|  Confusion over dates
Hello everybody, I'm a relative newbie so please forgive me if this has already been discussed or if I'm just being thick!
On James and Lily's headstone, their year of death is 1981, meaning that Harry would have been born in 1980, making him 17 in 1997, not 2007, which was the year the book was published. I then wondered if the epilogue was supposed to be set in 'real time' (2007), but the dates don't work for that either.
Am I missing something here? I know it isn't really important in the grand scheme of things but it really niggles me, and annoys me each time I read the book!

That's right, the books were set so that Harry graduated in 1997.
