Hello everyone! Pixie here once again with a new set of drabbles. This will be my fifth set of drabbles and I am very happy to be able to write them for what I find to be perhaps the most beautiful relationship from JK Rowling's world. As Rowling said herself, Lily Evans did love Severus Snape as a friend and that she might have grown to love him romantically if he had not become involved in Dark Magic and been friends with future Death Eaters at school. However, Snape's hunger for power blinded him from the truth and he drove Lily away. Still, his feelings never wavered. He always remained true.

One thing that I think made my Hogwarts Founders' drabbles so successful was that they painted a picture and were more of a narrative through drabbles instead of 100 isolated incidents that may or may not be connected. I have decided that these shall follow suit. Some stories will be based on canon, others will purely be from my imagination, but no matter which, I hope you all come to love the greatest story of love told in the Harry Potter saga.

And, as always, I do not own Snape, Lily, or anything related to Harry Potter. All that brilliance lies in the very capable hands of JK Rowling.

It had taken all of Severus Snape's will to pull himself away from the body of Lily when the Aurors had arrived. He hadn't wanted to leave like that, sneaking out the back door like some criminal, but the world had left him little choice.

After going to Dumbledore, he felt like his soul had been sold to two very different types of devils...but neither could give him his heart's true desire.

Arms resting on the edge of the silver bowl, Severus wondered what things would have been like if he were not so blind, and soon he was lost to memories.

Holding his reddened right cheek, Severus ran as quickly as his young legs could carry him through the mist as day began to turn to night. Tears rolled down his face and he stumbled a bit on the cobbled streets. He stopped suddenly when the door to one of the shops opened before him and a red haired girl stepped out.

"Gross, come on Lily," she said, turning her nose up in the air at the presence of Severus.

Severus watched in awe as girl with the fiery red hair smiled kindly at him before she was dragged away.

Lily...

"Honestly, Lily, you shouldn't have smiled at that boy. He was slimy and looked totally unwanted."

"Tuney, that is a horrible thing to say," the red head replied. "His eyes were gentle and warm."

"He was disgusting."

"Stop saying such hurtful things," Lily snapped As she did, the mirror behind Petunia cracked down the middle. Shards of mirror flew in all sorts of directions.

Both girls squeaked and jumped backwards, tripping over their own feet.

"Why is it every time you get upset something breaks? It's not natural," Petunia whispered. "Almost makes me think you are some kind of freak."

Severus couldn't believe what he had just witnessed. The signs were all there and he felt his heart skip a beat. She was like him. Special.

He leaned forward a bit more on the branch and quickly took notice of the shape of the leaves and then glanced at the row of flowers in the planter. "Asphodel, belonging to the family Asphodelaceae," he mused as he picked one. Girls liked flowers, right?

Severus looked up again, hoping to catch one more glimpse of the beautiful red haired girl, but her and her sister had gone.

He should probably head home.

Severus had been watching Lily greedily for weeks now, taking every chance he could get to sneak away from his home filled with neglect to watch the red haired enchantress play with her boring sister. Her effect on him was how he imagined grown men felt around Veela and just being in her presence was intoxicating.

He sat on the ground, pretending to read a book while Lily and her sister swung on swings.

"Lily, don't do it!" the boring older sister shrieked. Severus snarled and scowled at her obnoxious voice, but watched in awe as Lily literally defied gravity.

Severus felt his breath catch in his chest as he watched Lily float gracefully to the ground like an angel descending from heaven. His own heart seemed to have taken flight like an owl into the dark of night and he found himself moving towards her before he could even register that he was doing so.

"You're a freak," the taller girl said, slapping Lily's hand away.

"N-N-N-No she isn't!" Severus said, making his presence known.

The two girls turned to face him, both with surprised expressions on their faces.

"You must be a freak too for not thinking so."

In that moment, not even the most properly brewed Amortentia could have swayed young Severus' heart. She was special, just like him, and that brat of a sister she had couldn't see the beauty in that. She wasn't worth Lily's time. She wasn't worth his time.

"And you are just exceptionally plain," Severus responded a little too smugly.

Petunia glared at him and then at her sister before walking off in a huff, arms crossed firmly across her chest.

"Y-Y-Y-You don't think it's weird?" Lily asked, her green eyes locked on his.

"Of course not. I am just like you."

Lily didn’t know that in that moment she had met someone who would come to love her more deeply than anyone could imagine. For her, the moment that the black haired boy in front of her had said that he was like her, she was just happy to have found a friend. Someone who could understand her. Still, she was hesitant.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

Severus, not knowing what else to do, picked a dandelion from the ground and waved his hand over it. Instantly it changed into a deep pink peony which he gave her.

“We're magical.”

Laying on the grass, Severus never knew that something was capable of bringing peace to his existence. Every morning he fled from home, from the frightening hands of that man, and came to this very spot to wait for Lily. Today was no different.

“Severus, what is that?” Lily asked, pointed to some discoloration on his cheek.

“It’s nothing,” he replied, trying to cover it with his hand.

“Let me see,” she replied, taking his hand in hers and peering closer at it. “Does it hurt?”

“Not now,” he smiled. Lily was always able to transfigure his pain into happiness.

A small part of himself broke every time he saw tears trickling down Lily's face because of something her obnoxious sister had said. No matter how many times he told her that she was just being jealous because Lily was special, it never seemed to quell the red head's emotions. He was jealous in a way, of having someone who you cared so much about what they thought of you. Did she care about what he thought of her?

"S-Severus?" she squeaked, peeking out at him from behind her hands. "T-This came to me this morning...delivered by an owl..."

Severus knew what the parchment in her hand said before he took it from her. He had received the same letter the day before. His father had simply turned his nose up in at it, glaring at Severus with high expectations already swimming around in his head. Attending Hogwarts was something that was expected, not something to be celebrated.

"I'm not like you, Severus," Lily frowned. "My parents aren't wizads. Does...does it make a difference, being a muggle-born?"

"No," he said. "It doesn't make any difference."

Anyone who dared to say otherwise would have to answer to him. He would protect her. Always.

All tucked in her bed, Lily found herself unable to sleep as all the unknowns of tomorrow swam around restlessly in her head. Severus had explain Hogwarts as a place where they both could find themselves. It sounded brilliant, but she was still frightened. At least he would be with her.

Just then she heard a tap at the window and saw an owl there with a letter in its beak. Smiling, she jumped out of bed and pulled it open, eagerly reading the letter's contents.

Lily-
Starting tomorrow, let's aim for the moon. If we miss, we may hit a star.

Severus could not wait to go through the magical pillar and officially enter the world where he knew he would feel as though he belonged. His mother had fussed over him as best she could before he father had stepped in and, well, put an end to that forcefully. Now he stood on the edge of the muggle world waiting for Lily when he heard the hoot of an owl.

"Oh, Severus, isn't it wonderful?"

Severus turned to see that the hooting owl belonged to Lily. A smile crept across his pale face as he suddenly didn't feel as neglected anymore.

Severus smiled at Lily as she came to a stop with her trolley. She looked remarkably at ease considering she was about to enter a world entirely different from the one she knew. Little did he know that it was his presence that was extinguishing all fears.

"Yes," he nodded in response to her question as he reached out towards her own.

"Move it move it!" shouted a boy with wild dark hair and round glasses. The boy pushed his way between the two of them, vanishing through the barrier. Severus sneered at the faceless boy. He had made an enemy already.

Lily didn't need a telescope to see that Severus was upset about what had just happened and, to let him know that he shouldn't mind it, she softly took the hand that he had offered her.

"Shall we go through...together?" she asked nervously. Her parents had had to stay behind due to Tuney throwing a tantrum in the car. She gave his hand a small squeeze. "It might not be so scary that way..."

"O-O-O-Of course," he replied, blushing a bit and quickly turned his face towards the barrier. Placing both their hands on the trolley, he pushed forward. "Here we go..."

When Lily had opened her eyes and see all the wonders of Platform 9 3/4, she couldn't allow herself to blink her greens eyes even once for fear of missing something. Severus lead her through the crowded platform and onto the train and to an empty compartment for the two of them to share. Severus sat down first and removed a thick book from his bag.

"Defense Against the Dart Arts?" Lily questioned as she read the title. "What's that about?"

Severus looked at the cover and then back at Lily's angelic face. "Ways to protect those that are important to you."

Severus wanted to treat Lily to the assortment of wizarding treats the food trolley had to offer. Chocolate Frogs, Licorice Wands, Fizzing Whizbees, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Cauldron Cakes...he wanted to share it all with her, but he hardly had enough sickles on him to even buy half a Licorice Wand. Each time it went by Severus' palms began to sweat as he contemplated the amount of coins in his bag and the sweets on the trolley.

"Lily...would you li--"

"Oh Severus, look!" she exclaimed, grabbing his hand and pointing out the window at the glowing castle in the distance. "Hogwarts!"

"First years, this way," called an older blonde student wearing robes adorned with emerald green. "Try to keep up as I don't have time for stragglers." The boy surveyed the crowed and his eyes fell on Severus for a moment, but did not linger for too long.

Severus looked at Lily, her flaming read hair dancing in the candlelight, when the prefect began walking away. All the first years began swarming forward and compacting themselves in the corridor so much that there wasn't room to swing a kneazle.

"Stay with me?" Lily asked as she took his hand.

"Of course."

Severus waited beside Lily as student after student was called up to the front to be sorted. He already knew where he would be placed, at least, he hoped to be sorted into the same house as his mother. Lily, however, he didn't know where she would be sorted and that made him nervous.

"Potter, James."

Severus recognized that boy as the one who had pushed his way between him and Lily on the platform and his lips curled into a snarl.

"Gryffindor!"

Good. Different from him.

"Evans, Lily."

Then, Severus world came crashing down and his heart broke.

"Gryffindor!"

All Severus could do was watch as the Sorting Hat was removed from Lily's head and she dismounted the stool. His heart continued to sink as she flew down the steps, her wavy red locks bouncing behind her. She paused for a moment to smile at him before she continued on her way towards the table lined with students in crimson robes. His gazed followed and he took a small step forward as if to chase after her, but his movements were halted by hearing his own name called.

"Snape, Severus."

He stepped forward. Please...let me chase after her...

Severus felt completely helpless as he approached the stool and he found himself completely incapable of sitting down. It was as though the stool was a pogrebin in disguise as wave after wave of despair and futility washed over him and threatened to sweep him away. The Hogwarts professor who had been reading out the names rested their old hand on his shoulder and the gesture acted like a Stunning Spell and woke the young Severus from his trance.

Slowly, he sat down and the hat was placed on his head. He shut his eyes tight, all thoughts on Lily.

"Hmmm...yes....YES! Very difficult, very difficult... I haven't had the pleasure of sorting someone like you before. There is plenty of courage, yes. As much as the girl I just sorted...and perhaps more..."

Severus squirmed in his seat eager to hear the hat call out the same house, but then it continued.

"Loyalty beyond anyone else as well, yes...a very Hufflepuff trait. And there is knowledge and wit beyond measure..."

Severus tried to sway the hat away from these thoughts by focusing more on Lily.

"Cunning as well...oozing with ambitioun..." Severus gasped. "Let is be...SLYTHERIN!"

Dragging his feet towards the Slytherin table, Severus was surprised when a gentle hand reached out and grabbed his own.

"This doesn't change a thing you know," Lily smiled, her emerald eyes twinkling in the candlelight. "You're still my best friend."

Nodding and with a smile on his face, Severus continued on his way to the Slytherin table where he took a seat beside his housemate.

"You're better off without her. Mudbloods like her are best kept away from us. Lower than house elves they are."

Eyes ablaze, Severus punched the boy square in the nose.

"Don't you EVER say that about her AGAIN!"

Bellies full and the Headmaster's speech in one ear and out the other, Severus jumped to his feet. Eager to find her once more before they were ushered to their separate common rooms, Severus moved through the sea of children towards the crimson section of the Great Hall.

"Going somewhere?" asked the bushy haired boy with round glasses he had seen at the station.

Severus peered around him just in time to see Lily follow one of the Gryffindor prefects out of the room.

"I...was...just...wonde---"

"Don't bother. You and your greasy hair should just go to the dungeons and nap. She's with us now."

Momentarily pulling his head out of his liquid memories, Severus leaned all himself against its stone rim as his mind swam in a thick purple haze. Had he known that that day, seeing Lily walk away from him in that way with HIM following after, that it would be the first of many...he would have done something different. Would have said something. Reached out for her. Punched James square in his arrogant nose.

Her lifeless eyes flashed in front of his, threatening to break him again. Not wanting the emptiness to haunt him anymore, Severus dunked his head in once more.
