| | |  The Indoor Garden
credit: hermionesclone The common room is less of a jungle than it was under its predecessor, but Professor Noble has maintained the tradition of an indoor garden for all Hufflepuffs to enjoy. As you enter, you’ll brush past a planter of chiming bluebells and lavender, the gentle sound and light scent emitted setting a relaxing vibe to the space. Woven seagrass matting makes it comfortable under foot, even for those venturing from the common room bare-foot. A vertical garden hangs on the wall, filled with edible flowers, herbs and potions ingredients. At the foot of the wall sits a raised bed, with a few remaining fruit bushes from Professor Myers - if you’re hungry, you might find blackberries, raspberries and strawberries ripe and ready to eat plucked straight from the bush.
There are a couple of work benches and a brewing area nearby, for those who want to do some planting of their own, or put the fresh supply of ingredients to good use. A book of suggested potions recipes by year group hangs on the wall, with blank pages for students to add their own. Whether to plant, brew or simply relax, this space offers a change of pace from the common room, and it’s left to the Hufflepuffs to maintain and curate as they wish. | |

Maxie wasn't the kind of Hufflepuff who was born with a green thumb, not by any means at all, but he had discovered the Indoor Garden to be properly interesting. It was not the plants which kept his attention, but the student wrote potions book.
He was not sure how old the book was - it felt old, and well-read - or who had left it here, and that would usually be reason enough for Maxie to take off running - except it all felt so reassuring, and normal.
Settled on the ground by a blackberry bush, Maxie carefully set the potions book on his lap and got ready for a quiet bit of reading.

Sebastian just wanted a quiet space to practice on his guitar. The music room was always so busy...he just didn't attempt to go there anymore. Whenever he knew the garden was most likely empty he would venture out and practice.
Today it wasn't empty. But that was alright. He didn't mind other students out there...as long as they weren't too loud. "Hey, Maxie! Catching up on potions are we?" He said with a grin to the younger boy. He pulled the guitar bag off of his shoulder and rested it on the ground.
Hopefully the younger boy wouldn't mind him practicing out here. Sebastian actually studied better with music, but he wasn't going to be presumptuous and assume Maxie wouldn't mind. Not everyone was a music enthusiast like he was.

Careful, cautious, he knew it was possible to repair the book's pages with magic (if need be) but the thirteen-year-old would rather it didn't come to that. Magic was seamless and nice and all, but memories would always remain no matter how perfect things got put back together.
So lost in his thoughts was Maxie, he didn't notice Sebastian or his guitar until the older boy spoke! He nearly jumped out of his skin- nearly- but not quite. Red-faced, the younger puff gave the older boy a slightly scandalized look. He cleared his throat. "Y-yeah." He replied, tightly gripping a page corner. "A-a-are you s-sticking a-around?" the question was hopeful, but not the kind of hope that wanted company. the kind of hope that hoped for the opposite. Maxie internally wiggled.
It wasn't that he minded Sebastian. He was okay, if a bit too cheerful. Maxie just.... really... didn't... know .... how to.. function... around.. people. and Sebastian was people.

Sebastian instantly felt bad when the younger boy jumped when he spoke. He hadn't meant to scare him and thought he had heard when he came into the garden but apparently his assumption was wrong. "Sorry for scaring you, Maxie. I thought you heard me," he said with an apologetic smile.
With that questions, Sebastian suddenly had the feeling Maxie was wanting to be alone. "Oh, well, I don't have to if you don't want me to. The music room was full and I didn't want to bother anyone in the common room. But if you want to be alone I can just go back inside and practice later." He said with a disappointed grin.
He pulled his guitar strap over his shoulders, guitar on his back, and began to head towards the door. He didn't want to be a bother to anyone especially if they were trying to study.
