| | |  Beater Tryouts
 The early morning greets you with the the fluttering of birds and the comfort of a warm sun overhead. It is rather serene in a way, making it an excellent day for flying and showing off ones skillset for a chance to get on the House Quidditch team. As the schedule dictates, the first tryout session, beginning at 9 o'clock, is for all of those who are interested in putting in their all for a chance to snag a position as a Beater. If you have considerable physical strength in your arms and are capable of aiming a Bludger, then this is the tryout for you.
At the centre of the pitch await the figures of the Flying instructor as well as the four House captains and what appears to be several mechanical dummies. The adult present can be heard speaking to the captains, though his words are inaudible as you're not yet close enough to hear the conversation taking place. All that can be assumed is that some last-minute guidance and instruction is being offered to them, considering they each nod their heads and take a few notes on the clipboards they are holding. As for the dummies that are present, well, there isn't a whole lot to make of them as they are very still at the moment and their purpose has yet to be revealed.
Hearing approaching footsteps and voices, MacKenzie quickly glances down at his watch, taking note of the time, and then turns to face the pitch entrance. "Gather 'round, gather 'round. We'll be gettin' started here shortly," he says as you approach.

With so much not making sense in the Botros' life currently, being out on the pitch wasn't one of those things. Anytime he hopped on his broom, it felt like coming home. A way to diminish all the uncertainly...and he was taking advantage of it now.
After the required stretching with a few of his yoga poses thrown in for spice, Aaron mounted and rose, catching his breath for a moment before diving in. With so many beaters prowling, he found dodging more thrilling than it usually could be. He raced past Lili, grinning as she batted away a bludger that narrowly clipped his broom twigs. He knew of her ability since they were both on the U17 together, but in that respect it was easy to anticipate her style. However, Rylee and Gunnar were a different story.
Gaining momentum, the Hufflepuff gave himself a wide berth of the other beaters, taking an outside-wait-and-listen approach. It felt easier to keep the other participants in his viewpoint. Like one might in an actual game, not that it helped much. The bludgers were especially energetic and spanning the entire pitch.... Aaron pushed himself into a steep dive to avoid one such bludger, using his reflexes to knock the bludger back towards the awaiting dummies. That was probably a miss, but... fight of flight, you know?
Not waiting to see if it did hit, the sixth year pushed his broom down to avoid Eniola. She was really killing it today, and he felt so proud of his housemate.

It was nice being out here with so many beaters. It was unusual, especially since there was usually only 4 on the pitch at a time. And even then, there was only one other that was usually on her team. So she was enjoying this. Though it meant that she had to be especially careful. The bludgers were already being pretty energetic, and on top of that there were a lot of them hitting them. The last thing she needed was to get hit by a bludger. That would end her hogwarts quidditch career before it even started to be honest. And then she'd not be able to play for the scouts. She wanted to get on a good professional quidditch team, so she wanted to make sure she did good here.
She hovered in the air, looking around. Aaron looked like he was doing good. She grinned as he sped past. It was a shame they weren't going to get to play again, since she'd aged out of the Under 17 now, but it might be good to play against him. Though, she knew his abilities quite well, so she probably had an advantage, though he knew her abilities and skills too.
Deciding to not hover around too much, she didn't want to be a sitting target, she pointed her broom down, and dived down a little, before levelling off, and looking around for the next bludger to hit, all whilst avoiding the dummies of course.

Staying attentive to everything happening on the pitch, Gunnar was pleased to see that his bludger hit its mark. But he didn't spend any time celebrating small victories because he needed to know where it was going next as well as be aware of the other bludger and what his fellow beaters were doing.
He saw Lili hit his rebounding bludger away from Rylee, so his eyes scanned for the other one. There. That Hufflepuff girl had just sent it towards the dummy by the hoops, so again, he anticipated its return path if it hit its mark as well. Leaning down on his broom to gain a bit more speed, he flew after it, prepared to meet its trajectory so he could feel the crack of his bat against it once more.

Though the Bludger was on a direct path to plowing into Rylee, it was soon smacked into a different direction all thanks to Liliane...
THWACK!
Down the pitch the black ball zoomed, making contact with a random dummy along the way... after it swerved to the left... then to the right... soon it was not that much of a distance away from Aaron... naturally, the Bludger honed in on the boy, set on doing to him what it had done previously to the dummy...
WUSH!
Aaron dove at just the right moment, though the bat he swung made no contact. The Bludger just kept on flying on its trajectory.
The other Bludger that was flying about was still flying toward the scoring area... then Eniola winded up her bat the moment it got closer and...
THWACK!
Now moving at an even faster pace, the Bludger carried on its course... closer and closer to the dummy it sped... then with a loud crack it made contact with the dummy, causing it to be knocked off its broom... the Bludger then rebounded, making its way toward where Gunnar was flying...

Truth be told, Colin had lost track of everything that had been going on amidst all the chaos. He knew that the dummies would be quite a distraction and the Bludgers rather vicious, but he wasn't anticipating that level of intensity. The Beater hopefuls out there were seemingly handling it all rather well, and he hoped his Captains were taking thorough notes.
Feeling the sun getting warmer on his neck, he looked down at his watch and took note of the time. It was nearly time for the first tryout session to come to a close. Several minutes later, the man reached for his whistle.
TWEET!
As the sound of the whistle echoed through the air, the dummies came to a sudden halt and then gradually returned to their original positions on the ground, returning back to their idle state. The Bludgers whizzed and zigzagged about the pitch for a moment before Colin waved his wand and watched as they slowly returned to their spot in the school's ball trunk.
"Nice flyin' out there, ye lot. That'll be the end of this tryout session," he called out to everyone who was still flying around the pitch on their brooms. "Captains will be postin' up rosters sometime next week, so keep yer eye on the noticeboard in yer common room. That said, time for ye to hit the showers and go about the rest of yer day."
OOC: Thank you all for participating in the Beater tryouts! I hope you all had fun. Feel free to post your character leaving the pitch at this time.
Quidditch rosters will be posted sometime on Sunday, March 19th, so keep your eyes on the lookout. ^___^

Rylee's current path along the pitch was an odd one. She seemed to be going in no real direction as of the moment, her eyes focused on those around her and anything that may have been coming her way. That meant the dummies were all accounted for as was the one bludger headed towards where Gunnar had been moments earlier.
What she hadn't realized was the one bludger she hadn't spotted as of yet was headed directly for her from somewhere not fully in her line of sight. The only reason she had even become remotely concerned about it was... she hadn't located it. What she had seen though was Lili coming from out of nowhere and swinging her bat at... a bludger. The one she hadn't seen. Rylee sent her fellow lioness a quick smile and a nod of her head in what was meant to be a 'thank you' for keeping her from being hit.
Turning sharply on her broom to relocate the bludgers and dummies, the sound of a whistle filled her ears. Had two whole hours really gone by that quickly?! Apparently so. If it wasn't for the other tryouts being held next she may have remained out on the pitch even longer.
Flying down to land on the ground, Rylee dismounted her broom. "Thanks, Professor Mackenzie, Captains. Good luck, everyone!" Giving everyone a warm smile she turned and headed for the showers to get cleaned up.
