Default Transfiguration Lesson II

There may have been a lot of strange goings on inside the castle as of late, but Hogwarts was first and foremostly still a place of education and Professor Darlington was certainly not about to let anyone get off lightly. Especially considering that today’s lesson had been scheduled for right after lunchtime so no excuses. She hoped everyone had eaten plenty of brain food.

It’s back to basics for this lesson, and the classroom was set out in the traditional way. The only addition were the items that she had neatly placed on each individual desk: a glass goblet, a bread roll (not for eating, you’ve already had lunch!) and an old copy of the Daily Prophet.

While waiting for the students to file in, Joyce sat at her desk and busied herself with the marking of some assignments. Probably not wise because some of the more ridiculous answers were enough to put a dampener on her mood.
OOC: Welcome everyone! Come on in and take a seat! Class has started! You can still jump in, just act like your kiddo was here the whole time. Or not. It's up to you, if you don't mind a bit of IC trouble! ;]

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Despite looking rather tired and wanting nothing more then to go to bed and sleep all day, Dorian still entered the classroom. Because what if todays lesson came up during his O.W.L exam? He couldn't miss anything!

His blue eyes that usually held a kind of interested spark looked kind of dull today but he pretended like everything was fine. Seeing the professor at her desk marking some papers, Dorian recognized them as their assignments and he hoped his was good enough... "Hello Professor Darlington" he greeted politely, he was tired but that did not mean he had forgotten his manners.

Turning around, the fifth year found a seat at the front and began placing his textbook and notebook neatly next to the goblet and bread roll. He would find out what those were for later anyway so he didn't ask. Rummaging back in his bag to take out his writing material, Dorian's frown got deeper as he search but could not find anything. Had he forgotten his ink and quill?

Running a hand through his hair in frustration, he glanced up at the professor but then decided to wait and ask for an extra quill from the student next to him when they came in.

Patrick walked into the room surprised to find that he was extra early. He was hoping he was late as he had a patch of pink fur on the back of his head that he was not thrilled about having. He saw the bread and realized just how hungry he was and really wished he could have ate some of the bread at the front of the room but he didn’t dare go any closer.

”Hello Professor.” he kept further back hoping to avoid any mishaps but he was fairly certain that he was going to have someone question the pink patches of fur on his body. He really needed to talk to his mama about transferring.

Indigo was not surprised to find that he was one of the first to arrive in Transfiguration. He generally kept his mealtimes brief, preferring to get away from the crowded Great Hall as soon as possible. He used to eat in the kitchen fairly often but now that was obviously impossible and he had to make do with the Great Hall as his only source of food. He'd followed a few people up to the classroom, remembering the warnings to avoid going anywhere alone in case one of those fluffy things showed up and tried to eat you.

"Good afternoon professor," He greeted politely as he entered the classroom. Nobody he really knew was there yet so he took a seat and waited for the lesson to start. As he did, he contemplated the items on his desk. Were they going to be eating in class? It seemed a bit unnecessary, considering they had just finished with lunch.

WHY WERE THEY HAVING LESSONS?

Chloe walked in not sure how anyone could focus on anything with things going on around the castle, but Chloe had made herself a promise at the beginning of term that she would be a great help to her house for the cup and she wouldn't let them down.

So heading into the classroom she looked around, "Afternoon Professor" her big smile on her face, because if there was one thing Chloe always wanted to do it was making sure everyone was having a great day. A smile could change someone's mood and she hoped hers did at least once.

Finding her seat she took out her materials and got ready for the lesson.

Valencia had taken to walking the halls in a quickened pace so as never to be alone in the hallways. She wasn't bothered by the fact that school was still going on. She enjoyed learning and lessons and having set apart time to do that.

"Hello Professor." she greeted before taking her seat.

She glanced at the desk before looking at the newspaper in front of her.

This tricky subject was quickly becoming one of Hanna's favourites, and was something to look forward to amongst the crazies of the castle. Although she wasn't sure which she preferred, a lovely older Professor turning into a Ghost Professor, or the atrocities of last year.

With her uniform looking ever so slightly creased, being that it was after lunch, but still pristine, Hanna made her way into the classroom. "Hello Professor Darlington," she greeted, before heading over to Dorian and sitting next to him. "Hey, uh... everything okay?" She'd noticed his frowns at about the same time as she noticed the items on the desk. Getting her own things out of her bag, she placed them neatly on the desk.

Transfiguration. Nooooooooot the seventh year's best subject despite making some pretty good advances in it over the terms, though the emotional set back of his rock to dog transfiguration failing when it counted. He was still baffled how inferi could bounce back so quickly from being pummeled by boulder-dogs but easily taken out by the arm of one of their own - a thing that haunted his nightmares still, honestly - but one look around the Transfiguration classroom put most of this out of mind.

A goblet. A roll. An old Daily Prophet.

..........what?

Though perhaps the more perplexing thing may be just how the Head Boy had seemingly grown a beard overnight. Not just a beard...but sideburns and overall fuzzy face in general. Really, he looked like a failed transfiguration himself. Though he was entirely unaware of his appearance seeing as he had literally rolled out of bed that morning and gone straight into his routine.

"Uh...good day, professor," Derf greeted as he moved towards an empty seat beside Chloe and set his things out. Reckon...they were not supposed to eat that, yeah? "...hey," he smiled over at the younger Ravenclaw, ruffling his hair a bit.

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

Tina was still reeling from the recent events, though no one would ever know it by looking at her. Outwardly, she appeared just as hard and standoffish as ever, but behind her immaculate uniform and stoic expression, she was a bundle of nerves and conflicting emotions. Dopple's death, hungry pink puffballs, students covered in fur... it was too much chaos for her to handle! She was glad that lessons weren't cancelled! They gave her a much needed sense of certainty, as well as a welcome distraction from her thoughts.

She followed a crowd of people heading to Transfiguration,
hanging back as far as she could without looking like she was walking alone. Tina hated the new rule! She hated being forced together with other people under any circumstances! She was glad when she finally reached the classroom. A nice, safe, predictable lesson was just what she needed... no tricks, no surprises, just good old-fashioned knowledge.

Tina nodded politely toward the professor as she entered. "Good afternoon, Professor Darlington," she greeted.
She took a seat and immediately noticed the goblet, roll, and newspaper sitting on the desk. Why were they here? If it weren't for the fact that they'd just had lunch, she might've thought they would be eating the roll and drinking from.the goblet, but Professor Darlington didn't strike Tina as the type to offer refreshments in class... and that wouldn't explain the paper. It seemed more likely that they'd be turning the objects into something. It was just a question of what.

Nettie walked in to the transfiguration classroom and instantly raised an eyebrow at the strange items presented to them on each desk. She was totally stuffed from lunch, and she knew Darlington hadn't given them these things to actually EAT. What was with the Prophet? Hmmmm.

Settling in to a seat near the front like she usually did, she waited patiently for Darlington to get started, smiling at her in greeting as she sat down.

Joyce looked up momentarily when the first student arrived and took a seat. “Hello, Mr Katharos,” she greeted in response, eyes lingering on him longer than usual when she noticed he hadn’t yet taken out any supplies. No ink, no quill. Nothing. The majority of today’s lesson was going to be wand work but some note taking was still necessary….

SPOILER!!: Mr Dooley

Before she could question anything further however, the Slytherin Captain was here and he was either trying to start some kind of new fashion trend or it was that strange mutant business. As much as she disapproved, she really hoped it was the former. “Good afternoon, Mr Dooley. Unfortunately for you, we won’t be delving into body transfiguration today.” Maybe next lesson. She knew a great hair switching spell that would come in handy.

SPOILER!!: Mr Rousseau

She briefly turned her attention back to her marking and tutted under her breath at another absurd answer. Honestly. What sort of education had these children been getting before she’d arrived?

“Welcome, Mr Rousseau,” she replied, sending a little nod the Ravenclaw’s way. She liked this one. He seemed quiet and never really caused much hassle. If only they were all like him.

This one looked eager. Hopefully it was eager for learning and not for causing trouble. Joyce eyed young Chloe somewhat warily before returning her greeting. “I trust you had a nice lunch, Miss McCarthy.” The house elves had prepared a rather nice avocado salad this afternoon.

The next question she attempted to mark was the most ridiculous of the lot and Joyce set her quill down in exasperation. Now wasn’t the time. No, she’d carry on later.

“Good afternoon, Miss Phillips,” she said, as she stood from her desk and took a spot in front of the blackboard instead.

Next in was Hanna, and Joyce almost managed a smile. This Ravenclaw showed a lot of potential and the Transfiguration professor expected great things from her. But for now… “Good afternoon, Miss Newton. I do believe Mr Katharos is in need of a spare quill if you would be so kind.” Hopefully she had a spare handy.

She wasn’t normally one for staring, but she couldn’t help it as her eyes followed the Head Boy and the new addition he was wearing on his face. “Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne…” she greeted dubiously. She knew young men matured at different rates but this was very….. sudden. She was almost positive he hadn’t been sporting facial hair like that last week. Odd.

No good afternoon greeting from Trinetta, but Joyce didn’t mind. She nodded her greeting back at the young Ravenclaw and then glanced in the direction of the door for any more last minute stragglers.

At exactly one o’clock, Joyce walked towards the door and poked her head out to scan the corridor for any latecomers. No? Well, okay. Anyone who decided to procrastinate at lunch and turn up to class late would face the consequences. She shut the door with a quick snap and returned to her place in front of the blackboard where she handwrote and underlined one single word.

REVERSION

“Reversion!” She stated loudly and clearly, turning her attention back to the class. “It’s what it says on the tin. Reversion is the process of turning, or reverting, something back to its original state. Almost everything goes through some kind of process to get it to where it is today. Take this desk for example,” she said tapping her wand on the desk of whoever was sitting closest. “Was it always a desk? Of course not, that’s absurd.”

Were they getting the gist? Hopefully, because she had a question for them to ponder over to get things started.

“Now, who can tell me in what scenarios the use of reversion might come in handy?”

OOC: Thanks guys! Here’s Question 1, Joyce wants to know when someone might need to use the ability to revert something back to its original state. No answer is a wrong answer so let’s see what you’ve got. We’ll be moving on in another 24 hours or so. :]

Indigo jotted down a few notes as she spoke. Though so far everything seemed fairly straightforward. Everything was made from something else or went though some sort of process. He eyed the items on his desk with a new perspective. The bread roll was made of different ingredients, like wheat, and had been baked to become what it was now. The old daily prophet had gone through a printing process, plus the paper had come from...wherever paper comes from. Okay, so Indigo had never claimed to be an expert on where things came from.

It was interesting to ponder, though. As was the question of when reversion would come in handy. He raised his hand. "Could reversion be used on a person? Say, if they had died their hair but wanted to go back to their natural color, would it work in that situation? Or if someone got a tattoo but regretted it, could they revert their skin back to how it had been before?"

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Glad that at least someone that he knew had taken a seat next to him, Dorian opened his mouth to speak to Hanna when the Professor spoke in his place. Closing his mouth and feeling his ears turning bright red, Dorian looked down at his desk and awkwardly began tapping his finger on top of it. "Uh yeah...what she said" he said. "I think i accidently left my quill in the Great Hall" he stopped tapping his finger and looked at the girl now. "If you have a spare i can borrow that be great"

Of course the Professor wasnt going to wait til he had a quill or not and the fifth year looked at the front as she began class. He crossed his ankles under the table and listened. Reversion spells. He had read some of that magic during his studying. "Don't animagi need to know a reversal spell? In order to change back to human?" he asked.

"Oh, a quill? I'm sure I have a spare," Hanna said, and bent down to her bag. Opening it up, and reaching into one of the compartments, she pulled one of her spare quills out and passed it to Dorian. "I've only got the one pot of ink, but you can help yourself to it." She had more in her dorm room.

Her attention to Professor Darlington now that class had now active, with the word Reversion. Well, perhaps a muggle had crafted the table from something. Or a witch from a small piece of wood. Maybe not even wood. What limitations were there regarding the size and material of things being transfigured? It was something Hanna wanted to test. She thought about situations in which reversals were needed. Raising her hand, she said "It's important when a spell is cast wrong. Or with an incomplete result. It's handy to reverse the spell and place the item back to its initial form before trying to cast it again." If she botched a simple Vera verto spell, giving her a half-rat, half-goblet, she would prefer to reverse it back to it's original state rather than try again on something that was a mutated form of what it was.

Tina nodded, smiling slightly at the professor's greeting. "Yes, I'm quite well, thank you, Professor," she replied. It wasn't exactly a lie. She was doing as well as possible, given the strange circumstances.

Tina's attention shifted from the assortment of objects on her desk to the professor as the lesson began. She listened intently, jotting down a few notes. So reversion… did that mean the goblet, roll, and newspaper had started out as a different object and been transfigured into their their current state? Was it going to be their task to change them back? And if so, that didn't quite explain the roll. Tina could understand the goblet and paper being transfigured, but wouldn't Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration prevent transfiguring an object into a roll? Perhaps she was looking at it all wrong… Maybe instead of untransfiguring, there was a reversion spell to deconstruct the items into their most basic components?

Tina considered the professor's question carefully. The first scenario that popped into her mind was using reversion to fix an incomplete or incorrectly cast spell, but that had already been said. Ever the overachiever, Tina didn't want to piggyback off of anyone else's answer. She had to come up with one of her own, but what? All her other ideas seemed too far-fetched to voice. Her mind hopped from one thing to another, frantically searching for a good answer. Reversion… incomplete transfiguration… human transfiguration.

Tina suddenly remembered a story her guardian told her about the 1926 capture of Gellert Grindelwald… how he'd used transfiguration to disguise himself as Percival Graves. That was it! How could she have forgotten? Every kid at Chateau Croyance knew that story! Her hand went up. “Couldn't reversion be used to reveal the true identity of someone using transfiguration as a disguise?” she said.

Dyed hair? Was Indigo getting ideas from the predicament Patrick seemed to be in? Joyce’s lips twitched at his answer but she shook her head. “I like your thinking, Mr Rousseau and there is magic out there that would assist with such things but what we’ll be practicing today is for inanimate objects only.”

Honestly, she wasn’t sure if she trusted this lot with body transfiguration just yet.

Under normal circumstances, Joyce would have reprimanded the Ravenclaw for arriving to class without the proper supplies but judging my the colour of his ears he’d already realised the error of his ways.

“Make sure you arrive with writing materials next class please, Mr Katharos,”
she said in warning before nodding at his answer. “And you’re quite right, those who practice animagi do require a reversal spell lest they wish to stay in their animal form. Not quite the spell we’ll be practicing today, but good. Yes.”

Her attention to Professor Darlington now that class had now active, with the word Reversion. Well, perhaps a muggle had crafted the table from something. Or a witch from a small piece of wood. She was glad to note that Hanna did indeed have a spare quill handy and watched the exchange between the two Ravenclaws before pondering the answer given. “That’s certainly one use of reversion, yes. To provide the opportunity for a re-do of sorts.”

Joyce turned her attention to Tina and she could practically see the entire thought process. This is exactly what she liked to see and one of the very reasons she'd been eager to accept the position of professor. Young brains working hard.

"Not quite, Miss Dantes. It's not spell reversal, but the actual reversion of the process taken to create an inanimate object. But I like your thinking, well done." And she genuinely meant it as well.

Good good. Some good answers.

Nodding her approval, Joyce addressed the class as a whole and hoped they were still paying attention. She wasn’t opposed to a quick tickling charm should she find someone with their eyes drooping. And that was the nicer option.

“As I said previously, almost all objects we encounter have gone through some kind of process to get it to where it is today. The items each of you have on your desk, for example, weren’t always as you see them right now. Successfully perform a reversion spell and we’re able to revert said object back into its natural form.” She took a moment to make sure they were all following and that there weren’t too many puzzled expressions.

“The spell we’re going to be learning today is, Prima Forma.” With a flick of her wand, three different incantations and materials appeared on the board along with the wand movement of the day.

Quote:
Prima Forma Sabulo → Sand
Prima Forma Siligo → Wheat
Prima Forma Sylva → Wood

Wand Movement: An anti-clockwise circular motion and then point at the object.

“As you can see, one must amend the incantation depending on which object you’re attempting to revert. Use the wrong incantation with the wrong object and you simply won’t see any results.” She didn’t need to specify what incantation needed to be used with which item, did she? She hoped even the first years had the intelligence for that. “It’s important that you focus fully on the end result. If you don’t, the reversion may only happen partly.” Was she going to see piles of sticky pulp instead of wood? From some of them…. probably.

“The wand movement is an anti-clockwise circular motion before simply pointing at the desired object.” She performed a quick demonstration and the glass goblet that had been at her own desk dissolved into a small pile of fine white sand. See? Simple.

“Now! Everyone get to their feet, please!”
She didn’t believe in sitting while practicing, it was lazy and impractical. “You’ve got ten minutes to practice on one of the items. You can choose which, but we will be practicing on them all before we get to the main activity.”

OOC: Wow, I didn’t mean for that post to be so long but there it is. Choose ONE item to practice on for now, doesn’t matter which. Joyce’ll be moving you on to the second and third items in 24 and 48 hours respectively. Thanks for playing, guys!

Indigo just nodded when his questions were answered. This spell was only for inanimate objects, not living things like people. Though there were other spells for that. That made a lot of sense, and Indigo wasn't surprised at all. Now he was a bit curious about what the spell would be that could be used on people like Indigo's questions had been about. Maybe he could ask later, or try to find something about it in the library. For now, though, he neatly wrote out a few more notes as Professor Darlington spoke.

He found it very interesting that the incantation had to be modified depending on the object. It was even more interesting that the modification depended on what the original form was, not necessarily on what it was now. That meant that you first had to know what the original form of something was before you could turn it back. Like glass. Indigo gathered from context clues that the original form of glass was sand, and now that he saw it he did remember hearing something like that before but he didn't think he would have been able to remember that on his own. So he never would have been able to do the reversion spell on something that was glass without first looking it up. He just thought that was interesting.

Why did they have to stand? Indigo was perfectly capable of practicing the spell while sitting at his desk. But he reluctantly got to his feet. Which one did he want to practice on first? His eyes landed on the bread roll first so he decided to go with that one. Why not? He repeated the incantation under his breath a few times. Prima Forma Siligo. "Prima Forma Siligo." As he said the incantation he made a counterclockwise circle in the air, ending with a point to the roll. And suddenly it was no longer a roll. It was... wheat? It didn't look quite right, but it was wheat-adjacent. Hey, it wasn't bread any longer.

It really was ironic that the Head Boy resembled a botched human transfiguration effort given the question posed. Regardless of how unaware he was of his own appearance in the moment, Derf could think of approximately ten billion and two - give or take - situations that would require the branch of Untransfiguration. That was the same as Reversion, yes? The definitions were align so he reckoned so. In general though, Derf was a fan of counter-spells in general.

Though...the first instance that popped into mind had to do with Polyjuice Potion...but he really REALLY did not wish to dwell on that any further and so his hand remained down while he tried to wrangle his mind in to focus on a different option. Only it didn't happen - rather like telling someone not to think about pink polka dotted dragons and then that was literally ALL one could think about. When his mind finally DID dwell on something else...it was on the items in front of him which he reckoned they were meant to untransfigure once given the signal.

No matter though, especially seeing as Tina had mentioned essentially his thoughts anyway. Though something DID pop up in his mind - blessed distraction - in regards to Indigo's answer. "Is...hair color considered transfiguration or...uh...untransfiguration? When you're altering color you're not altering the essential nature of the hair, right?" Though Derf had never experimented on his hair, if anyone would believe that given his almost lion-like appearance in the moment. The line between Transfiguration and Charms always seemed like such a fine line to dance between - almost like the branches of magic were out to trick student on purpose, you know? "I mean...if you tried to give yourself say...unicorn hair as opposed to human hair then it would be different? Sorta the same with tattoos since that's dying the skin and changing it's color but not its nature?"

And Derf had his FAIR share of tattoos to dwell on this thought process. Though he had always imagined like...someone having to painstakingly use Tergeo on his skin to siphon the ink back off.

Oh, but right. They were moving on to practicing and THAT had Derf's full attention. Though first...notes on his parchment:

Quote:
UNTRANSFIGURATION

Prima Forma
one must amend the incantation depending on which object you’re attempting to revert; wrong 'suffix' and nothing will happen
+ Sabulo → Sand
+ Siligo → Wheat
+ Sylva → Wood
Wand Movement
anti-clockwise circular motion and then point at the object.
"Professor? Sabulo and all these are decided on based on the end result object, right? The one already in its transfigured state I mean. Not decided based on the true nature of the object...and meaning he have to guess which one to use when?" He was now pretty sure he had just confused himself with that...but hey at least he was practicing the anti-clockwise motion while he confused himself.

Why was she looking at her like that? Chloe got a little uncomfortable as the professor had given her a weird look but soon she was looking at Derf who just walked in and said hi, "Hey" smiling that he was sitting next to her, she really liked having older friends. They were a great group and were always so helpful. Hearing the first question Chloe just stared at her desk not really understanding at first. The desk was something else? How were they suppose to know if it was like a bird transfigured into a desk or even a quidditch hoop? Where they learning how to tell or just doing the spell to figure out.

oooohhhhh

She meant like the desk was parts of things put together. Now she got it and nodded in understanding. Being glad she didn't answer the question and look stupid in front of her classmates, especially Derf right there by her she continued to listen and take notes.

Then Derf talked and Chloe looked at the objects, at him, at the professor, and back to him. What did he mean? What were they doing again? S

She was now confused.

curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

Nettie paid close attention to everything Darlington was saying - the woman commanded the room, that was for certain. THREE different spells today? Interesting. That was a lot, but it was a welcome distraction from everything else going on in her life. She would take it.

She decided to work on the wheat one first - for no other reason than she had just slammed her finger on the parchment and that was what had come up first. First, she did the anti-clockwise motion followed by a point. She did it a few times before she practiced the incantation.

"Prima Forma Siligo...Prima Forma Siligo..."
she muttered a few times. Alright, time to try it!

She pointed to the roll and cleared her throat. "Prima Forma Siligo!" she exclaimed, doing the anti-clockwise circle and then pointing her wand at the roll.

It morphed down in to a mushy looking...thing, some bits of wheat forming in the mush...and then it stopped. She had a half formed pile of dough, essentially. With specks of wheat. Gross.

Daisy decided to revert the glass goblet back to its original state. "Prima Forma Sabulo," she repeated in her mind until she was confident enough to attempt the spell.

She then picked up her wand and practised the anti-clockwise circular movement, finishing with pointing at the object. Now was the time to put the incantation and wand movement together.

"Prima Forma Sabulo!" Daisy firmly said as she moved her wand in an anti-clockwise circle and then pointing at the glass goblet. Within a few seconds, the goblet had turned into a little mass of sand.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Saying a "Thanks" to Hanna and taking her spare quill, Dorian opened up his notebook to take notes when the Professor spoke to him again. And his ears turned red again. "I'm sorry, Professor" he mumbled before he continued a bit louder "I promise it won't happen again" the last time he had forgotten his quill was when he had been a first year. Making this rather embarrassing for him.

As he dipped the quill in the shared ink bottle, Dorian copied down in his notebook before he placed his , i mean Hanna's quill and stood up from his seat.

Deciding to work on the goblet, Dorian picked it up and placed it in the middle of his desk while he practiced the incantation in his mind. When he was sure that he got it right, he took his wand from out of his robe sleeve and rotated it anti-clockwise before pointing it at the goblet and said "Prima Forma Sabulo"

Surprising himself, the top of the goblet began to change in to sand as it slowly fell on his desk and Dorian was about to tell Hanna to look at what he had done because it wasn't often that a spell worked on the first try when he lost concentration and only half of the goblet had changed.

Sigh...

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

So Tina had been wrong about reversion. That was… unfortunate. *She hated being wrong, and being wrong in front of other people was worst of all! Tina was determined not to make any more mistakes today, so she paid even closer attention than normal as Professor Darlington started speaking, feverishly copying down every word the woman said. The more she heard, the more it sounded like she hadn't been too far off in guessing that reversion involved breaking an object down to its basic components.

Tina was feeling reasonably confident until the part about changing the incantation to fit the object or nothing would happen. She looked at the incantations written on the board. That was a lot to keep track of, and the more there was to remember, the more potential there was for mistakes. She kept her eyes glued to the professor's demonstration, watching in amazement as the goblet turned to sand. She had to admit, that was pretty cool!

Tina stood behind her desk, glancing at the assortment of items. She decided to start with the goblet, as that had been the one the professor demonstrated first. She felt more confident with that one having seen what the end result was supposed to look like, and there would be no chance of mismatching the incantation… not that that was going to happen. It was pretty obvious that sand went with the goblet, wheat with the roll, and wood with the newspaper, but better safe than sorry, *right?

“Prima Forma Sabulo,” Tina mumbled under her breath. “Prima forma sabulo.” Once she'd practiced the incantation enough times to get a feel for the pronunciation, she raised her wand. The anticlockwise circle and point movement wasn't hard, so she only practiced it once before moving on to her goblet. She stared at it intently, visualizing it deconstructing into a neat pile of sand… just like the sand on the beaches back home. As soon as a clear vision formed in her mind, she moved her wand in an anticlockwise circle. “Prima Forma Sabulo!” she said, pointing her wand.

Did it work? When Tina looked again, there was a mound of sand where her goblet had once been, but the sand was darker than the white sand Professor Darlington produced. Did the color of the sand matter? Did she do it wrong? And if she did, how could she try again when her goblet was now a pile of brownish-beige sand?

Patrick already knew something he wanted a reversion on. These small patches of Pink fur. He had walked into the hospital wing but heard they could do nothing. Forget that. He decided he'd rather be a bit pink and fluffy than stuck in the hospital wing. Plus he figured he could cover it up but judging by their professors reaction that wasn't going to happen either.

He sat silently writing down what the spells for the class were. He was going to have to make things go back to what they were before they became the thing they are.... did that sound right? Looking at the bread he decided he would give that one a try. As he grabbed his wand he took a deep breath. He could do this he could make sure he got bread back into wheat it looked easy as his classmates made it look.

Grabbing his wand he took a deep breath and began to visualize wheat instead of bread. Wheat, flour, grainy. "Prima Forma Siligo" he moved his wand counter-clockwise. He waited a second before glancing at the bread seeing it turn to wheat. He smiled. Wow he can't believe he actually made it go back to what it was.

Expression as neutral as ever, Joyce paced between the desks so that she could get a closer look at the students and their practicing. One wrong move and they’d turn their own desks back into a wooden log. So far so good it seemed. Mostly, anyway.

“Not terrible for a first attempt, Mr Rousseau,” she commented, stopping briefly at his desk and looking at his handiwork. “A few more practices and I think you’ll master it with ease.”

She didn’t know the Head Boy all too well, but as she listened to his thoughts out loud, Joyce found herself half-wondering if the sorting hat had considered placing him in Ravenclaw. He had quite the inquisitive mind, it seemed.

“You’re quite right Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne. The distinction between Transfiguration and Charms can become quite blurry at times but I believe you’ve answered your own question with your example.”

And as for his question regarding reversion.

“The incantations practicing today can be used on any object that was made with these particular materials originally. They don’t have to be transfigured objects.” Perhaps that’s where the confusion lay. “That bread roll for example, was freshly baked this morning by our very own house-elves.”

Oh, and while she had the attention of the Head Boy.

“Could you kindly assist young Miss McCarthy?” The girl looked positively puzzled.

Gross.

She continued on her round of the classroom when she came upon Trinetta and……. Well, whatever that mush was at her desk. “Your concentration is severely lacking, Miss Gladin. Clear all distractions from your mind when you try your next item.”

"Prima Forma Sabulo!" Daisy firmly said as she moved her wand in an anti-clockwise circle and then pointing at the glass goblet. Within a few seconds, the goblet had turned into a little mass of sand.

Miss Swann on the other hand, seemed to be getting on rather well and Joyce sent her an approving nod as she walked past. Very good.

Sigh...

And then there was Dorian and his attempt. “Not quite there yet, Mr Katharos. Hopefully you’ll have better luck when it comes to reverting your bread and paper.” As long as she saw improvements, she didn’t mind minor mistakes.

SPOILER!!: Miss Dantes

She hadn’t failed to notice Tina and the copious amount of notes she had been taking. Those notes would come in useful for the assignment she had planned on the subject so hopefully the next batch of marking wouldn’t be quite as horrendous. That was something at least.

“You achieved the end result, Miss Dantes, that’s what matters most,” she said in a rare moment of compassion as she made her way past the Ravenclaw.

Patrick had also opted for the bread, and Joyce was content to see the small pile of wheat he’d successfully formed with his spellwork. “Good wand work and good visualisation, Mr Dooley, keep it up.”

“Some of you are showing a lot of promise,” she said, still pacing between the desks. “Some of you need more practicing. Remember, it’s important that you visualise the end result. Clear your mind and as you speak the incantation, picture the item in its original form. You have ten more minutes to practice on your final two items.” Chop chop!

OOC: Sorry guys, RL happened. Thanks for sticking around though and like Joyce said, get practicing on the other two items! 24 more hours for the mini-activity!
