fifth year
Hank had been chattering away to a first year who was too scared to get up and leave the Hufflepuff table to get away from the talkative boy. Looking up he watched as the morning posts were flown in from above, owls swooping all over the Hall to find their rightful owners.
The fifteen year old boy gave a sigh as he saw his owl circling above him just out of reach when he stood from the table.
Climbing up onto the Hufflepuff table, Hank barely managed to untie the thick envelope before a professor started towards him looking annoyed.

“Hiya!” a fellow first year greeted as Hank took his seat for the very first time at the Hufflepuff table. “My name’s Austin.” He added on with a cheerful smile.
Hank grinned back at him, “Hey, my name is Hank.” He replied back. “Were you hoping to get into Hufflepuff? I sure was, though I wouldn’t have minded Gryffindor.” Hank added on happily.
Austin shrugged his shoulders, “I’m Muggleborn. Didn’t know what Hufflepuff was until a couple hours ago.”
“I’m Pureblood, I’ve been waiting all my life to get sorted. What did you think about it? ” Hank rambled on.

Hank wiped away his tears as he looked out over the edge of the forest from the highest tower. He was shivering in the frigid December air as he celebrated his sixteenth birthday alone, like he always did. A sudden fury of anger hit him; kicking the wall with his feet several times he blamed himself for the passing of his mother. In his mind, it was his entire fault, if he hadn’t been born, she’d still be alive. Preston had no mother when he had needed one the most.
Allowing himself to slump to the stone floor, he cried.

sixth year
There was just a week left of the term before Hank could hide himself away for the Christmas holidays, coming out only for food and the restroom. He was finding it more difficult to keep going on with his school routine. He still had to study for tests professors threw together at the last moment. He had to keep going though, somehow or another. He had done it five other times, he could do it again.
It was painful though.
He just found it so difficult to keep a smile on his face during December, he hated the entire month.

“Hey mum.” Hank spoke quietly as he brushed the newly fallen snow off of the old headstone. “Sorry I haven’t come by in a while. I’ve been busy, we moved a year or so ago. The wife and I are expecting a baby in a couple of months.” He said as he traced his finger across the letters.
“I’m sorry.” He cried. “I don’t go a day without thinking about you.” He whispered, leaning forward and kissing the cold headstone before he got up and left, emotions running high; he had never been able to spend long with his mother.

“Oh alright, I was talking and wasn’t paying attention to where I put my earmuffs after we planted all the mandrakes, and the professor’s eating plant ate them.” He paused. “It was not my fault.”
“It was the eating plant’s fault then, eh?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
The headmaster chuckled; this was the third time in two years he had been “banned” from the greenhouses. He simply believed Hank didn’t care for Herbology.

fourth year
Hank was startled awake by a large owl landing on him and nipping his ear extremely hard. “I’m awake, I’m awake.” He said groggily as he shook off the owl and managed to sit up.
Looking around he realized he had fallen asleep in the owlery while writing a letter to his brother. Guessing it was around one in the morning; Hank shrugged his shoulders and lay back down on the straw covered floor, using his backpack as a pillow and closed his eyes.
“Stop that racket! I’m sleeping!” He yelled angrily at an owl who gave a loud hoot.

“Turner. Room two. Now.”
“Thank you?”
“Go.”
Upon entering the room Hank turned to look at the Healer, “I don’t think I should sit.”
The Healer ignored him as she looked at the large boils on his skin. She had learned by year two of taking care of the child constantly, not to ask questions.
One of the boils burst open letting puss ooze out. “Gross! Make it stop!” Hank yelled.
“Knock it off.” She said with a wave of her wand, cleaning the mess up.
After drinking a potion to get rid of the boils, Hank was ordered out.

fourth year
Mining at night was a bad idea in Austin’s mind as they found their way outside of the school near midnight.
Finding a nice spot near the lake Hank, stopped and dropped his tools, a small shovel, an ice cream scooper and a bowl.
“How in Merlin’s name are you going to bore a hole into the ground with an ice cream scooper?” Austin asked.
“I’m not. That’s why we have a shovel.”
“What’re we looking for?”
“You know, I’m not really sure.” Chuckled Hank, mining at night was a good idea at the time he had thought of it.

“We would have gotten farther if the sun hadn’t come up.”
“Blaming the sun?”
“Yup. It was the sun.”
“Detentions for both of you. Next time, don’t use an ice cream scooper.”

64. Nap
fifth year
Sopping wet from the torrential down pour that started as Herbology was ending; Hank trekked his way up to the school and headed for his dorm. His body was sore and he could barely keep his eyes open long enough to make sure he lifted his legs for the next step.
Changing at a decent speed, Hank stretched and took a running jump as he landed on his four-poster bed where he snuggled into his pillow and blankets and closed his eyes for a very much needed nap.
He was missing Transfiguration for his nap, but he didn’t really care.

“You’ve got to fight a troll and then swim through jell-o to get to the Sorting Hat.” Hank told a firstie on the train. He was most positive the boy had believed his story. “You look small enough; all you’ll have to do is zip around the troll and into the jell-o.” He laughed ruffling the boy’s hair.
“Has anyone died from fighting the troll?”
“No…but some have come very close.”
“Hank! Stop telling the first years a bunch of lies.” Head Boy Austin commanded. “He’s only joking. No troll, no jell-o.”
“There’s jell-o at the feast though.” Smiled Hank.

11. History of Magic
sixth year
History of Magic had been turned into art class.
Hank sat in the very back, behind a tall kid with bushy hair, with several small jars of paint and paintbrushes laid out before him and several colors of paper.
He was making his Transfiguration teacher a Valentine’s card, hoping to cheer her up so she would not give him so many detentions.
Painting away, Hank was rather proud of himself for completing a good looking card (with the help of his wand). Although, his teacher was not at all pleased, deducted points from Hufflepuff and attempted to confiscate the card.

“A Valentine’s card professor.” She stared at him blankly. “You know, the holiday that’s all pink and has that baby named Cupid flying around hitting people with arrows?” Her eyes narrowed.
“Come on professor, it’s just a nice gesture. It’s not like I had transfigured a hat or something and put pudding in it…although, that is a very good idea…”
“You will do no such thing in my class.”
“I thought this was Transfiguration class though, professor.”
She rolled her eyes and turned back to the lesson, leaving the card with its “artist”.

“Today, we’ll be changing the appearance of cloaks.” The old man pointed his wand at his cloak, said the incantation.
Seeing Austin and Hank together, the old man marched his way over to the two fourteen year old boys. “No. You work with Natasha. And you with Lydia.” He commanded, last time the two were paired together, they had set a desk on fire by mistake.
“Professor, don’t stick me with Hank!” Lydia complained as she drug her feet, hoping the man would change his mind.
“Don’t worry; I’m not so thrilled either.” Hank told her, receiving glares in exchange.

“Eeeeeewwww!” Shrieked Lydia looking down at her cloak, causing the professor to worry slightly. “It’s plaid!” She crossed her arms and gave a huff at Hank. “Change it back.” She commanded.
“Come on Lydia. It’s pink and purple, your favorite, and I even made it sparkly. Just for you. And this is how you treat me?” He asked, suddenly making everything oh so dramatic.
“It’s plaid. And it’s ugly. Even with sparkles.” She did like the sparkles, but she wasn’t going to give Hank the satisfaction.
“Your face is ugly.” Hank countered.
“Not as ugly as yours.” She growled back.

“What did you just do?” Questioned Hank, holding the side of his face with a hand.
“I think she just slapped you mate.” Austin laughed; he was surprised someone hadn’t done it sooner than fourth year.
"What did you do that for? For turning your cloak plaid, it can get fixed. I’m probably not a wise choice…but…”
“You called me ugly.” She spat, absolutely angry. She turned to the professor.
“I’m staying out of this.” He said as he turned away from the fiasco. “It’s about time he got put in his place.” He muttered.
“I HEARD THAT!” Hank hollered.

fourth year
“Lydia!” Hank called from outside the girl’s bathroom door.
“Leave her alone Turner.” A seventh year girl snapped at him sharply as she exited the bathroom.
“Come out, please.” He tried again.
“Why? So you can have another go at me?” She questioned, clearly she had been crying.
Hank banged his head lightly on the wall, why were girls so difficult? Why was Lydia so difficult?
“No!” He exclaimed.
“Just leave me alone!” She ordered.
Hank gave a huff, kicked the wall and walked away. “She can cry then. I was going to apologize for once.” He muttered to himself.

Hank wasn’t for sure why he was so upset over the fact that Lydia was ignoring him. She would speed off down the corridors when she heard his voice. She’d even take the long route to class to avoid him. All Hank wanted to know, was if she was really still angry with him over the Charms class incident.
“Well fine. I’ll just ignore her then.” Hank declared.
“Who are you talking to mate?” Austin asked looking around the dead library.
“Is this about Lydia?”
“Drop it Austin. I don’t want to talk about it.” He told his friend evenly.

“Would you stop it already and go ask her?” Austin asked for what seemed to be the millionth time that week.
Hank suddenly stopped in front of Austin’s chair. “I think I’m ready.” He smiled, completely ignoring his friend’s plea to get it over with.
Walking across the common room, Hank was on mission that had taken him an entire week to work the courage up to do.
He was getting closer and closer to Lydia…
Then he turned back around and begun to pace more.
“What now?” Austin asked, now clearly bored.
“She’s doing homework. Don’t want to interrupt.”

“That’s different.” Hank told his friend.
“Hank.” Austin said as he slammed his book shut and stepped in front of his friend, stopping him from his pacing. “You’re the obnoxious crazy one, you can do it. She’s not a boggart or anything; you’ve been friends for three years now; just ask her to the ball.”
“Or what?” Hank asked with a smirk appearing on his face.
“I’ll tell her that you’ve constantly talked about her since fourth year.”
Hank growled. “Fine.”
