect he will become moreso in #7. And he does have to save the world so...

I think he may have overeacted at certain points, but he's largely improved since the last book. i can't say i wouldn't have acted the same way in that situation

That isn't the reason. He's not returning becuase he, Ron, and Hermione are going to focus their strength on destroying those last THREE Horcruxes. Yes, 3. I'm sure people already have said that though.

I was expecting him to be only a little less angree than in OOTP, but he was so more self controlled and didn't lose his temper as much as I expected him to.

But I was shocked at the end that he said he didn't want to return to Hogwarts for his last year. But maybe he will as we got told the 7 books would take him through 7 years at Hogwarts. Maybe he'll realise that he needs to know more magic to be able to kill Voldemort. Hmmm.

I loved Harry's attitude in this book- he has definitely matured and no longer do we have him so angsty like the previous book, that really got on my nerves.
His attitude towards Sirius's death was good too, at the start he showed signs of mourning but I'm glad he didn't spend the entire book upset over Sirius. He found a way to be positive, and I liked that.
When it came to his "talk" with the Minister for Magic at the end, I completely loved that. It shows so much confidence and the kind of hero we all feel Harry is- the more likable side of Harry came out in this book.
When he broke up with Ginny- I didn't expect that to happen, and he mentioned they could have had months or years, but up until the start of 6th year did he have feelings for Ginny, so I don't know where that came from.
All in all, I was very impressed with Harry's attitude in the book, apart from his obsession with Draco, he was constantly thinking about him- a little weird if you ask me.

Obviously Snape would refuse to continue Occlumency! Harry had just seen one of his most horrible memories! Probably the one he himself cannot bring to himself to remember!

Harry is a lot more mature in this book. In the last one *shudders* He was a brat.

I liked the 'new Harry' instead of the one we saw in OotP...That one irritated me. He did not say anything to anybody about what he expected or felt - but in this one he openly suspected Draco and Snape.

He told Dumbledore about the conversation he heard Draco and Snape had - which he wouldn't have done in OotP.

He consulted Dumbledore instead of just discusing it with his friends.

Much more mature and also much more aware of how things were. Sirius' death has to be one of the reasons...

mmmm how did he get over that so fast..

He has defenatly grown up more than Rona nd Hermione but still people dont listen to him... He told Dumbledore malfoy was up to something and he wouldnt listen!

Well maybe Dumbledore did do something... We don't know. He knew what Malfoy was probably up too...that was clear from the conversation they had in the end...before Dumbledore was killed...

And yeah he seemed more mature than Hermione and Ron...

It was only mentioned that he did not wish to talk about Sirius. Maybe he hasn't 100% realised he is indeed dead...maybe there'll be something about that in the 7th...
