Professor Rae walked quickly into the classroom, setting a large cage on the desk, covered in a fine cloth with embroidered stars and moons on it. She propped up a sign against it reading, "WARNING! DO NOT TOUCH" before she retreated from the room. She did leave the door open, however, allowing any students to enter while she retrieved the rest of the supplies from her office.

Jaren was the first to enter the classroom, staring at the cage with avid interest, though knowing that the sign had been put on it for a good reason and that he shouldn't tamper with things he had no clue about. He sat down in the front row of the class for a change, and contined to stare at the cage, speculating its contents.

Kay entered the classroom and selected a seat located at the front of the classroom. She noticed a large cage on Professor Rae's desk, covered in a fine cloth with embroidered stars and moons on it. Propped up against the cage was a sign, "WARNING! DO NOT TOUCH." Kay knew that Professor Rae would reveal the contents of the cage during class, and so she decided to read chapter 13 of the DADA textbook while awaiting the lecture to begin.

Nadia was the third student to enter, settling in between Kay and Backslash. Looking at the star-covered veil she considered they might be working with a night-creature. She looked attentive around, expecting, as obvious, that the sign would bring troublemaker in detention as honey to bees. And with the professor out, she better take care herself along with other 4th and 3rd years...

Hermy walked into the room and found a seat near the front of the room. As she glanced at the Professor's desk she noticed a cage covered in a fine looking cloth. The cage moved every now and then. She became lost in thought about which creature they would be studying today as she stared at the cage.

Lyra entered the classroom and immediately noticed the cage on the professor's desk. Her mind started running thru all the different creatures that could be in there. As she took a seat, she was wondering how long it would be before someone ignored the sign and took a peek.

"Good day to you, class," Professor Rae returned to find all the students sitting at their desks. "Thank you for heading my warning. I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know you need your quill and parchment for now, but you will use your wands later in the class. Now, a few classes ago, we had an unexpected visit by some creatures." She was nearly laughing as she told this. "Can anyone recall what they were?"

"That's correct, buckeye_forever. Five points to Ravenclaw. That's correct, we did have an attempted dumping of lethifolds in here a few lessons back, however, it turns out they weren't really lethifolds." She was laughing outright now. "They were actually enchanted dishtowels, but the intent was still the same. Now, we're going to speak a bit about lethifolds in a moment, but first I'd like you to sketch the creature on your parchment and tell me one distinguishing characteristic."

*Chris draws the lethifold and notes near the bottom of his parchment, from a book he read, the following:

It attacks sleeping humans, smothers them, then digests them, all in their bed, leaving no trace at all. The only defense against a lethifold is a Patronus Charm. Thankfully, this frightening creature is rare, only found in the tropics (FB).

*He also notes that the Patronus Charm is also useful against a Dementor*

Hermy begans to draw on her parchment. She raises her hand. "Lethifolds resemble black cloaks about a half an inch thick. They are thicker if they have recently killed someone."

They attacks when it's victim is sleeping and it smothers them. When the lethifold is finished there is no trace of the victim.

"That's exactly correct, Hermy. Five points. The lethifold resembles nothing more than a large cloak. It is thin and black, often being even thinner than the half inch that Hermy quoted if it hasn't eaten recently. That thickness is in the middle, but they are often thin as cloth on the edges." She pulled the cover off the cage and grabbed what looked like a bit of old rag resting against the bar. "Do you see how thin it is? How does a lethifold travel if it is shaped like a cloak?"

"Indeed, Hermy. Five more points. As you can see, the lethifold appears to be a rather pathetic creature. Thin and with no extremeties to fight with. No obvious fangs or mouths. Yet, it is considered quite dangerous. What is the MoM rating, and why do you think it is so?"
