Potions Lesson 1

https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/ppiCAb.png

It had turned snowy outside, and the walk along the potions corridor to the first class after Christmas was a little nippy. Inside the classroom it was a tad warmer, Noble having already lit his burner at the front of the class to try and take the chilly edge off the room. Thankfully today's class was a practical one, as evidenced by the trays of ingredients on the side bench, and the room would soon warm up once they started the brewing proper.

Noble lent against the front of his desk, sipping a strong, dark coffee from the new travel mug his daughter had gifted him for Christmas. His gaze moved to the door and the students entering. "Hurry up and come in...let's try keep some of the heat in the room, shall we?" Any other day he would have them turn on their burners early whilst they were covering the theory, but that hardly seemed a wise idea with the initial experiment they'd be performing today.

Lesson progression:
Greetings and first question
Replies and second question
Replies and trying to brew with impaired sight
Moving on to brewing the Oculus potion
Brewing step 2
Brewing step 3

Vita slipped into the classroom, hair clipped back out of her face, uniform neat, and with a demeanor that said she was ready to work. "Hello Professor," She greeted politely as she walked past towards her work station. She wondered what they'd be brewing today, and hoped that it wasn't anything too crazy. She wasn't the best at potions, and she didn't fancy anything blowing up in her face.

Felixir 06-12-2019 12:32 AM

Potions was one lesson that Kaiser wasn't actually too terrible at... at least as far as actually brewing the mixtures went. It was funny, really; for someone who did not like being told what to do in the slightest, he was actually quite good at closely following instructions, when he was in the right frame of mind. As for all the theory, though? The essays, the knowledge of ingredients, knowing how different things reacted together or why stirring clockwise would complete a potion whereas stirring anticlockwise would make it explode... all lost on him. He could brew you a potion, but he couldn't tell you how or why it worked.

Kaiser was not bothered by the chill in the corridors. He felt it, sure, of course he did, but he could cope with it, what with knowing he had a roof over his head and hot meals to look forward to. He'd survived bitter winters without that kind of security. Even so, he wasn't in the best of moods when he entered the classroom, though his expression was at least more distracted than gloomy.

Offering Professor Noble a small nod in greeting, Kaiser headed directly for a workstation and got himself settled, but his thoughts were a million miles away from the potions classroom which... well, probably wasn't wise, but there it was.

Charely Potter 06-12-2019 01:12 AM

Taddy had another lesson with Potions to deal with. He was still in that fuzzy break mode having spent a nice Christmas break with his family. It was chilly in the halls, and if he could've he would've been bundled up in a blanket. It's not exactly safe to brew potions while bundled in a blanket, risking damage to it. And it was going to be hot from the cauldrons anyway.

"Hi Professor." Tad greeted as he entered in. He wondered what would be on the agenda today.

GrapehSarah 06-12-2019 01:31 AM

Cassidy could not believe how chilly the dungeons were. Hopefully the potions classroom would be a bit warmer. Otherwise, she didn't know how well she'd be able to pay attention. Cold was not her friend. She couldn't wait for winter to be over. And it was at least a tad bit warmer in the classroom. "Hello professor." She said in her normal sing songy voice as she took a seat near the front.

Jessiqua 06-12-2019 01:54 AM

Always ready for Potions, Hanna entered the dungeon with all of her winter clothing on. It was cold, she felt stiff in her joints, and she did not enjoy it. Nope, not a bit. She had her bag full of the necessary parchment, quill, ink, and texts. And in her arms she carried her cauldron and potion kit.

"Hello Professor Noble," Hanna said as she scurried in at his suggestion of hurrying up. Yes, she could see why. Her face was probably turning red as the heat in the room returned blood flow to her skin. Her nose was slowly warming up, and she was able to take off a few things. Gloves, beanie, scarf.

Ginevra 06-12-2019 02:01 AM

Daisy quickly entered the Potions classroom, happy that the room was a bit warm. "Hello, Professor Noble," she greeted with a smile before making her way to a workstation near the front of the classroom and readying herself for the lesson.

littledhampir 06-12-2019 02:06 AM

Indigo was feeling very refreshed after the break. He'd studied, yes, but not as much as he had been before the holidays. It had been break, which meant he shouldn't have to study. Not as much, anyway. He'd stayed at Hogwarts and the castle had been very quiet. But Presley had stayed too, and he always loved spending time with him. So he was in a good mood and ready for Potions. "Hello professor," he greeted as he headed into the classroom. Indigo made a beeline for Vita and smiled at her as he took a seat at her table.

Fireheart 06-12-2019 02:44 AM

Avalon had mixed feelings about returning to school after the holidays. On one hand, she was bummed to leave her family and the days of endless relaxation behind. But on the other, she was looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. She had missed her friends and even some of her professors. Nevertheless, she was feeling refreshed and ready to finish out the last half of her first year at Hogwarts.

Thankfully, the classroom was a bit warmer than the rest of the castle. Avalon couldn't deny that she was looking forward to the arrival of spring. Cold weather was nice over the Christmas holiday, but after that, Avalon was ready for some warmth. "Good day, Professor," she said with a brief nod as she slid into an empty seat. Glancing at the trays of ingredients, Avalon presumed that they would be brewing something today. She was grateful that the first lesson back from break would probably be a practical, interesting one, at least.

SilverTiger 06-12-2019 07:10 AM

Her shorter hair meant her braid was significantly shorter than it used to be, but otherwise it was a Stasya who looked as usual when it came to attending Potions. She’d thought about dropping the subject several times over the years, if just to keep Professor Noble from having to continue to deal with her issues with using creature parts of vague provenances, but something told her the subject might be useful in the long run when it came to creature care. Maybe it was just rationalization on her part, but either way, she was there slipping inside the classroom from the chilly corridor.

“Good day Professor Noble. Did you have a nice holiday?,” she said, giving the professor a smile as she headed for her usual workstation. The trays on the side bench had been noticed and filed away for later perusal. Practical lessons were always more tenuous in her mind, and not because she was particularly bad at actually brewing potions. It was just her bias against a lot of the actual ingredients.

lazykitty 06-12-2019 10:27 AM

Archer was glad to be back in the castle, despite having a nice holiday. It was a relief being back in the UK.

"Hello, Professor Noble!" she chirped as she did as instructed and hurried into the room. Hey, keeping the heat in sounded like a great idea to her, even though it usually heated up anyway once they started brewing. Speaking of which, the ingredients spread out left her with no clue as to which potion they would be brewing today. Hmm.

Samia 06-12-2019 11:03 AM

Potions was perfect. Not because was suddenl]y good at it, but because it would be a perfect disaster to be distracted by.

Despite the Christmas break, Missa Renaldi was still on edge - maybe this was just her personality now. See, professor Beryl, people can change.

The brunette made her way into class, and greeted the professor before finding a seat somewhere in the middle. A seat not to draw much attention to herself, but also to be visible enough to call on the professor when she does start to mess up. It was all inevitable really.

sweetpinkpixie 06-12-2019 04:42 PM

Eiji had been more keen than usual to return to the Potions classroom, a few supplies in the room that were necessary to his...extra curricular brew of choice. He knew he was risking some respect points with Professor Noble, but if everything went as expected things would never be traced back to him anyway and the process would be so slow that by the time things began happening it would seem completely random.

But it meant that during class he needed to sneak something out and right from under the Potions Master's nose. Good thing the fourth year was up to the challenge.

Greeting the professor with a rare smile - this was, perhaps, the only class Eiji actually smiled while greeting - he surveyed his options for stations when his hazel-green eyed fell on her.

And really, there was no question where he would be sitting and his body was moving on its own accord even if his brain commanded he resist.

Sliding up to the vacant stool beside her, Eiji said nothing as he set his things out at the station beside Missa's. He had missed her. Far more so than usual and he was a bit reluctant to think about what that meant. Or what a potential outcome could be.

oh its Erik ok 06-12-2019 06:21 PM

She will being getting her revenge on said one Vivi Fairfield. That babbling potion in her cereal was not cool. Everything else about it was in her opinion even the jello bed. Cant believe she didn't wake up. Oh well back to the same old same old here in the castle.

"Hey Professor"

And that is all Elosie said as she took a random seat.

gritandgrace 06-12-2019 07:44 PM

Eniola was excited. Potions is her favourite class and she eagerly awaits it every time. Professor Noble was an excellent teacher and she was excited to learn from him.

"Hello Professor." She greeted him warmly even in the chilly classroom. It was good to be back after Christmas holidays.

MadMadamMalfoy 06-12-2019 08:35 PM

Why did the holidays have to end so soon? Tina would've much preferred to stay in France than return to the madness that was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, thank you very much! And technically she could've; she was seventeen now. But her parental figures wanted her to continue her education, so she was here, at least until the end of the term.

This morning's cold only added to her extreme dislike of the school. She made her way down the corridor to the potions classroom, bundled in her cloak and Ravenclaw scarf over her uniform. She'd even cast a slight warming charm on herself, but she could still feel a chill. Well, she supposed it could be worse. It was worth the cold to get to one of the few classes she actually liked. You wouldn't catch her braving the cold for something like DADA or Arithmancy!

"Hello, Professor Noble," Tina greeted, giving a polite nod as she hurried past him into the room. No need to tell her twice! It was too cold to be standing in the halls any longer than necessary. The warmth of the classroom was a welcome change from the corridor, and Tina removed her cloak and scarf, taking a moment to make sure her uniform remained in its immaculate, unwrinkled state. She headed to the nearest empty work station and neatly arranged her supplies. As she did so, she eyed the ingredients on the table with curiosity. She wondered what they would be doing with those. Hopefully nothing too chaotic! It was too soon after the break to dive right back into chaos.

siriusblackliveson 06-12-2019 08:37 PM

Ugh.... classes. He was not thrilled to be back and taking notes and doing the school thing. Patrick had enjoyed every moment of sleeping in and relaxing with his family over the christmas break. He wasn't mad to be back at school he had genuinely missed his friends but he wasn't ready to be academic yet.

Walking with a purpose into the room he took his seat at his usual bench that was about halfway into the room and toward a wall. He liked it kept him out of the line of fire for questions, and for students needing help. He was not about that life.... well at least today. Nodding as he took his seat, "Hello Professor." He wanted to get this thing going so maybe it would warm up in there.

SneakySeverusSnape 06-12-2019 09:12 PM

A bit rude, don't you think? Analiese quietly reflected on how Professor Noble greeted them. Actually it's not a bit rude, it's VERY rude. " Hello, Professor. Did you have a nice holiday?" See, that was how you greet someone, Professor Noble. She walked over to the seat next to Avalon and sat down. "Hello, Avalon. Did you have a nice break?"

hermionesclone 06-12-2019 09:54 PM

........ uhhhh.........

Hurry up?

Lucas quickened his shuffling into the room, his arms wrapped tightly around his chest. It was COLD, cold enough to make him wish he'd asked one Jessa Cambridge about those heating charms before she left. Not to mention that he'd been in Brazil over the holidays, which was MUCH different to Scotland.

But he was here. Finally. "Hello, Professor," he said very quietly as he shuffled over towards an empty seat. One on a very empty table somewhere closer to the middle of the classroom. It wasn't like Astronomy, where he'd want to sit as close to the front as he could, and it wasn't like Flying where he'd want to be as hidden as possible.

Could they light their burners? Some heat would be nice.

PhoenixRising 06-12-2019 11:13 PM

Maeve was in a mood. Which weirdly had nothing to do with being back at the castle. It was related to going home to Cornwall and instead of finding her aunt there like she expected, the cottage was vacant. Her aunt had said she'd see her at Christmas, and yet the cottage was as she'd left it back in August. The only thing holding her right now was the fact that in about a week she'd be OF-AGE. And while she might be back to not having family, she had her friends. She did still have those, right? The ones who counted.

"Hello Professor Noble," she greeted of him, shuffling in and finding a place next to Patrick.

MunchyBubbles 06-12-2019 11:27 PM

Was Kamryn ready to be back to classes?

No, no she wasn’t really. She had enjoyed the Holiday with Bast and his family and then come back to school early to perhaps hang out with a certain brunette.. she hadn’t even seen any of her own family over the holiday either.

She walked into the room, her blue eyes scanning it to see if she could see any of her friends.

“Hello Professor. ” She said in a soft voice as she greeted her professor and her head of house.

The sixth year then made a bee line towards Maeve and Patrick and settled by them with a grin at her best friend and a small wave at the Slytherin Prefect.

The Slytherin Prefect was the first to arrive, and though she wasn’t one of his top students, Noble was pleased to see she looked orderly and ready for the new year. “Hello, Vita,” he replied with a nod.

Kaiser was the next one to enter, but unlike Vita, looked to be somewhat distracted. Noble coughed pointedly. “Good day, Kaiser.” Hopefully the boy would zone back in before the lesson started properly.

There were just some first years that seemed overly cheerful, and Cassidy was one of them with her perennial sing-song voice. Noble took another glug of coffee; he wasn’t yet caffeinated enough to deal with this. “Hello Cassidy.”

Well…someone was certainly cold. Noble’s lip quirked in amusement as the Ravenclaw Prefect started to derobe. “Good day, Hanna. Please ensure all your accoutrements are put safely out of the way under your desk.” He did not want to be sending someone to the healer for a concussion due to tripping over a stray scarf.

He'd been wondering where the Hufflepuffs were at, given that the common room was hardly far away. Daisy’s arrival suggested that there wasn’t in fact some sort of house emergency he should be worried about. “Hello, Daisy.”

Analiese should really be used to the Potion Professor’s demeanour by now; he was well known around the school for being brusque and to the point. Probably grumpy and surly too, depending on who you asked. Either way, a reputation tended to precede him with students nowadays. “Hello, Analiese. And yes, it was quite pleasant.” But no, he wouldn’t be giving details.

SPOILER!!: Maeve

Her aunt had said she'd see her at Christmas, and yet the cottage was as she'd left it back in August. The only thing holding her right now was the fact that in about a week she'd be OF-AGE. And while she might be back to not having family, she had her friends. She did still have those, right? The ones who counted.

"Hello Professor Noble," she greeted of him, shuffling in and finding a place next to Patrick.

…and another shuffler. Noble sighed. “Please pick your feet up, Maeve. The floor has already been cleaned today.” Surely she could walk properly as a seventh year?
SPOILER!!: Kamryn

No, no she wasn’t really. She had enjoyed the Holiday with Bast and his family and then come back to school early to perhaps hang out with a certain brunette.. she hadn’t even seen any of her own family over the holiday either.

She walked into the room, her blue eyes scanning it to see if she could see any of her friends.

“Hello Professor. ” She said in a soft voice as she greeted her professor and her head of house.

The sixth year then made a bee line towards Maeve and Patrick and settled by them with a grin at her best friend and a small wave at the Slytherin Prefect.

He was about to shut the door, but Kamryn slipped in just in time. Good job too, Hufflepuff were struggling for points as was, it wouldn’t have sat well for him to lower that tally taking points for tardiness. “Just in time, Kamryn. Hurry up and find your seat.”

That said, Noble finally shut the door with a flick of his wand. He placed the coffee cup to his side on the desk, and clapped his hands together to get everyone’s attention. “Welcome back everyone. I do hope you’re all feeling refreshed from the break, and ready to hit the ground running.” His gaze scanned the classroom, picking out those who he would need to be keeping a closer eye on. “To start off today, what are some ailments of the eye?”

ooc: hello hello, thank you all for coming! Class has now officially started, so be aware that any IC lateness will have IC repercussions. Of course, you can always join in like you've been here the whole time!

Eiji appreciated that Professor Noble respected his tendency towards silence. Something a few professors could do better with rather than try to force him to give answers when he was perfectly content with sitting and listening. Particularly when answers were far too obvious and the effort it took to respond to something that felt like common sense was not wroth it.

Somewhat like this particular question. Which naturally elicited several different options in the fourth year's mind. The most obvious being blindness and the general degeneration of of the function of the eye due to old age. But his hand remained down and instead set to getting his parchment prepared for the lesson with the date and other necessary details.

Once that was done...he couldn't help himself and took a bit of spare parchment and did the most teenager thing possible in the moment: he wrote a note and passed it sideways to Missa.

Daisy had been studying medical ailments both of the magical and non-magical variety during the Christmas break so her hand immediately shot up and when she was called upon, she answered, "Glaucoma is where damage to the optic nerve occurs due to pressure caused by a build-up of fluid in the eye."

Considering Eniola’s desire to be a healer, she was glad to hear any health related questions from Professor’s. In fact, as odd as it may be, she tends to perk up and listen a little more. Regardless of how gross it can be.

Eniola raised her hand and when called upon answered, ”Macular degeneration, sir. It causes you to loose the sharpness in your eyesight, is often age-related and can lead to eventual blindness. It’s quite unfortunate.”

She was curious to see what potion they’d be looking at today and if it’s be one she’d need to know for her NEWTs. Regardless she had her pen and notebook at the ready to take detailed notes. No sense in falling behind.
