Cherry enters the classroom, looking forward to a new lesson. She nods to Professor Shwmae as she takes a seat.

"Good morning Professor."

Harmony entered the room, once again looking forward to an interesting lesson...
"Good morning, Professor" she said with a smile, and took a seat beside Cherry

"Morning girls!" greets the kindly Professor, grouping together several sheets of parchment before handing Cherry her homework back, freshly marked. "51 out of 80. Definitely one of the better marks. I'm very pleased." she smiled.

Rhiane smiled and sat patiently on the edge of her desk, waiting for more to arrive.

Jade entered the room, excited to get started. She had always loved muggle literature.
"Good Day Professor. I'm Jade."
She said with a smile as she took a seat in the front row and proceeded to pull out parchment, a quill, and ink from her pack.

Jamie walked into the classroom and sat down at a table where another person could sit by her. She took out some parchment and her new quills and she sat and watched the Professor contently.

Bailey entered the classroom and looked around. "Hello Professor. My name is Bailey," she said, before taking a seat near the front. After reading the board, she took out some parchment and a quill and waited for the class to begin.

"Afternoon Jade, Jamie, Bailey," she greeted the girls respectively, a streak of her blonde hair falling into her face, disclosing a suspiciously deep red scar on the top of her ear. Quickly pulling the hair back, she gave a hesistant laugh and asked, "So, has anyone heard of Chaucer before? Can anyone tell me anything about him, absolutely anything ... "

Jade raised her hand.
"Chaucer was born in London between 1340 and 1344, the son of John Chaucer, a vintner. In 1357 he was a page in the household of Prince Lionel, later duke of Clarence, whom he served for many years. Then, in 1359–1360 Chaucer was with the army of Edward III in France, where he was captured by the French but ransomed."

"Very good Jade. 10 points to Gryffindor." she smiled, her magic chalk writing down all Jade had said on the board. She narrowed her eyes at the still class, "Well, take notes."

"Has anyone here ever read any of Chaucer's work before? If so, which is your favourite and why?"

Jade was silent. Sure she had heard of Geoffrey Chaucer and knew a lot about his past and writings, but she had never read any of them. She wondered if anyone else in the class had.

Llewellyn raised his hand, and answered when called, "Ummm...He authored the Canterbury Tales?"

*Vishu raised her hand*
"The known facts of Chaucer's life are fragmentary and are based almost entirely on official records" she said. "In 1359—60 he was with the army of Edward III in France, where he was captured by the French " she said adding to what the other girl had said

"His earlier works are largely based on French models, especially the Roman de la Rose and the poems of Guillaume de Machaut. Chaucer's chief works during this time are the Book of the Duchess, an allegorical lament written in 1369 on the death of Blanche, wife of John of Gaunt, and a partial translation of the Roman de la Rose."

"You're both correct." she nodded to the Hufflepuff and Slytherin. 2 and 10 points respectively for your houses." Craning her neck, she looked above the eager faces, "Has any read any of his work?"

"I have not read any of his work, professor" Vishu said , "But I have read quiet alot about him"

Llewellyn raised his hand again, "I've read portions of the Nun's Priest's Tale, the part about the rooster that is," he added a little dishearteningly, "But I didn't understand any of it..."

She decides to add a bit more, "He also wrote the Parlement of Foules, the House of Fame, and Chanticleer and the Fox, apart from writing poetry. He is also known as the writer of Troilus and Criseyde."

Bailey shook her head slowly, although she was very fond of reading she had not yet read anything by Chaucer. She took some notes and decided to head to the library right after class.

Vishu was going to find one of his books and start reading it right away. She wanted to know more about him and his works.

:: Ganymede slouched in her chair with her Slytherin green and silver ballcap on. She just walked out of a tight situation that almost had her in detention. Her blue hair peaked out from under the cap. She was still too nervous to even attempt a change. She sighed and tried to relax anyway and managed to go back to her natural purple hair and eyes. ::

"Hmmmm..." she nodded her head. It seemed these young wizards weren't quite as familiar with Medieval Muggle English Literature as she'd hoped. However, she was enlightened to hear Cherry drop a few more names of titles. "5 points to Ravenclaw."

Picking up a quill, she brought it to her lips before adding, "Right, well to me it seems to make sense to move onto Geoffrey Chaucer himself."

Pointing her wand at the back of the room, the headprojector turned itself on. The closed curtains seeled shut and a slide dropped into the plate, the image shined on the blackboard.



"Can anyone tell me when this was produced and where?"

She purses her lips as Ganymede enters. "Accio hat!" she calls, the hat zooming into her hands. Rhiane observes it and then stores it in one of her many desk drawers. "I believe that breaks the New Hogwarts Code of Conduct, madam. 10 points from Slytherin."

Jade stared at the image shining on the board. This was the first time she had seen a portrait of Chaucer before. It was quite interesting really.

Llewellyn dropped his hand, and mumbled something inaudible to himself. Having never seen the picture before, he simply began looking around the room somewhat restlessly.
