Default Craft Challenge #7: Hex
Viva Buymoria! Love you Twin!

The theme for challenge #7 is Hex

Make your craft related to a specific offensive spell, jinx or hex; enough that you could call your item by that spell's name. Or maybe it's just something inspired by a spell's name or outcome. (For example, a canary hat in honour of Fred & George's 'Canary Creams", slug-shaped earrings in honour of Ron's 'Eat Slugs!' or even a bracelet with bird charms in honour of Hermione's little fit at Ron in the unused classroom. hehe!)

Here's your guide:
  1. You have to begin it now, it can't be something you made before the challenge was issued.
  2. It has to be related to the theme in some way, but not necessarily in the most obvious way.
  3. You can use designs you found online or in books, or you can design something original.
  4. You have two weeks from the date of the challenge issue to complete the craft.
  5. Your craft can be any artisan craft medium; knit, crochet, wirework, beads, sculpture (bread dough, sculpey, fimo, porcelain clay, wood, stone, clay, metal art clay, glass, etc), food (cake/cookie deco, etc) or any other three dimensional object. Sorry, no graphics or pictures; we have other areas on SS that highlight that kind of art.
  6. You must post a photo/scan for us in this thread when you're done. Include info about it, what it's made of and such. If you want to share your pattern or include process pictures (how you make it), feel free!
  7. This challenge is open and supportive of all levels of ability, from the very beginning beginner to the most advanced artist. All are welcome and praised!
  8. Tell us what you're going to do with your final product; keep it, gift it or donate it.
  9. First one to post their final project gets to pick the theme of the next challenge!!!
  10. Comments are encouraged! Please post comments about challenges & challenge submissions in the HP Craft Talk thread. Everyone loves encouragement.

This challenge expires on July 13, 2008. (Though members are welcome to continue posting pics of any of their projects relating to the theme in this thread after the challenge ends as well as the previous themes (snitches, bookmarks, house pride, quidditch, Weasley & death eaters).

Have fun, guys!

This was an interesting challenge, I must say! After some consideration, I decided to go ahead and make the canary cream (the one that causes people to turn into a canary). After all, do we really know what this candy looks like? I just used my imagination!

I used a knit pattern that was originally for a knit jelly roll (very small). I decided to make the strawberry, as well, since it looks nice and enticing next to the canary cream! The main thing I did differently is make the roll canary yellow rather than brown (after all, it IS a canary cream!)

Everything was knit using very, very small portions of a variety of different yarns. I used Simply Soft for the yellow part and the green leaf for the strawberry, a worsted yarn of uncertain origin for the strawberry itself (red) and the whipped cream on top (white), and an eyelash type yarn for the pink inside of the candy (for effect). This kind of project is a great way to use some of your leftover yarn!

I will show different views, one the part showing the front of the candy (with the pink roll inside), and the other showing the outside (the yellow part). The project took me about 3 hours total to make, but I had to think about it for a whole week before deciding!

Isn't it tasty?

I hope there are more entries. I really want to see!!!!

Note/Update: I really, really want to see more entries. I will give you guys another week, till July 20, to get your stuff in. Let's see all that wonderful creativity come out!

Eeee! My first entry...which would have been posted last week if I hadn't managed to put it in with a bunch of stuff I was selling before managing to take a photo. Luckily it didn't sell, so eventually I can show what I made (and a couple of variations for other spells, however they're not offensive so I guess don't really count!).

The spell I chose was Relashio. Quoting HPLexicon, this spell 'releases a jet of fiery sparks. Underwater, this spell fires a jet of boiling water.' Harry used it against the grindylows in the 2nd task of GoF, and in HBP Ogden used it to knock Marvolo away from Merope, whom he was attempting to strangle. Anyways, I chose this since I found some nice shaped keyrings and wanted to use up some leftover beads from other projects. I went for the 'fiery sparks' look, and it came out like this:

SPOILER!!: Relashio

Whilst I was at it, I also came up with Aguamenti and Green Wand Sparks.

SPOILER!!: Aguamenti

SPOILER!!: Green Wand Sparks

The green one is hanging on a mobile charm holder. All of them are a mixture of glass, plastic and seed beads threaded on silver plated pins. As for what I'll do with them, I'm not sure. They look really pretty hanging from a bag, but otherwise I might give them to friends as presents

It took quite a while to get the pictures up and they're still a little blurry, but finally...

Bedazzlement Hex Earrings

Glass beads in clear with wire wrapped dangles, these little bedazzling earrings should distract anyone from what the wearer is really doing.
