catch up + open to working with a partner or two!

Avalon aimlessly twirled her quill as she racked her brain. She had gotten her picture taken and had her parchment ready to go, but she couldn't think of a crime. What would she get arrested for? She couldn't imagine ever committing a crime -- she was typically such a rule follower. But she did have a reckless streak when it came to protecting her family or standing up for what she believed in. Come to think of it, her grandfather had told her about some wizards that had rescued magical creatures from captivity or abuse. Although the men had saved the animals, they had technically disobeyed the law by stealing. She could maybe see herself doing that if it meant freeing some animals from bad situations. Putting her quill to her parchment, she began to scribble down her thoughts.

SPOILER!!: Parchment

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WITCH?
Wanted For: Theft of various magical creatures such as kneazles, puffskeins, and hippogriffs
Possible Motive: Claims that creatures were being "mistreated"
Any information leading to the arrest of this woman shall be duly rewarded.
Notify immediately by owl the Ministry of Magic.

She considered adding the typical "approach with extreme caution" line, but truthfully, that probably wouldn't be on her wanted poster. After all, she was a clever witch, but wouldn't perform any dangerous magic unless she was in direct harm's way. She probably wouldn't resist arrest either, as she would welcome the opportunity to defend herself in wizard court. Avalon was fairly confident that she could build a convincing case for herself.

Sliding her parchment to the corner of her desk upon finishing, Avalon glanced up at Headmaster Trent waving his wand at some magical portraits. So now they were going to act as inquisitors? But what were the crimes? Perhaps it was up to them to find out. Judging by the personalities of the portraits, all three of them were irritating. Viktor was acting utterly insane, Lena looked plainly unapproachable, and Patrick's voice was already getting on her nerves. Which person should she question? She looked over her shoulder as she approached the portraits to see if there were any other students who wanted to work together. Avalon felt like this activity might be more successful with teamwork.

SilverTiger 06-12-2019 06:27 AM

There hadn’t been any specific comment directed toward her and her poster, yet Stasya had tilted her head the slightest bit at the mention of how a lot of them hadn’t included a motive with their work. Plus, there had been that whole incident with Drew and the other lightly younger students. Accusations of someone actually being a dark witch, which brought her back to the earlier possible accusation that Jessa and her necromancy was inherently dark. There couldn’t be any real evidence as to if either girl was actually practicing the Dark Arts. Not that she particularly knew the girl in question this time around. Either way, she figured they were probably as dark as her.

There really wasn’t any space on her poster to include a motive, either. Granted, with what she’d chosen as her “crime” she wasn’t entirely certain the motive wasn’t inferred, but just to fulfill the assignment she flipped her poster around and wrote on the back, near the top of the parchment.

SPOILER!!: addition
Anastasiya’s Motive: Protection of creatures and belief in their right to be free to do what they were meant to do

Now it was time to focus on the portraits. She was rather wary of speaking to any of them, for their own reasons. Viktor seemed rather mad, Lena scarier than her grandmother Xenia on a bad day and she was fairly sure she wouldn’t get a word in edgewise with Patrick. So that meant she had to figure out not only what questions to ask but which one would be the most likely to bother to answer.

DaniDiNardo 06-12-2019 08:30 AM

The fact that none had immediately jumped into interrogating the portraits would be taken as a good sign that the students were taking the time to consider all angles now that they had a better idea of the real distinctions where magic were concerned. Some were finding partners.

And some were making a mess in his classroom...

Well, that escalated rapidly. Very rapidly.

Analiese grabbed her quill and rewrote the motive on her report. She didn't notice that her handwriting was hardly readable. And that's when her ink pot toppled over. Her elbow had accidentally hit it when she was writing. The ink spilt all over her parchment and her robes. What a dramatic lesson. She slowly raised her hand. "Headmaster, I uh... spilt my ink pot." She wiped the ink off her hands using a clean part of her robes. The young Ravenclaw returned the ink pot to its usual position and picked up her quill. She grabbed a spare piece of parchment and did the next activity. She chose Viktor Mikailov and tried to think of a suitable question.

Malachi moved over to the first year, eyes on the stain she'd created rather than on her. "So you have." He cringed at the way she wiped her inky hand against her now ink covered robe, hardly able to fight the grimace. That was no way to treat school uniforms. "You'll ruin the robe if you keep that up."

At her desk, the Headmaster drew his wand and vanished the ink. He didn't remember the curriculum First Years learned but he'd assume she hadn't yet learned the cleaning charm. That would be the only explanation for her not simply drawing her own wand--and destroying her school robes.

Next he looked to where the ink soaked the parchment and got onto the desk. A quick scourgify saw that clean too. "Do be more careful in future." The fact messes could be easily fixed didn't mean they should be easily made.

If Missa was a mind reader, she would have addressed everything Nettie was thinking. Because no, this was not about her. At All. This was about Eiji Rasting. And if it had been about Nettie, she would have made it the poster too - she would have been hexed to oblivion too.

Which is why, she felt even more ANNOYED when Eiji seemed AMUSED by the entire thing - also wait what did DREW JUST SAY? The brunette cast a glare his way, oblivious to Nettie's cold shoulder - because once again THIS WAS NOT ABOUT HER.

When the headmaster started speaking again, she scribbled away some more notes - also adding in the comments below Eiji's name again and again, only to strike it away. It only added to her annoyance some more when the headmaster told her to keep her wand away. Blushing stupidly, and cheeks puffing out - she lowered her head further in to her poster - and refrained from mumbling that she didn't even have her wand out in the first place.

Could this class end already? She wanted to go back to her dorm and maybe cry into her pillow.

Thankfully the next part of the lesson didn't necessary involve all that interaction - so no, she would not be joining the little group Eiji was beckoning her at. She simply ignored the boy, and looked down at her book - PRETENDING to not notice the offer altogether. So, you are welcome, Nettie.

lazykitty 06-12-2019 10:44 AM

Honestly, Archer was eyeing the relationship drama with a hint of amusement, despite thinking how juvenile it was. Especially when the other Ravenclaw called one of the girls a dark witch. Said girl did, after all, look like she was ready to curse the Slytherin boy whom all this seemed to be about to oblivion. And that's why Ravenclaws had the reputation for being the most dramatic people in the castle.

Anyway, on to what she was actually supposed to be doing. It didn't seem like any of the portraits were poised to give them much information at all. What to ask to make them open up.....about their crimes that is. That 'Patrick' seemed ready to talk about anything but....

sweetpinkpixie 06-12-2019 03:02 PM

What Trinetta was saying about the portraits made sense, a lot of sense, but honestly Eiji was hardly listening as his attention was drawn unequivocally towards the brunette behind them. The one that was doing that thing he hated more than almost anything else in the world: ignoring and pointedly avoiding him.

Why was she refusing to join them? Why wasn't she even LOOKING at him? Why? So much why?

His chest sunk a bit that there was a nagging, lingering, pain there that he couldn't place. But it hurt. It hurt a lot.

Turning his head back towards Trinetta in defeat, he slouched a bit in his chair and dropped his quill with disinterest on to the parchment. "Yeah. Sounds about right," he grumbled. Naturally, he couldn't resist taking ANOTHER look over his shoulder at Missa and for the briefest of moments - he would blame the overall discussion - he understood how one could wish to cast Imperio on a person. He just wanted her to LOOK at him.

Turning back again, Eiji picked up his quill and attacked his parchment. Poking holes in it as he wrote from the unnecessary pressure he applied as he wrote, he scribbled down Trinetta's suggestion and was done with that. Fine. Moving on. "Maybe ask if they feel any remorse," he added bitterly.

Nordic Witch 06-12-2019 04:58 PM

Catching up Q2 + mini activity.

Ellie sat and scribbled on her parchment when Headmaster Trent summarized so far and threw them all another question which was considerably harder to answer than the first one. She debated long and hard about answering at all. Many of her peers answer’s hadn’t exactly made her less confused. In the end though Ellie tentatively raised her hand and said "The intent, actions and reasons separates a dark wizard from a curious man in my mind. If you just read dark scrolls and textbooks to gain a bigger knowledge of the dark side and to know how dark wizards think and you use that for good purposes/actions if your saying working for law enforcement in some way then you are not a dark wizard in my book. If you read dark scrolls and texts and then use that knowledge to commit bad crimes like murdering people or creatures with unforgivable curses, potions and charms then you are a bad dark wizard that needs to be brought to justice." If that rambling made any sense Ellie didn’t know.

:::::::::::::::::::::.

Several minutes later they got started on the mini activity. Ellie was not amused at all by needing to taking a mug shot. She did though step up in line to get her picture taken just like everyone else. Back at her desk she started to brainstorm up a dark witch report. Ellie wanted to do hers on her own and not with a partner because it was more fun. After sticking her quill into her ink pot she put the quill to her parchment and began writing a completely fictional dark witch report for her bad criminal self.

SPOILER!!: Report

Eleanor Smethwyck
DEPARTMENT OF MAGICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
DARK WITCH REPORT

Ms. Smethwyck was apprehended today in Diagon Alley’s Magical Menagerie by law enforcement officers after trying to sell off her breeded and experimented on dark creatures that she thought we’re absolutely adorable and much better than average. To onlooker’s the kneazles and fire-crabs looked like distorted versions of themselves and suffering from excruciating pain. Many creatures we’re later found in her flat both dead and living in bad experimental and torture conditions.

Known Crimes:
Breeding of dark creatures with normal species
Nasty creature experimentation
Using dark charms and curses to apply torture to creatures

Ms Smethwyck was sent to Azkaban to serve a 30 year long sentence for her crimes.

When she was finished she put her quill down and read over her report. Ellie couldn’t help but laugh to herself as she did so. It was something that was never going to become a reality. She was an absolute creature lover and she would never submit any creature no matter how small or big to any type of torture or experimentation. It would go against everything her mother had taught her.

You could feel the tension sizzling in the air and Eloise was all for it. Drew made it worse which for Eloise made it all the better. Was she supposed to talk to some portraits or something she wasn't completely playing attention to the Headmaster because well looking between Eiji and Nettie and Missa was time consuming enough as it is.

Well she was going pick the craziest looking one and ask why. It was a toss up between the two dudes. So up she goes with her wanted poster and over to Croz mostly because he wouldn't stop talking and would probably answer her question the best. Once she got the chance

"Hey, Yo Mr. Croz. I want to ask why you did it?"

You know what it is he did. Must have been cool at least.

gritandgrace 06-12-2019 08:19 PM

Eniola got to work to be able to make her poster. It really didn't take as long as she was expecting. It was actually interesting to think of herself in that light when normally she's so focused on becoming a Healer. Sooner than later she had the poster ready.

SPOILER!!: Wanted Poster

Looking at the portraits as they moved on to the walls she cringed. She definitely wasn't going to be talking to Croz anytime soon. No, she found herself much more drawn to the woman - Drummond.

Walking forward she greeted the woman, being friendly but blunt. "Hello, my name is Eniola. You can call me Eni should you wish. I just have a few questions for you." She brought her pen to her notebook, ready to take notes in anticipation for the answers. "What crime did they say you committed? What evidence did they have against you? And why do you believe they said you were guilty or not guilty?"

Eni was hoping to catch her up with the last question to find out the biases as well as the charge, but who knows what this woman is used to or was told bny the Headmaster. She just hoped she'd get the answers she needed.

hermionesclone 06-12-2019 10:15 PM

Interviewing portraits?

Lucas didn't know how to feel about this. It was...... interesting, yeah, but he was sure that he would ask the wrong questions or make them think he was weird. Or, even worse, come up with the wrong assessment for the person. What if he sent an innocent person to jail? WHAT THEN?!

Oh Merlin, he was starting to sweat already.

Breathe. Breathe. Step one was only picking one of the portraits, right? Well, he knew which one he didn't want to go to. Lena Drummond looked like she didn't want to be disturbed soooo that was out. And a lot of people were now walking to Patrick Croz for some reason so....... Viktor? Mikailov? Yeah. Viktor Mikailov, we're coming to you.

Grabbing a spare piece of parchment and a quill, he walked right over towards the portrait. Had he stopped sweating? No. But the portrait didn't need to know that. Now? Now he just needed to ask questions. Questions..... he didn't even....... prepare.

Uhhhhh. "Hey. Hi. Hello." What do Law Enforcement say? "How's your day?"

Wait, was that....?

"No no no, that wasn't a question! That was not a question!!"

Oh Merlin.

Lissy Longbottom 06-12-2019 10:26 PM

The dramazzz

Nettie was starting to get a pounding headache from all the pent up tears, and it didn't help as Missa completely ignored them and continued with her work on her own. After her little stunt, Nettie didn't care in the slightest. But she saw how Eiji's shoulders had fallen when Missa ignored them, and she would have been blind to see that there was something going on between them. Perhaps that meant it really DIDN'T have anything to do with her. Still, that didn't mean Missa had to call her out like that in front of class with the poster.

Whatever their trouble was, Nettie hated seeing any of her friends upset. Even though she was just as upset and embarrassed right now. She had to focus on other problems, because hers was relatively small in retrospect.

"It's ok, just talk to her later," she whispered as she put a comforting hand on his arm, noting as Eiji began to take out his frustrations on his parchment. She took her own parchment and examined the portraits, deciding on Viktor Mikailov. The woman looked like she would be too challenging - maybe not if they were both in their right minds, but it was quite obvious the pair of them had other things on the brain. Croz wouldn't stop TALKING, and that was just annoying. So Mikailov was the logical choice.

She cleared her throat. "What have you been accused of, Mr. Mikailov?" she asked the portrait.

PhoenixRising 06-12-2019 11:00 PM

What is this? It was her homework. Probably from two weeks ago, but it was her Defense homework, irregardless. Moving on though because they were apparently talking about what makes someone a dark wizard. This was a question that her aunt would have loved. But intent didn't necessarily mean anything?? Sure you had to have intent to use dark magic effectively, but sometimes you weren't aware of what you were doing. Sometimes, YOU were under the guise of dark magic - aka the imperius curse - and you couldn't help yourself. Sometimes you were literally just brainwashed into doing what you thought was the right thing. Sometimes your brain was thinking too much and class was moving on without you.

Oh, wait, class was moving on.

Unforgivable curses were forgiveable to end violence and wrongdoing? Did that mean there were exceptions to every rule? Did that make DEATH okay if it was used against a truly bad person? What defined a bad person anyway? Should some items maybe not be in existence because they were truly bad? Where did she draw the line? She wouldn't kill. She probably wouldn't even torture. She would ... chewing at the end of of her quill, she frowned. Behavior modification is what she would do. Which was that ....... could she do that post-Hogwarts? Was that something she could focus on?? This was the first time, when Maeve Walsh actually thought of post-Hogwarts.

Wow.

They were making wanted posters now. Or a report for if they actually got caught. What was going on with the looks across the room from those fourth years?? Maeve glanced around for Kamryn or Anna but sighed, figuring it was best if she just made her own poster. Although Anna's would probably be something like "Playing Quidditch too intensely, sending another player to the hospital". And Kamryn would probably be something dramatic, knowing her Hufflepuff best friend. Something related to relationships too.

But what did Maeve Walsh do?? Ah, she was running out of time, so the sixth year quickly just wrote the first thing to come to mind.

WANTED
AURELIA MAEVE WALSH

ACCUSED CRIME: Standing Idly By While Others Were Harmed
MOTIVE: To Remain Undetected
CONSEQUENCES: 180 days of Community Service

Huh. That actually seemed believable.

Now it was onto interviewing the portraits? Three questions to ask to maybe get them to reveal what they did. What would make her spill the beans? Actually she wasn't one for keeping secrets, so maybe.... use Kam again. What would she do to get Kam to talk? Other than tickle her silly. Cause she couldn't exactly tickle a portrait.... well she could, but that would be inappropriate as an investigator. She could just flat out ask, "What did you do?" just to gauge their response.

Fireheart 06-13-2019 01:04 AM

Glancing from portrait to portrait, Avalon tried to gauge which person would be the best to interrogate. Her first bet was Mikailov, but several students were already surrounding him. So it was down to Drummond and Croz. Drummond looked like she would be a tough nut to crack. Her glare was a bit intimidating. While Croz was the most annoying of the three, he was talking the most, which made her think that he might be the most apt to give her some answers. She approached him slowly and gave him a curt nod before clearing her throat. The first step would be discovering what exactly he did. And she had a feeling that politeness would be key here. Treating him like a criminal already wouldn't get her anywhere. "Good day, Mr. Croz. What is it that you have been accused of?"

SneakySeverusSnape 06-13-2019 01:25 AM

"I will, Headmaster." Analiese apologised to the Headmaster. She then picked up her purse of parchment and quill. She walked over Lena Drummond because there were too many students around her first choice, Viktor Mikailov. She cleared her throat and began to speak. "Hello, Ms. Drummond. I just need to ask you a few questions. Do you regret commiting the crime that the Law Enforcement accused you of?" The young Ravenclaw wrote her first question down and chewed on the end of her quill as she waited for an answer.

ArianaBlack 06-13-2019 03:17 AM

drewett

She did say okay and immediately after the word left her mouth she felt like convulsing. Keenan Burton had ruined the word for everyone, but he especially ruined it for Nina Castillo. Let that be known. As Nina continued working on her report for Drewett, she stole glances over at his work. The only issue being the fact that her eye site was not at it’s best right now (and she as she refused to wear her glasses), she couldn’t exactly make out the words from a brief over the shoulder glance.

At his request, Nina held the report out so that he could take a look. She was glad that his reaction was not a negative one and when he cracked his joke, she couldn’t help but wear a tiny grin. ”The worst,” but he wasn’t though. He was one of the best people she knew. It’s why coming up with a crime for him was SO difficult. He wouldn’t ever do anything bad, she was sure of it. Then when it was his turn to show Nina his poster, the Slytherin squinted a little to read the words. There was a long pause as her eyes moved across the page.

Until she got to the end.

And yes, her grin grew more and more sheepish as she read. Because he had nailed it. The poster was incredibly accurate, if not slightly dramatic for comedic effect. ”Headmaster Trent is never going to look at me the same way ever again.” Perhaps he’d be impressed? At least she wasn’t a pushover, you know?

She only lost focus for a few seconds before her attention returned back to Drewett, who had just called Missa a dark witch in front of the whole class. Eiji was not going to like that, Nina was sure of that much, though she knew the Ravenclaw hadn’t said it to be mean. He always had the best intentions at heart.

The fourth year had picked up on the drama that was clearly unfolding within the confines of this classroom and she decidedly ignored all of it. She was here to learn. And that was that. To be honest, she was kind of disappointed in the three who were stirring all of this up in the middle of class. There was a time and place. With that in mind, she turned back to Drewett. ”Want to interrogate Lena Drummond with me?” Because Nina could relate to the unimpressed look she wore. It only felt right to talk to her.

Lena kept her nose held high, barely sparing the girl a glance when she walked over. She sniffed at the Hufflepuff but a look from the Headmaster saw her relenting. When she spoke it was brisk and without emotion. "Human experiments. They found equipment in my living room and blew it into a whole case." She shrugged indifferently. "Last I heard they were all divided. Only half think I'm innocent or guilty. I couldn't say why."

Merlin how long would she have to suffered this? Paraded for the sake of children who weren't likely to accomplish nearly as much as she had in life.

Lena turned her head away even as she answered. "I don't regret anything. What have I got to be sorry about? My research is simply light years ahead of society's so called moral code and why should I regret something they have no proof of?"

Samia 06-13-2019 10:23 AM

Now that she was looking away entirely and was unaware of what Nettie and Eiji may be doing - the girl tried, really tried to just focus on the lesson - so it would end and she could go away.

But since her thoughts were still very much spiralling, she couldn't really come up with any questions besides the simple .... 'WHY' - thankfully though, other students started asking questions, and it gave a little more into the personality of the portrait people.

Croz certainly thought he was a guy who was doing the wrong for all the right reasons. And it didn't seem like he felt any remorse.

Drummond? She just felt like someone who had emotions stripped out of her. Perhaps she didn't even know any different between right or wrong.

And Viktor? Well he was just crazy. And guilty. CLEARLY.

Nevertheless, of the three - Missa decided she wanted to question Drummond, and after scribbling away some questions, she finally found herself asking, "Did you feel any satisfaction - or lets say pleasure in doing these human experiments?"

Again, she was right. Drewett could never say "okay" without thinking that the word was patented or copyrighted by Keenan. It never particularly bothered her as much as it obviously bothered Nina, but he could never say the word the same way ever again. That wasn't even an exaggeration.

The worst. Those words would have hurt him, but Drewett knew that it was a joke. Instead, he grinned at her. Big and genuine. "You d-don't have to hurt me like that, Nina Castillo," the Ravenclaw joked again. He was full of many jokes today. He had to contain the laugh that was forcing itself out his mouth when she expressed her concern about the Headmaster. Please. "Well, he isn't Keenan so I-I like to think he'll be safe from being strangled." Hah, more jokes. He was in a mood today.

And speaking of jokes, his own previous joke bit him hard on the backside because the dark witch comment had backfired unexpectedly. Drewidiot Drewett's eyes were slightly wide when he caught the eye roll from Eiji and the glare from Missa. There was Nettie's face too, and he suddenly felt really bad about everything. He ducked his head to avoid more reactions. His intuition was right. Jealous girls were scary. Or, to be more accurate, girls were scary. Not that Eiji was a girl. He was clearly a guy. It was just...okay, nevermind. Reader, you get the point. "Sorry, headmaster..." he muttered under his breath. No. No dark witch. He was sure Missa was capable of wild things with her wand, but she was no dark witch. It was the primetime to be eaten by the ground again. He made it a point to apologize to Missa when he could see her, and maybe without Eiji around because Drewett felt he was the type to punch him on the face (or worse). His joking mood was gone now, flushed down the loo.

He was grateful that Nina grabbed his attention again. Merlin knew just how deep Drewett's thought could get when he started overthinking. It'd be a pit too dark and deep, like Tartarus in Greek mythology. Unable to crawl out of it. Sometimes terrifying. "Of course," the Ravenclaw replied as he slipped out of his seat again. He glanced at the other two portraits. He decided he didn't want to interview Mr. Mikailov or Mr. Croz. They intimidated Drewett and creeped him out a bit too much, especially Mr. Mikailov's laugh. It echoed and sent chills down his spine. Nope, not him. "I-I'd like to suggest we ask her about her crime, motives, what she felt...." He trailed off. Something about interviewing people just spoke so much about the interviewee's character, and it wasn't just with the verbal responses but also with how they moved and if their lips twitched at the mention of a certain word.

Drewett paused for a moment to consider things. "You should ask first. I th-think you'll understand one another." The unimpressed and indifferent look on Ms. Drummond's face reminded him of...well, Nina. Not the Nina he knew personally, but the Nina who disliked girls named Eloise, Céline, and Karlin. He figured their interaction would be interesting.

Eni found herself listening in on the other questions students were asking Drummond. After all, the Headmaster never said anything against that. She couldn’t help that she was conveniently sitting close enough to the portraits that she could hear everything. She’ll just sit here and listen.

The unimpressed and indifferent look on Ms. Drummond's face reminded him of...well, Nina. Not the Nina he knew personally, but the Nina who disliked girls named Eloise, Céline, and Karlin. He figured their interaction would be interesting.

"I knew you could handle it," she replied back, with a grin. He was in a good mood. So was she. Though her high spirits probably had to do with Drewett's influence at the moment. Nina didn't typically like pairing up with others in class if she could help it. Most of her classmates were entirely incompetent and she didn't want them to see that she knew what she was doing. But she was glad to be working with Drewett today. That and having a theory based lesson in Defense was a nice change. Nina didn't mind the wand work either, but she very much appreciated how Headmaster Trent sprinkled some history into their lesson today. Again, the Slytherin turned her attention to her partner, wearing a look of amusement on her face. "You make a good point." Though it wasn't strangling the Professor that she was worried about, it was about how he'd look at her if she strangled anyone. She liked being in his good books. He was so pretty.

Despite the fact that Nina did not care for the drama that was so evidently happening within the room, she did notice the change in Drewett's demeanor. And his ducked head. "I knew you were joking, Drewett," she whispered in attempt to be reassuring. "I don't think they're actually upset." And if they were it had nothing to do with the older Ravenclaw. It most likely had to do with what went down between the fourth year trio. But that was far too much to touch upon at the moment and they had a lesson to continue.

Drewett seemed ready to move on too, as he began suggesting an approach for the interrogation. Nina nodded along in agreement. Crime and motive was a good starting point. Though his second comment received a POINTED look! "Hey!" And a light shove. He was feeling very cheeky today. She kind of liked it. SHhhhh. She stood up from her desk and waited until Drewett did the same before walking over to the portrait with him.

Taking a moment to clear her thoughts, the Slytherin cleared her throat before speaking. "Hello, I'm Nina and he is Drewett," in all honest, she was kind of hoping that Drewett's charm would woo Lena so that she'd be less stingy with her answers. They only had three questions, every little bit helped. Besides, no one could resist those eyes right? It's why everyone at Hogwarts was practically head over heels in love with the boy. Hopefully that would work to their advantage today. That and Nina knew herself to be not-so-great with other women. "We'd like to know about your conviction. What exactly were you charged for and why did you do it?" Technically speaking, it was one question.

"Don't want people thinking you are getting soft. I got ya" Eloise shook her head while a story about him swimming would be hilarious with the way he talks she still had two more questions to ask and the next one was quite clever if she so thinks so herself.

"I'm good but I have another question..If you could go back in time like the muggles think you can not with a time-turner. What would you change to not get caught?"

See she already found out from someone others question about what he actually got caught doing and figured it was creatures from how insane he is. Eloise was growing found of the old painting.

"I killed them dead." Hehehehe!! "Oh but they wanted it, they did." Hehe. Hehehehe. "I only obliged!"

Oh bloody hell. On top of everything else he and Trinetta had to be talking to the loudest of the portraits. This was just not Eiji Rasting's day and he found himself even more desperate for class to be over. His hazel-green eyes couldn't help but glance over at Missa, feeling a little too keen to listen in on her conversation with the portrait. Not because he bought into Drewidiot's analysis of his girlfriend being a Dark witch...but because he was curious as to how her upset would play into her interrogation.

But the insufferable voice of Mikailov made him miss anything said by the brunette entirely.

Well fine. He supposed he would just have to focus on this task then.

Tugging on Trinetta's sleeve a moment, to pull her back a bit from the portrait so they could discuss without it selectively deciding that something in their discussion counted as a question, he muttered a few things directly into her ear. "Just because he killed someone doesn't mean he is Dark, just guilty of a crime," he pointed out. "Without any influence of Dark Arts in his actions, he is not any different than some muggle charged with manslaughter." Simply facts, really. "But clearly he is guilty." And, honestly, insane.

Calmly, he stepped in front of the Ravenclaw and eyed the portrait.

"How did you accomplish this...wish fulfillment as you put it?" he inquired cautiously.

Avalon's eyes widened slightly at the man's long response. He surely liked to talk, that was certain. "No, sir, I haven't seen a manticore before. But they seem quite fascinating," she said, trying as best as possible to play along. She didn't really have an answer for his question, but she gave him a slight nod to let him know that she was paying attention.

But this task was proving to be a bit more difficult that she imagined. She only had two questions left, and she still was unsure of what this man exactly did. It had something to do with smuggling creatures across continents. But she needed to find out how and why he did it. "What was your motivation for doing this?" It was a little blunt, but she couldn't think of a better way to ask...and she figured that the man wouldn't mind. Lena sniffed disdainfully at this new student, too. Their questions bored her. They were not the sort she cared for. When the Headmaster explained his reason for borrowing them, it had almost been enough to peak her interest but this...them...

"New discoveries are always something to be enjoyed. Figuring out answers to complicated questions that no one else will dare ask, what researcher wouldn't feel good? If feeling good about your work a crime now?"

Her research was bold. It was genius. It was years ahead of its time but it was valuable.

Introductions? "I don't care." The only things flatter than her voice were her eyes as they took in the Ravenclaw-Slytherin pair. She was Lena Drummond, what use did she have for the names of two school aged children? She supposed she'd just answer to get rid of them. "Human experimentation. They called them unethical, I called them progress toward a better future. I did it for science. In the name of discovery and finding answers."

Viktor was mid cackle when the boy informed him the hat was hair. Hair?? BWAHAHAHAHAHAA!! Hair! Hair! It was hair!! Why was that so funny? Don't ask him, the man was simply beside himself with laughter.

Somehow he managed to stop at the next set of words to leave the kid's lips. "Secret? That's a secret?? That's your big secret??? I have bigger secrets!!!" HAHA. Hehehehehee!! "I never really swallow my potions. Hehe. I'm so bad sometimes. They tell me to, but I have my waaaayyyssss." Was that the story he meant, because that was how he interpreted it. "Don't tell anyone."

Question number 2 gone!

Teeheeheee! It was all "coming back to him" in ways only a portrait could "remember" and it absolutely tickled his painted ribs. "Different ways to be sure! The killing curse is too quick.
