He's called the Half-Blood prince because he was a half blood, and his mothers maiden name was Prince. We've seen glimpses that his father was abusive, so it is most likely he was closer to his mum, and therefore more proud to call himself a Prince then a Snape. Somewhat like voldemort huh...
