Default DADA Lesson 2 - What Makes You Dark?

There’s nothing spectacular about the classroom as you walk in today. No charms to make it entirely unrecognisable and no creatures likely to threaten your very feeling of safety. What is present is the decorations hung in jolly fashion in light of the festive season.

The desks are lined in neat rows, awaiting the arrival of their occupants. On the board reads a sign that says: “Drop your homework in the box before taking your seat”. The box in question sits on Headmaster Trent’s desk and perched against the edge of the desk is the Headmaster himself.

Did you remember your essay? All 24 inches of it?

To one corner, there is a pile of unknown things, stacked and covered by cloth. Those are of no concern for now. Come on in and prepare for the afternoon’s lesson.

OOC: Welcome to another DADA lesson!! Lost track of time with getting this up but here it is <3 Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 20-24 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet

CLASS HAS BEGUN!

Discussions based on moral ambiguity depending on what side of history you were on were not the sort of philosophical discussions he felt like participating in. Though he did like what that one Hufflepuff was saying - and oh look at Trinetta getting on board with grey areas. A bit of growth? Maybe.

And then when the professor finally got to the point, he couldn't help but roll his eyes. Right, so the whole point had been to illustrate the gray areas of magic. Though, seeing how some of his classmates had spoken, he supposed some had needed the roundabout means of reaching the conclusion. Whatever, they were moving along and Eiji found himself...not necessarily wanting to make a mockery of this activity, but more that he was interested in the skew that such posters could take. Propaganda in their own way.

Which meant he needed just the right partner for this.....

"Oi, Trinetta," he whispered while nudging her with his elbow. "Pair up. You make my wanted poster and I'll make yours."
Before Nettie even had a chance to think about what she wanted to put on her wanted poster, she felt Eiji nudging her and turned to him with a grin. He wanted to partner with her? REALLY? This could certainly open a can of worms on both their ends. Then again, when weren't they pushing each other's buttons like that?

"You sure you wanna do that?" she teased before she got up and headed to the front to get her picture taken for the poster. Once she'd had her mugshot done and attached it to her poster, she handed it to him, pretending to be hesitant about it but grinned and placing it on his desk anyways.

"Don't be TOOOO mean to me?" she asked, batting her eyelashes at him in a mock attempt to gain some sympathy. She had a feeling she already knew where this was going, and if it had to do with a certain locket, she was gonna slug him.

Eloise had not really cared much for where the conversation had steered to because it got all philosophical with what a dark wizard really was and what was the real definition and to be frank she didn't care. Unless she was mishearing everything which is possible since she zoned out after Trent didn't even look amused at her rumor.

Rude

BUT, now she was paying attention because this sounded like fun. Mugshot photo and making a report...because let's be real here Eiji would be the one not getting caught. She would want the attention and would get caught eventually. True Story. What would be even better if she could get ah Nettie got Eiji. Still she was going to do a wanted poster because it was more fun than a report.

Oh well, she will just write her own since she just went up and got her mugshot sorted out. Trying to look as crazy and psychotic as possible. You know for fun. Tho it would be fun too have a partner in crime. Even tho the saying Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead is still true in 2098.

Getting into specifics didn't seem wise on the poster like imperiusing the victim and making them take extreme laughing potions. See interesting stuff Headmaster and like she needed to think of more ideas. and really this was good enough. Maybe she didn't need the amusement part. BUT it was her so it needed to be there. She would be a dark witch with this description.

Cool...Cool...hope this is ok Headmaster

If he were to ever get caught for anything, it wouldn't be because he had been twisted bat feces insane. Yeah, he saw you there Eloise. Slapping his picture on to a piece of parchment, he idly traded with her. "I whole heartedly intend on embellishing the truth," he stated with a smirk.

And the locket would without a doubt make an appearance. He could be predictable when he wanted to.

Mulling over things a bit, he retrieved his quill and got to work.

Default Been here allll along .... and claiming Józef!

Holly would be lying if she said that she was looking forward to class. She wasn’t. Right now, she was looking forward to snuggling with Avery in front of a warm fire with some cocoa, all before going home for Christmas to see her parents and Cameron. Who she was going to hug for at least ten minutes straight. Then she’d you know, hug her parents and make sure they were happy to see her. Then she’d hug Cam again. He was special, mmmmmhhhmmmmm.

Dropping her homework into the box as she passed the Headmaster’s desk, she gave him a smile regardless. It wasn’t his fault that she just wanted it to be Christmas already. ”Heylo, Professor.” The Slytherin said, before continuing her way to her chair. Where she then twirled her hair around her fingers as she waited for her friends to join her.

…. Though, now that she thought about it. It wasn’t very often she got to pick a seat in a normal classroom when she was in DADA…. Sighing, she tried not to look too disappointed. That probably meant they were going to be doing something bored and theoretical. … Which while it meant she didn’t spend the whole lesson getting frustrated for not achieving the end goal, it was always less interesting.

---

…. Dark Wizards ….

She sat up a little bit straighter in her chair at that - she hadn’t been sure if their reading and homework was actually going to be so quickly linked to their classwork. Amazing. Okay, Professor Trent. You had her attention.

…. Hmm. Raising her hand slowly, head tilted to the side she frowned slightly. ”Professor, surely.. You need to look at a person's intent behind their actions to know what they are like as a person? That their background and their situation may have something to do with what they are doing… or that their own personal intentions haven’t actually been influenced by anyone else and that they actually are doing things of their own will… Or is it more to do with what they aim to do… if they want to influence other people's will….?” ???

After all, in gymnastics she could do a move and end badly - but if she caught it well, and managed to change her core.. She could deceive and throw off those watching her, flash another move or two and show them that nothing had gone wrong… that everything was as she had intended. … Maybe that was the dance that a Dark Wizard danced? Hiding what they were doing until it was utterly too late to do anything about it.

---

“Stealing isn’t good.” She started a blanket statement that shopkeepers looked down on you for. ”But if you are starving, and don’t have money… then stealing may be the only way you can get food, eat, stay alive and try and keep fighting. It isn’t that they want to steal… they just want to eat something.”

Though… that probably wasn’t enough on the “evil” side of things… but…. It was the first thing that she thought of.

Letting everyone else talk, Holly wrote down their ideas even as she thought about her own ideas. What would she do for Cam and her parents? What would she do that she shouldn’t, in the worst of situations… Huh.

---

Moving to get her picture, hair all wild curls like normal as she’d been outside in the wind already today, Holly made her eyes slightly wide to look truly crazy. Though, she smirked slightly as she looked at the picture. She felt like she shouldn’t have looked as pretty as that when she had tried to look crazier than normal. Or maybe she just always looked crazy. Huh.

She didn’t want to think about that anymore. Ahem. Moving on.

Turning around to look around the class, she noted Jorgie and Alis working together so she moved right over to Józef and plopped herself elegantly on the chair next to him. Crossing one leg over the other, she smirked at him. ” “We’re going to work together, Jó.” She told him, not even bothering to ask if that was okay… she wanted to work with him - so there we go.

She tapped her picture, attaching it to her parchment as she got herself settled. Quill in hand, she twirled it slightly. “What did you do?” She asked, head tilting curiously.

Nettie smirked to herself as she got her parchment and tapped her chin with her quill, thinking about what she wanted do. If she REALLY wanted to be sassy, she could accuse him of being a serial dater. It had been almost a year since that all went down, they could joke about THAT aspect of things, right? Because they still agreed to disagree on the whole 'dating' thing that had caused the ensuing blow up in the first place. Or maybe she could bring up the flobberworm tattoo again. He LOVED when she did that. Eloise would get a kick out of it too.

Nope, instead, she decided to go a less scandalous route - but still amusing to her. Mostly because she didn't want the Headmaster to find out about all the dirty laundry between the two of them, quite honestly. He didn't need to know about all that. Plus, this WAS an assignment for class, so she had to be somewhat professional. If she had just been sharing this with Eiji, she TOTALLY would have gone the alternative route. She smiled to herself as the idea started to form in her brain, and she began to scribble down the words on the parchment.

"Done!" she said with a proud grin a few moments later, showing him her poster. Hehehe.

SPOILER!!: POSTER!

Unlike his partner, Eiji was hanging all the laundry out to dry including that one pair of undergarments with that awkward looking stain that you would swear on your life was not what it looked like. Only he was embellishing, a lot. It was all a matter of perspective, after all. Sirius Black had been falsely accused of Dark crimes he had never committed and nearly paid his soul for it. This was merely an illustration of how these posters and reports could equally be tainted (like his childhood plushie) and skewed by authorities and the public to meet their own needs as a means to an end. You saw it all the time in both muggle and wizarding crimes.

There was no doubt in his mind that Trinetta would get caught, so he entirely vetoed the whole poster angle and went right for a basic report. First up was a doodle of the Ministry logo - which he had memorized by this point in helping grandpa answer his private mail and lick envelopes to the upcoming Ministry function in Diagon Alley. And then...he got to work. The words came easy, almost TOO easy, and it was almost a crime itself how easy it was to funnel past actions through the heinous lens of a Dark criminal investigator.

Once he was, mostly, satisfied, he glanced over at what Trinetta had done and his eyes widened. Okay, maybe his vicious attempt was warranted. There was his name, his FULL name, right there smack on her piece of parchment. And his jaw set before he could help himself and hide the fact that that had gotten to him. "Poison would be in my wheelhouse," he said, clearing his throat coolly as he passed his work over to her. But if poisoning made him a Dark wizard already then...well....

Ahem.

Hopefully she would get that it was satirical in nature. He figured the subtle additions to her appearance would help. Had to also look the part, after all.

SPOILER!!: I am so sorry, Nettie XD

Cassidy wasn't sure about this activity. It was definitely going to be a hard one for her to come up with an answer to. Well she could at least start with getting her picture taken. She went up to the front and did the best to wipe the smile off of her face. Then she tried to look as tough and scary as possible, which was quite hard for the first year to do. She grabbed her picture and went back to the desk. Looking at it, she felt it looked nothing like her. She had only ever really seen pictures of herself smiling.

Cassidy bit her lip as she twirled her quill between her fingers. What would she be wanted for though? Definitely not murder. She didn't think she would ever be able to do that. Even if her family was in danger. Maybe smuggling in illegal creatures because she did love creatures. But then there was that whole doing things to protect her family. She bit her lip. This was going to take her a bit of time to figure out.

This lesson was starting to shape up to be rather theory heavy, which Nina appreciated very much. Activities were only useful in some instances, and unlike some of her other Professors, the Headmaster knew there was always a time when their lessons would be better suited for lectures. She liked him for that. As for the discussion at hand, it was incredibly intriguing. Intent was often tricky because one couldn’t exactly measure it. Vertasium helped in a way that muggles could not replicate, but motive was often times less black and white than one would hope for it to be. Even with the truth. Though maybe it wasn’t intent that made this so difficult, but instead how lines were drawn.

Which is why the next question posed to the class brought Nina even further into her thoughts. Unlike some of her classmates, Nina had a very clear idea of what was right and wrong. Her morals didn’t always align with those others held, but she had a standard. Rules were meant to be followed, that’s why they were in place. Though… some rules were ridiculous and that’s where Nina often found herself stuck. Because were ridiculous rules still meant to be followed? Yes. Rules were rules, were they not? However, when it was a matter of life or death, maybe this changed things. The Slytherin was sure that if the situation called for it, she would use self defense rather than die at the mercy of another’s wand. But hypotheticals were difficult to navigate. She wasn’t entirely sure what she would do in the scenario as there was something she clearly thought she would do, but whether or not that would be the reality… Questionable. Even she knew to admit this to herself.

And although she would have much rather sat down, written notes, and continued thinking for the entirety of the lesson, she wasn’t terribly upset at the announcement of the activity. It didn’t sound incredibly engaging, but surely there would be a purpose to it. She trusted Headmaster Trent. Perhaps because he was very pretty, but maybe for other reasons too.

She waited until the others walked up to get their parchment before making her way up to the front of the room herself and grabbing some parchment. With slight hesitance in her step, she made her way over to the photo station, waiting her turn before standing in front of the camera. If this were a mugshot, then they weren’t meant to smile, yes? So she stood and gave the camera a practiced pout before walking off to retrieve the shot.

So she stood and gave the camera a practiced pout before walking off to retrieve the shot.

There was a lot of looking here and looking there and wide eyes coming from Drewett. This class took a hundred eighty degree turn from simply giving out answers to the headmaster's question. Now, they were talking about how the situation had a lot of gray area, and there were people debating and drawing the line meant not being considerate of things and then rumours about the former head girl, Jessa Cambridge, being a dark witch.

But the rumour on Professor O'Hara being a part-goblin was taking away the price today. Drewett nearly gasped when he heard that one, and he even had to pause half-way through writing his notes to compose himself. He wasn't sure it was funny??? Or??? He was conflicted. His facial expressions showed his internal conflict. But also, if Professor O'Hara was truly part-goblin, that would make her and Eloise somehow of the same species since that redhead was a goblin too. A troll-goblin hybrid, to be exact. Interesting cross-species genetics, if you asked him. One worth studying.

Time for a...what? Mug shot? Drewett never thought of himself as mug shot-worthy, to be honest. He wasn't even criminal-worthy. Or whatever worthy. He didn't know what to do, but nevertheless he stood from his seat and stood at the end of the line for his turn. Standing behind Nina, he gently nudged her arm. "I-I'll do yours, you do mine," he offered. Drewett also would have loved to do Eloise's "wanted" poster but the Slytherin had already created her own. He'd have added a little something about her penchant for gossip. If rumours could kill, the dead would die twice because of Eloise. Grindelwald and Tom Riddle would be dethroned. Allison Hargreeves would choke. The Daily Prophet would shut down.

Okay, that was a little bit exaggerated but hey, he'd been a victim of Eloise's rumours. He wasn't even kidding.

When it was his turn for the mug shot, Drewett stood exactly on the middle of the X mark and looked up at the camera. He tried to keep a straight normal face, but he was too conscious and awkward that he was probably the perfect imitation of the eyes emoji.

*sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO!

For the most part, Missa had quietly been scribbling away important notes, and points in the discussion - not really in the mood to chime in. Since it was just that kind of day.

Nonetheless, it all seemed like a grey area to her. None in the class were qualified to deem anyone a dark wizard or not, because as the professor said - many who had done plenty wrong was in the name of some greater good. It was all very very grey to her.

Perhaps that is how Eiji Rasting saw things too. Because what exactly did this chumminess with Trinetta Gladin mean - when he so casually, and often rolled his eyes at the girl as if she was dim witted. A girl who liked Keenan Burton too. Did that not make him mad too? How very grey.

The Ravenclaw quietly observed and wondered.

She also watched as their posters came to be. Oh how cute.

How. very. cute.

Tearing her eyes off from the /chummy/ pals, the fourteen year worked on her own poster. It all came very easy to her.

Trinetta was SUPER smug and proud of her poster. Especially when Eiji's face dropped, and she knew she had struck a nerve with the name. HEHEHEHE. He should be grateful because she could have been a LOT meaner, but she just smirked at him when he said potions would be his weapon of choice. "I figured as much. I know you, Eiji," she said with a playful twinkle in her eye. She'd missed this. Just hanging out with Eiji. Not worrying about ~D R A M A~. It was so nice, and getting easier as time went on. Again, she was reminded it had almost been a YEAR since their big fight, which was amazing to her. She felt like she was different, a more mature person, who was still growing and...

WHAT IN THE NAME OF MERLIN'S PANTS WAS THAT, JAMES EIJI RASTING?!

"EIJI!" she exclaimed, yelling at him in horror but still grinning and managing to let out a surprised chuckle. So much for being NICE to each other! Although let's be real, Nettie was fully expecting something like this. What she had NOT been expecting was the graffiti on her picture, and her crimes were a BIT embellished. Really taking shots at her intelligence there, but she deserved it, honestly. She knew that, deep down. She'd been expecting him to bring up the locket, not Spark, so when she read that bit she felt her heart drop a little, but quickly moved past it.

"Nice to see what you TRULY think of me," she said with a smirk, looking over the report again with a small giggle. "I like the nose ring. Maybe I should get one!" she joked.

Now that they were done, she leaned back and looked around at the posters the rest of her classmates were making. Eloise's poster was spot on for her - not at all surprising. Drew and Nina were still working on theirs, but it looked like Missa was making progress in the row behind them. Hmm, she wondered why she was working alone and not with Keenan. She had assumed Eiji had partnered with her just because she happened to be sitting next to him, but Missa looked...upset.

She peered behind her over her shoulder and read her poster, feeling her heart drop in to her stomach as she read over the words. Wait, an ex? Eiji didn't HAVE an ex, because Missa was his first girlfriend. Yet, in the back of her mind, she KNEW who the poster was referring to. There was no doubt about it.

Nettie immediately had so many questions. Why was this suddenly a PROBLEM? Eiji and Nettie had been friends well before all the drama last term, and had BEEN friends after they made up last year - it wasn't like this was a new development. Missa knew this. Was this something to do with Keenan? She kept replaying the conversation she'd had with her dorm mate when she admitted she'd liked him, and how she'd felt like something had just been...weird about it. Her brain reeled back around to Eiji, and she felt herself getting angry. They were just partnered up on an innocent class activity. Nothing more. Nettie may have done some questionable things in the past when it came to Eiji, but she would NEVER try to insert herself in to their relationship. That was a line she was not going to cross. For her, THAT issue was black and white. There was no reason for her to be angry. She had to know that, right? Eiji had to know that too. Yet why did she feel like the bad guy, AGAIN?

It wasn't fair. Missa had already taken Eiji's attention from her when it came to dating - she did NOT get to take her friendship too.

Yet, rather than say anything, Nettie turned in her chair and stared back down at the poster Eiji had made her. She turned her head away from him and instead focused on a spot on the desk corner. Someone had drawn a star on the wooden desk in the right hand corner, and she just focused on that as her eyes quietly filled up with tears and she tried her best to swallow them away before anyone noticed.

Continuing to write, Analiese slightly jumped when a yell came across the room. This caused her to drop her quill and it fell from her desk. Thank you very much, person who screamed. She bent over to pick it up but she couldn't reach it. The struggles of being short were very difficult to live with. She stood up and walked to where the quill dropped. She picked it up and sat back down at her seat. The young Ravenclaw looked over to the rather chatty side of the classroom and noticed there was a romantic issue going on. Yup, her psychology skills had one of its special moments and she had been looking at an older Ravenclaw girl at the time. Honestly, teenagers were so embarrassing.

Turning back towards the front of the classroom, Analiese continued writing on her poster.

Vivienne leered at Analiese. Psychology was indeed a curious subject.

"Analiese, do you mind telling what is with the poster?" After that she got back to her notes.

SPOILER!!: Drewett

Oh, calling Professor O'Hara a half goblin was definitely funny, though Nina kept her expression neutral as she wasn't very fond of the Hufflepuff who gave that as her answer. But for the record, to all those who said she had no sense of humor, Nina Castillo found it funny.

"Okay," she grinned at Drewett, who stood to take his photo after she had. The Slytherin briefly paused to watch him pose, before giving him her picture and taking his for herself. As she returned back to her seat, however, she realized that she had drawn the short end of the deal. Drewett Slinkhard was one of the best people she knew, surely he wouldn't do anything to be thrown in jail? Nina, on the other hand, could probably murder with her side-eye. But Drewett? Sweet, innocent, kind Drewett? Nina couldn't think of a single thing off the top of her head.

But eventually the idea struck her and she began working on her poster. The activity was far more enjoyable when working on a poster for someone else. Especially for someone she truly cared for.

Quote:
Criminal Report for DREWETT SLINKHARD
Captured on: June 14 2110
Crime committed: THEFT
Detailed analysis: Stealing the hearts of unsuspecting civilians.
Motive: Ruled as unintentional, has no other criminal charges. Simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Very apologetic. Innocent eyes.
Charges: 30 hours of community service.
She wrote him up a criminal report, because he was likely to get caught. No offense, Drewett.

Trinetta was causing a scene, this was... not surprising. The Ravenclaw had a flair for the dramatics. Nina eyed her, unimpressed. She did know they were in the middle of a lesson, yes? Though she didn't doubt that Eiji had done something to provoke her. She wouldn't put it past him.

This was a lot.

A LOT.

Lucas just STARED at Trent as he gave his explanation, half the words not registering in his brain. Uhhhh...... stuck with someone else? He got the feeling that the man was talking about being stuck with someone he didn't like but..... using a love potion? For that?! It seemed lame. Still a bad use of the potion. He placed his chin on his hands, a small frown forming on his face. Trent had brought up a situation, yeah, but now he had even more questions than before. Questions he wanted answering buuuut that wasn't the plan, since the Headmaster was moving on.

Maybe this was a good thing because his head was starting to hurt again.

Getting up from his seat, he moved over to the front and grabbed a piece of parchment before waiting in line for his picture to be taken. He was starting to feel more and more nervous the closer he got towards the X mark because it reminded him way too much of school photos. Did he like school photos? No. Not at all.

More like school photos didn't like his HAIR. He was sure it was not that poofy all the time.

When it was his turn, he subconsciously patted down on his hair befooooore..... uhhhh........ posing? For the picture? Was he meant to pose for this??

Yeah, whatever. He was posing awkwardly.

With the picture ready, he didn't even look at it, but grabbed it and practically ran back to his seat. He hardly even looked at the picture, just stuck it down, placed another parchment over it, and pretended that it didn't exist in the first place. There. Now he could just concentrate on the crime part and not have to focus on the picture.

But that was a problem, wasn't it? He didn't know what crime would suit him.

Sitting back, Lucas looked around, tapping his quill lightly on the desk while he thought. What would he be in Azkaban for? Murder? Probably not. Forget Dementors, his mum would kill him first. Maybe vandalism? Yeah, that sounded decent but vandalism wasn't enough, was it? And it didn't sound like something he would do buuuuut....... maybe he'd just make it up as he goes along?

Yeah. Okay, yeah.

Text Cut:
WANTED: Lucas Sebastian Dakest
CRIME: Vandalism. Property damage. Unleashing potentially dangerous animals onto innocent people. Not listening to higher up people when they say not to scream.
SENTENCE: Imprisonment for at least a while. Animals to be taken away too.

Was this what alternate reality Lucas would do? Because this was a lot braver than anything he could do.

Hearing her name, Analiese looked over to find that Vivienne was asking her a question. " You mean what to do?" She returned to writing on her poster. She held it up and decided she would do a report instead. She tried to detach the picture from her parchment. This took quite a while. When she finally managed to detach the photograph, she fastened it to another piece of parchment and wrote the following underneath her photo.

Quote:
Criminal report for Analiese Allanach-Senchuri

Crime committed: Break of the International Statute of Secrecy
Detailed analysis: Performing the Patronus Charm in front of muggles; reason for casting the charm has not been found
Motive: Unknown
Charges: To be decided at trial on March 11th, 2113

There. "I'm done, Headmaster." Analiese called out, informing Headmaster Trent she had finished. She pulled out her sketchbook and drew a self-portrait.

Vita was smart. She liked to think she was, anyway. No way she'd go around committing crimes for no reason, especially crimes she didn't think she could get away with. That was just the reality of it. Still, she tried to imagine what she wouldn't do to protect Maverick, or Indigo, or any of the family she'd made for herself here or at Stemp House and she just wasn't sure. When it came to people she loved, she sort of had tunnel vision, and that could cloud her judgement, she was sure.

Looking around the room, he noticed that most of his classmates were pairing off. But did he really want to let someone else write what he may or may not have been arrested or wanted for.... NO He looked around and started writing on his own piece of paper.

Hmmm. What would his report be on? Tapping his pen on his lip he tried to think it over... aha he figured it out! Sliding his paper closer to the edge of his desk he began furiously writing.

Ooo, this could be fun. But she totally didn't trust any of her classmates to do hers, oh no. Mainly because she didn't think that they had enough imagination to do her justice, no offense. And looking at the 'antics' going on around her, she was right to think that. 'Hexing boyfriend to oblivion for being chummy with ex'? 'Unforgivables for own amusement? Middle school actions and reasons. And those were just those that she'd been able to spy as she walked back to her desk with her 'mugshot'.

Archer got to thinking. First, this would obviously be at some point in the future, after she'd graduated from Hogwarts. So, no adolescent shenanigans. Now, what kind of shenanigans could her adult (but not really) brain think-"Damn it!" Of course, once the scream ripped through the classroom, she'd sort of messed up her poster. Not enough that a simple, quickly cast charm couldn't fix, but still. It was the principle of the matter. A quick glance told her that none of the Hufflepuffs were involved. So, not her problem. She got back to her assignment, finishing out the motive and sentence rather easily after completing her list of crimes. Now what?

Text Cut: report

Text Version:
Arrest Date: July 4, 2105

Arrest Location: London, England

Crimes: Romantic relations w/ enemy agents, aiding & abetting known criminals, piracy, smuggling, poaching, kidnapping, arson, destruction of property, having mob ties, illegal espionage activities, treason

Motives: That said crimes were committed in her line of work. The suspect also claims that she wasn't the mastermind behind these activities, her boss was. Signed testimony from said boss proves this to be true.

Sentence: Five years in Azakban prison, with five years probation upon release.

Even if she hadn’t been still spiraling a little due to her thoughts about if her father qualified as a dark wizard, or if she wanted to get even worse, one entire side of her family (maybe minus Aunt Nastya), Stasya was bound and determined not to paint herself in the same light. She had a feeling others in the class were going to choose to say they’d done the sort of things that had been actually mentioned during the discussion. Unforgivable curses, killing without remorse…Horcrux-making even. She’d much rather stay true to herself, but the idea of making a wanted poster for herself was still strangely fascinating. If anything, she had a vague idea as to what she might do that would warrant the Ministry coming after her. In short, anything involving creatures.

Once that had been settled, and she’d gone up to collect her parchment and stand for her picture, she returned to her seat with a wealth of ideas at hand. Obviously she wouldn’t be in trouble for doing just one thing, and if she changed her actions during the inferi attack years ago just the slightest bit…

Soon enough, she had what she felt was a rather convincing poster design going, her photo attached near the center as instructed.
SPOILER!!: poster

There was a brief moment of wondering what someone else might have come up with for her, but she felt like she’d done as good of a job at it as she could. Given she still rather had a mental block against anything that really felt close to being truly dark.

Look at that. Nina was using 'okay'. A certain room mate of Drewett's would be pleased to hear that, but he decided not to say that out loud. The Ravenclaw grinned at her response and he was already coming up with the details to put on his poster for Nina. He had quite a few in mind. Drewett knew her well enough to know what certain things would annoy her. He made his way back to his seat, pasted his friend's pouty mug shot on the near top of his parchment—with a charm, of course—and considered his options.

Nina was smart. Drewett knew that, if she wanted to, she would be able to get away with her crimes. And also because he believed she was capable of doing so. Majority of the people in this room probably didn't think she was truly intelligent, and it was a shame they didn't, but Drewett wished everyone else knew. Nina was a lot of good things, despite the personally hilarious details he was writing down on his wanted poster for her.

Hah. The accuracy of this poster made Drewett so amused. "Let me see yours," he turned around to face Nina's desk and let out a good old laugh at his face on a crime report. (She was right, by the way, he would definitely get caught.) Then his eyes quickly scanned the details of his crime and there was a tad bit of confusion mixed with amusement on his face. Stealing hearts. Such a crime. Even if it was supposed to be a crime, it came off as a somehow good thing to him. "I-I feel like such a bad guy," he joked. It was amusing.

Drewett made sure that Nina could see the poster he made for her and he was looking at her expectantly for a reaction. Maybe a laugh, maybe a gentle smack on his arm. He'd laugh too because this was funny and the activity was actually really fun if he didn't take everything way too seriously.

His eyes then fell on the poster Missa created and his facial expressions shifted from amused to uh-oh. Drewett turned around to look for Nettie because, for some reason, he was sure this was about her and Eiji. Even in class, they never failed to cause at least some kind of drama, do they? Truthfully enough, jealous girls were terrifying. "............Sir, I-I'd like to report a dark witch in our class," the Ravenclaw blurted out. And Nettie was gonna cry too?! Help.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

This. Escalated. Quickly.

Malachi watched in something resembling a mixture of horror and "I don't wanna know" as he took the last of the photos then began making his way around the room to see what the students had come up with. Poisonings, ex drama, amusement, no comment on Calrissian's. No, he'd just keep walking and internally facepalming and--

"Slinkhard, I trust you've got firm evidence to base such an accusation off of." What with the whole discussion they'd just had on throwing around such a weighted title. The man glanced about the room, detecting no danger himself but he'd never known the boy to cause a stir...or give a proper joke for that matter. Kid usually seemed a little wound up. Was he just a little too wound up this time around?

He leaned over to look at Allanach-Senchuri's as she said she was done. "You'll need to put the motive." Leaving it as "unknown" was not what the assignment called for.

The Headmaster walked over to the covered pile in the corner and drew the covers away. One by one he levitated a few portraits onto the wall, spacing them evenly enough.

They were magical portraits. One cackled like a mad man--and maybe he was a mad man. One held her nose high and refused to look at the students and the last was a talker, immediately trying to engage everyone in conversation. "Let's move on to the last part of the activity. But first, while walking the room, I noticed some of you didn't add a motive for your crimes. Attach those quickly. Renaldi, I do hope your wand stays in its holster for the remainder of this lesson." Y'know, plausible deniability and all. "Here's what I'd like you all to do. There are three portraits here. Viktor Mikailov,' The man cackling away to his own joke. "Lena Drummond," Who was not at all impressed, "and Patrick Croz."The one who wouldn't shut up. Malachi pointed to each as he spoke. "Now that your brains have hopefully been re-oriented in its way of thinking, I'd like you to pick one. Any one is fine. You will ask only three questions, no more no less. Three. With the three answers, I want your assessment on this person's status of guilt. Remain in that Law Enforcement frame of mind, but keep in mind everything we've discussed. Again I don't mind you working with others BUT regardless of how many you work with, the cap is still three questions." So a pair didn't have 6 questions, they still had only 3.

He wouldn't tell them what any of the portraits did, he wouldn't tell them the outcome of any investigations. They had three questions and they would need to use them wisely. "Write your assessment at the back of your wanted posters before handing them in." Time for them to put their brains to work. Decide what was important and what information they could do without to essentially make judgements of a person's character.

OOC: This is the last portion of the lesson. It's an interview of sorts, more closely related to an investigation but your students can only ask a max of three questions before deciding the portraits "dark" status. You can have them ask all three at once or spread them through posts. you can work alone or with others, however you want to play this out. They can ask any questions they think may reveal more about the portraits character. I'll close the lesson on June 15 @ 11:59 am EST. Until then I'll be around to play the portraits and of course Malachi is still around. Poke me if you've got any questions ^^

He had pushed more than a few buttons and he was beyond pleased with himself, hardly even flinching when Trinetta shouted his name like that. And he hadn't even included any digs about poultry. There was a lot that he could say in response - namely that she seemed to be entirely missing the point of this being a satire of sorts and not at all the truth. Just...loosely based on it if you were to squint and look at it sideways. Propaganda at its finest.

Satisfied with the outcome, Eiji looked over the poster for anything else he may need to add when he felt some very...VERY...pointed eyes drilling into the back of his skull. Which, naturally, meant he needed to peer around and see who it was. Needless to say, he had not been expecting Missa to be the one sending those his way and it just made him replay their argument over again in his head. Despite how angry it all still made him and how frustrated he was by the whole situation...it only made him miss her. His Missa.

That sadness, however, soon shifted a bit when his eyes fell on the poster Missa was creating for herself. Enough of a shift that the corner of his lips twitched ever so slightly to smirk. Validated and smug, Eiji found himself far too pleased with what he was able to read from her parchment - though he would have corrected her on the fact that he had no ex if it were not for the fact that suddenly Trinetta was looking the other way.

Um. What?

Some of that smugness wiped off his face, he glanced back and forth between the two Ravenclaws. A pickle of a situation he had found himself in previously as well...only different girls. Or, well, different combinations of two different girls given the day.

Unaware that Trinetta was crying but acutely aware that Missa was livid (he all too often found her anger and frustration to be attractive, it was real and outside of the sweet cookie cutter norm), he couldn't help but cast continual glances over towards her. And then he heard that one bloke claim that he was going to report a Dark witch to the Headmaster. Um...no one had said anything about role playing in class and that sounded all too tedious. Eiji did not feel like playing auror today, thanks. Which is why he rolled his eyes and offered the Ravenclaw bloke a cursory look..only to see that his line of sight was directed towards Miss, hiss girlfriend.

Moron. Utter and complete moron who wasn't even remotely humorous to boot. This Drewidiot wasn't even trying to illustrate the notion of false accusations either, just freaked out by the look Missa had on her face. Couldn't account for taste, he supposed.
Oh. And before he forgot...he needed to add the motive on his poster for Trinetta too. Which was easy enough and Missa had already provided the wording.

Quote:
MOTIVATION: A WOMAN SCORNED
Though there was no time to really react to anything otherwise, nor comment on the other offerings of his classmates, as the headmaster moved things along. Lucky for that bloke. Eiji was ready to give him a bit of a tongue lashing for that comment.

Slinkhard? Was that his last name. But yes, DO stumble over your words some more in just how HIS GIRLFRIEND was a Dark witch. And, because this was how the general opinion painted them how she was evil. Go ahead, tell the headmaster. Let's see if you make it on to Eiji Rasting's list.

Agitated all over again, and finding this activity more than a bit frustrating, Eiji gave Trinetta a unknowing nudge with his elbow - since he was still unaware that she was, well, crying. "Seems a bit of a dodgey activity, don't you think? Portraits only know who they are based on what they are told by the person who painted them and others. Hardly a reliable source," he grumbled while grabbing a spare piece of parchment. "Likely make more headway in the investigation by asking questions about the artist."

It was all about perception. Of which...Eiji had very little of at the moment, clearly.

Glancing over again, Eiji beckoned his hand for Missa to join. They could be a group of three, right? One question each and be done. Everyone won.

Well, that escalated rapidly. Very rapidly.

Analiese grabbed her quill and rewrote the motive on her report. She didn't notice that her handwriting was hardly readable. And that's when her ink pot toppled over. Her elbow had accidentally hit it when she was writing. The ink spilt all over her parchment and her robes. What a dramatic lesson. She slowly raised her hand. "Headmaster, I uh... spilt my ink pot." She wiped the ink off her hands using a clean part of her robes. The young Ravenclaw returned the ink pot to its usual position and picked up her quill. She grabbed a spare piece of parchment and did the next activity. She chose Viktor Mikailov and tried to think of a suitable question.

If Nettie was REALLY feeling vicious, after she got a few tears out of the way, she would have turned up the charm on Eiji just to spite her. So Missa thought they were getting chummy, huh? Well, a few well placed arm brushes and hair flips and loud laughs could definitely irritate the fellow Ravenclaw. The best part would be that Eiji would likely be oblivious to what she was doing or would know exactly what she was doing and be just as furious as Missa. But no, Nettie had evolved past that. That was petty drama that third year Trinetta would have partaken in. That would do nothing but aggravate the situation. Besides, Nettie had no desire to do any of that. All she'd been doing was having fun with her friend in class - and now she was crying. She was angry, yes, but she was becoming aware that acting on her angry impulses did nothing to help the situation. It just made her feel worse. Especially if it made Eiji feel bad.

Although, she couldn't help but remember that she still had that portable rain cloud bundled up in the canister under her bed...a little water in her bed for a bit of payback wouldn't harm Missa if she kept pushing Nettie's buttons...

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Drew call out to Trent that there was a dark witch in their class. At first she thought that she'd missed the introduction to some role playing aspect of class - but instead, she turned to see him looking at Missa. Interesting turn of events...if her eyes weren't filled with tears right now, she would have shot him an appreciative look. Instead, the gesture just made her want to cry even more. Part of it was because it was nice of him to come to her rescue like that (at least, she assumed that was what he was trying to do?) but also because now...she was embarrassed. Because someone had seen the poster and it was very obvious WHO the poster was referring to.

Look out everyone, here comes Trinetta Gladin, psycho ex trying to steal back her man. That's what the poster was REALLY saying, and the insinuation that she would do such a thing hurt even more than Missa's sudden problem with her friendship with Eiji.

She heard Trent explain the next part of the lesson - her eyes still trained on the star doodle in the corner of her desk as she tried to swallow the lump in her throat - but she didn't quite register it until Eiji nudged her. They had to interview portraits and determine their innocence. Seemed simple enough, but that required TALKING and moving around, which meant she had to take care of this crying problem. She blinked and wiped her eyes quickly, hoping he wouldn't notice how wet her robes were as she pulled her arms away, and looked at him with red eyes.

"What?" she blinked as she played back what he had said in her brain. "OH, right," she cleared her throat a bit, pushing back the last of those tears and refocusing. Come on Trinetta. There'd be time to cry and feel sorry for yourself later. "I think we'll have good luck if we try to ask them questions they can't simply say yes or no to. Open ended," she explained. Slowly but surely, she was pushing her emotions to the back corner of her brain. "Like, instead of "what have you been accused of" we should say things like "what actions led you to be arrested" because then they can't argue their innocence as much, you know? Get them to state the simple facts of what they did. Then we can determine if they're guilty or not," she told him. "I get where you're going with the painter aspect of it, but we're supposed to determine their guilt, not whether or not the painter was biased against the subject," she pointed out with a small smile. Leave it to him to approach it from that angle.

WAIT WHAT. NO. NO NO NO. She did NOT want Missa joining their group. She was NOT welcome in this activity as far as Nettie was concerned. But was she going to say no? Tell Eiji he COULDN'T invite his girlfriend to work with them? Of course not. Instead, she just turned back to her poster and gathered her quill, ignoring Missa entirely. She wasn't going to make a scene if she joined their group. It was hopefully a subtle enough cold shoulder to let her know that she had seen the poster and she was NOT happy about it.
