Molly's maiden name is Prewett. That means that her brothers are the famed Gideon and Fabian Prewett who were violently killed when Voldemort’s first was powerful.
Do you think that this had an impact on why she joined the Order?

Hm, in a way yes and in a way no. I mean at the time she had no real reson to join, she was young and in love with no children (were Bill and Charlie born then ) well if so than she wanted to protect her family by any means necessary, even if it meant preparing meals for the Order and being there for moral support. At the time things were diffrent, no one was prepared for a battle like this and death was imminent, so it was naural for anyone and everyone to join the good/bad sides.

Though I think it did make an impact on her joining. She wanted to prove to herself she could do somthing like this, avenge her family in a way.

She joined because her brothers were killed & also because she wanted to help save innocent lives. But mostly she wanted to protect her family.

I believe that it might have helped her decision on the matter but I believe it was not the exact point. I believe that it was a number of things that helped Molly join the Order. I'm sure she witnessed several other family members and friends that their lives were claimed at the hand of the Dark Lord.

We also have to consider that Molly's heart is made of gold and she is one of the "good guys" in this series. She wants to do what is right and sitting back doing nothing is not part of her style.

I also believe that speaking of friends, all her friends were willing to join the Order and I'm sure that they only had to tug her arm a little to join their wonderful group. We have to remember that it was everyone for themselves if they were willing to stand up on their own and joining a group such as the Order, something that she would be interested in because it would mean protecting the ones she loves, would be the ideal thing to do.

I think that she joined to help Harry,as Alicia says protect her family and she probably wants to get revenge for her brother's death.Because in OotP she acted very motherly to Harry (as usual) but she didn't really want him to know information on Voldemort.

I’m sure their death made some difference, but overall I believe that she joined the order to protect her friends and family. She is a very brave and loving woman who would do anything to keep her friends and family save. I don’t think it would have taken much of a push to get her to join.

yes, thats why I think she joined, too. And also becuase of her brothers. When she remembers them, it probably gives her the courage to do her job as an Order member.

i think she joined the auror because she loved Arthur and she wanted to be there for him and support him, and of couse to feed all those auror members some lovely home made food!

I definitely believe that that had an impact on why she joined the Order, but I think the biggest reason was due to the fact that she put so much energy into keeping Harry safe in the past. Now with Voldemort threatening to kill blood traitor's family and friends that made all the difference in the world. She wanted to protect her loved ones at all costs!

Yes. Molly wasn't in the Order back during the First Wizarding War, mainly because she had to take care of her young children. But I think that when Ron and Ginny were older, she would have made it a priority to join the Order with Arthur and help fight Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
