| Craft Challenge #11: Magical Familiars Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
The theme for challenge #11 is Magical Familiars.
(From Wiki: "In many modern fantasy stories, a magician's familiar is a magical creature." So yes, alright, I could have just put "Pets" but this is more fun and allows more creativity. You could go with a basic like Crookshanks or Hedwig or go wild. Have fun.)
Here's your guide:
1. You have to begin it now, it can't be something you made before the challenge was issued.
2. It has to be related to the theme in some way, but not necessarily in the most obvious way.
3. You can use designs you found online or in books, or you can design something original.
4. You have two weeks from the date of the challenge issue to complete the craft.
5. Your craft can be any artisan craft medium; knit, crochet, wirework, beads, sculpture (bread dough, sculpey, fimo, porcelain clay, wood, stone, clay, metal art clay, glass, etc), food (cake deco, etc) or any other three dimensional object. Sorry, no graphics or pictures; we have other areas on SS that highlight that kind of art.
6. You must post a picture for us in this thread when you're done. Include info about it, what it's made of and such. If you want to share your pattern or include process pictures (how you make it), feel free!
7. This challenge is open and supportive of all levels of ability, from the very beginning beginner to the most advanced artist. All are welcome and praised!
8. Tell us what you're going to do with your final product; keep it, gift it or donate it.
9. First one to post their final project gets to pick the theme of the next challenge!!!
This challenge expires on September 28, 2008. (Though members are welcome to continue posting pics of any of their projects relating to the theme in this thread after the challenge ends as well as the previous themes (snitches, bookmarks, house pride, Quidditch, Weasley, Death Eaters, hex, Magical Creatures, and Aguamenti).

Kris is back in the game!!!
Okay, so I did something really simple this time but, I've been wanting to make one of these puppies (well, pygmies) for so long and just never got around to it because what the heck would I do with one (or more because, oh yes, there will be more mwahahahahahaha).
You can get the pattern here.
I used Lionbrand Romance yarn (I think) that I had scraps of. I want to try some in fun fur or something like that next, but the only color I have is dark so I'll have to ponder what to do for eyes.
P.S. It's supposed to be a pygmy puff, in case you couldn't figure it out.

Actually, I made these for another craft challenge at Snitchseeker. The challenge was "familiars" and this was my first impulse.
They're made from Red Heart "Foxy" Polyester in red and navy blue, and polyester fibre fill. The eyes are plastic beads and the sizes of these puffs range from 2" (lil stripey guy) to 3" (navy/red mix guy) tall.

Here's my entry. It is an origami toad which I painted myself (Yes, I know toads are usually brown, but I figured if it was a magical toad, who knows what colour it may be at any given moment)

Okay, I went with the origami animal as well, although this one isn't as pretty as that toad up there. I used the basic crane design, and then I flipped the head and made the tail wavy. I also made the wings wider by opening them back up. So it was supposed to be Norbert, but it totally looks like a phoenix instead. So. Fawkes!

Following along with the pygmy puff theme, I made this rather large eyed one to add to the collection. This one has arms and legs, too! -
Directions can be found at Lion Brand Yarn's website - Lion Brand Yarn
Item is crocheted, and took only a few hours to make! I did use Lion Brand Fun Fur for the body, but then used bits and pieces for the eyes, arms and legs.
