Sixth Year Department of Mysteries | Did you like the duel between Harry and Voldemort?
Hello,
I have a question here:
Did you like the way Voldemort died in the final battle beween him and Harry??
I think that Harry could do more than that in killing him!!!
What is your opinion???

A little disappointing. Even after all that had happened, Harry tried to disarm him? Still, she wrote it perfectly, and I thought it was amazing. Can't wait how they make that the ultimate cheese-fest in the movie.

I love how Harry sort of explained everything (at least he went over the horcruxes breifly) and so proved to the crowd that he wasn't just running away, he had tried to sacrfice himself. I just wish that the ending hadn't been so abrupt with them going into the Headmaster's office (though that has nothing to do with the battle) I wanted to see Harry reunited with everyone.

I really expected that Voldie was going to win, especially with all the rumors and hype I had heard prior to the book being released, so the ending kind of surprised me. Like, it was totally unexpected! But I must say, I kind of liked it, one of the few things in that book that I did like. It seemed kind of fitting in a way, given the fact that Harry had taught the DA members Expelliarmus in OOTP and placed such importance on it that this should be the spell that would end it all. Also, the whole part about the elder wand choosing Harry for its master and all that, that was kinda interesting.

I thought it was rather weak. I mean Voldie was the greatest dark wizard of all time and he was thwarted by the disarming spell! Come on! I mean I would have rather read something else than that. I dunno maybe that is just me tho.

I rather liked it, as much as it could have been the ultimate anti-climax, I thought it all came together nicely, that and seen as I spent the last 1/4 of the book sobbing, I really couldn't have taken any more emotional turmoil!

It could stand to lose some of the:
"You dare?"
"Yes I dare!" 's
But other than that I liked how Harry explained exactly how Voldemort had gone wrong

I felt that it was a little bit of a dissapointment. I wish there was more of a duel-ala Mrs Weasley and Bellatrix. But it was good, when I re-read it. I guess I was just looking for something totally action-packed and was let down when it was just a disarming spell.(And what is with that?? HArry needs some new stuff! Maybe he needs one last year at Hogwarts if he can't think of any better spell than that.)

It was really helpful. By the end of the book I was confused so it sort of explained a lot,and they paced like tigers! Very good but I think Harry should have fainted, very dramatic!lol

I really liked it.
It was great to see Harry channelling a little of Dumbledore, in calling him Tom Riddle.
I wasn't expecting a big duel; I thought it would be just talking. =]
But when Harry said 'Expelliarmus!', I actually hit myself on the head in exasperation!
Very fitting, though.

Yeah I thought the duel with Bellatrix and Molly was better than Harry and Voldie's and that was the main duel of the book! I don't know I was just expecting to see like a Lord of the Rings kinda battle or something and it just fizzled for me.

I don't know, I really liked it. I'm glad Harry used Expelliarmus. What else would he use, Avada Kedavra? Come on. Harry isn't that kind of person. It's not like he needed to. And I liked the talking because that's the only way Harry could make Voldy upset. Like, physical pain wouldn't matter to him. But embaressing him by revealing Snape's love? Voldy torture. I think it was done very well by Jo. If it was a big fight shield charms would have to be cast all around them so none of the others accidentally got hit, and it could have been very messy and confusing. I thought it was great.

I loved the "final fight". Since Harry knew he was the master of the elder wand, of course expelliarmus was the best spell! Think about it, expelliarmus makes the opponent lose his/her wand, and that's the only thing Harry needs. He needs the wand. So since the wand knew Harry was the master, expelliarmus would work perfect, right? So by casting for example Avada kedavra, Harry might just have hit Voldemort's spell and it could have bounced off to someone in the crowd. But he was smart enough to think, and use Expelliarmus instead. "The wand spell" to get what he wanted, the wand. What happened with Voldemort's avada kedavra, that's something else.
I also really loved Harry pretending to be dead. So brilliant! And so exciting it was to read!! But poor Hermione and Ron, seeing him dead.. Sobbing moment... But Neville as the hero with the sword, that was just amazing. I wonder how she comes up with it all.. it's fantastic

umm...
i think they could have done a little better than that! i mean honestly. that whole thing with the expelliarmus was a little boring....but then again if you think about it was quite a good idea as it was his signature move..but then again..i thought it could have been more gruesome between them

I think it was a bit cheesy.
Whilst Harry explained where Voldie had gone wrong, they just circled around each other. If I know Voldie, he would have just killed Harry there and then.
I also thought it was a bit silly how Harry died and came back to life. That's almost as bad as if Harry died, and then woke up and realised that it was all a dream.

I was a tad dissappointed. I mean we hear what a great magician Voldy is, yet he is thwarted by Expelliarmus? Although i do think that it was well written and explained.

I think that was a better way to end it. Harry thwarted him, but without stooping to Voldemort’s level. And in turn Voldemort suffered the consequences of his own actions.

I thought it was a great way to end it too. Harry didn't have to resort to using anything illegal, just let Voldie kill himself. I will love seeing this played out on screen.

i, personally, liked the fact that it was expelliarmus. That's Harry's trademark spell, really, isn't it? And the fact that he killed without killing was good.
But (and I bet you saw that coming) there wasn't really a Duel. They didn't fight at all. Just... circled.
Don't get me wrong, circles are good, but I would have preferred some action, like the other duels.
But, I liked it, the atmosphere JK wrote was just... superb.

I thought it was a fitting end. It was extremely characteristic of both Harry and old Voldy. Harry tried disarming him, and Voldy just tried blasting Harry. And in the end, Voldy's own arrogance, believing he had already won, was what killed him. Because his own--lazily cast--spell rebounded on him. Because he had failed to thoroughly research why his wand wouldn't work on Harry's, because he was so focussed on the Deathly Hallows and what they could do, he didn't care about why they worked the way they did, or how they worked against those who used them improperly. And that was Voldy's downfall.
I loved the duel, and I thought it was absolutely a perfect ending for the era that took up so much of Harry's childhood--and life.

I loved it! The change of power was great! When Harry started calling Voldy Tom and calling him out on all his mistakes and such.
Basically it was a amazing. |

I loved it too and yeah it was a bit cheesy but all the HP books are cheesy here and there. It was great how Harry told Voldemort where he'd gone wrong, and I liked how he used Expelliarmus. It shows how the Order and the DA would rather give people a second chance than mindlessly kill like the Death Eaters, and I don't think Harry would have been emotionally and morally capable of casting the Killing Curse, even at Voldemort.
The best part was when just as Voldemort dies, the sun rises and all the people Harry loves come to celebrate with him

The whole Elder wand situation confused me the first time i read the book, so upon first reading the final duel scene i was just completely confused haha. But once i got the bit about the Elder Wand and it all made sense, i suppose i liked it.

I loved it, I don't care how cheesy it was, I don't care that this powerful wizard was defeated by little Harry Potter and his expelliarmus spell, I thought it ended the series perfectly and it went great with Harry, after all it was his trademark spell. I adored it <3
