Armour Gallery

https://s26.postimg.cc/uybfo23rt/arm...ery-banner.jpg
Adjacent to the Trophy Room is a long corridor where numerous polished suits of armour are on exhibit. This collection of armour has been through a lot over the centuries that the school has been in existence, granted they don't look like it for not a single scratch can be found. If you know your history well enough, you'll be able to easily imagine the circumstances that these suits endured. The weapons they are holding say enough.

Should you decide that you want to examine the armour closely, please do so with caution. Yes, being able to see your reflection in them can come in handy from time to time. Nevertheless, they are known to move because someone's cat has managed to climb inside or, even worse, Peeves has decided to play a practical prank on anyone who happens to walk by and will chase after them, swords and spiked balls on chains swinging. Other than that, the clanky metal should remain quite stationary until they are summoned for battle in a time when Hogwarts is in need of additional protection.

come plaaaaay

Prefect patrols sucked. And in his humble opinion, they were completely useless.

So Max, being Max, decided enough was enough and after having made sure noone was snooping around behind him, the Slytherin found himself slipping into the armour gallery. The plan? He was just gonna hide out in here for a bit and PRETEND he'd completed his patrols.

Genius.

And that wasn't the only thing that was genius.

He was pretty certain that a couple of terms ago he'd stuffed the helmet of one of these suits of armours with a sweet stash. Now it was just a matter of finding which one.

Lottiepot 01-16-2019 08:05 PM

Hogwarts was so huge that despite having been there for a while now Caolan was still discovering places that he had never been before. In his spare time he often found himself hanging out in his common room or going for a wander through the corridors seeing what was around. This place was so much cooler than his old school was, there was no chewing gum under the desks and ugly concrete buildings here.

It was on one of these wanders that he came across the armour gallery which he had stumbled upon again that day. He wasn’t really paying much attention to his surroundings until he was half-way down the corridor and spotted another person there with him. He let out a groan at who it was.

Ugh.

Oops. Was that out loud?

He was sure the guy was actually an okay bloke but he hadn’t really gotten over how little effort he had put into that DADA lesson nor got his head around the several clones at that charms lesson. Perhaps if he kept walking..?

Waterloo 01-16-2019 08:20 PM

There were a lot of suits of armour in here. Which meant, unfortunately, there was going to be a lot of searching required to find that elusive stash. This was going to be one mammoth task. Was it even worth it? Pssssh, of course it was.

He stood on his tippy toes and was juuuuuust about to start lifting up the helmet of the first suit of armour when he heard the unmistakable sound of a groan. Apparently, he had company and whoever it was didn't exactly sound happy.

Max spun on the spot and.... oh, it was Mr Row Row Row Your Boat.

"Yeah?" He asked, puffing out his puny chest. "Can I help you?"

Lottiepot 01-16-2019 08:59 PM

Oh yep.

Great.

He had seen him. And was he trying to make himself look bigger than Caolan? It took a lot of effort for the fifth-year NOT to snort in response but he managed to hold it in. He raised his left brow instead (a talent he was secretly quite proud of). The real question was whether Caolan could help him considering the prefect could barely even reach the top of the armour. And what was HE doing anyway?

“Sorry. I didn’t realise it was against the law to walk through a corridor” he replied sarcastically.

And because it was obvious that Mr Prefect liked to put little effort into what he was doing (not bitter at all) Caolan couldn’t help himself. “Did you need a step-ladder?” Heh.

Waterloo 01-16-2019 09:06 PM

He hadn't really had the same growth spurt the other boys in his year seemed to have had, he was a late bloomer okay! So actually, yes, a step-ladder right now would be sort of handy. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't about to admit that out loud though. Not to this kid anyway.

"You can walk wherever you want," Max replied, cheeks flushing ever so slightly. "I'm just...."

Actually, no. He didn't need to explain himself.

Maxton turned back to the first suit of armour and back on his tippy toes, raised the visor and thrust a hand inside the helmet. Nope, no stash in this one.

Next!

Lottiepot 01-16-2019 09:25 PM

YEAH! He thought so. And before anyone asked he did catch that slight blush which he felt bad about for just a split second before turning back to normal. The fifth year was pretty tall for his age and loved partaking in sports too so couldn’t empathise with the poor seventh year.

Caolan would have moved on and just left him to whatever it was that he was doing but quite frankly bantering with this guy was kind of fun and he didn’t actually have anything else to that day so he stayed out watching him force his hand into the suits of armour and come out empty-handed.

You know they’re for display right? They’re empty.” Again with the sarcasm. He couldn’t help himself. He got that the prefect had obviously hidden something in them. It was either that or he was looking for what someone else might have stashed away in there but he sort of got the inkling that he didn’t care about his Prefect duties that much that he’d actively go looking out for troublemakers.

But seriously, did he need a boost?

Waterloo 01-16-2019 09:41 PM

"Oh yeah, I know that," Max retorted dryly, busy struggling with the visor of the next suit of armour. If he didn't have his back turned right now, the other boy would've seen one gigantic eyeroll. "I just enjoy shoving my hand in their heads. Hobby of mine."

NOT.

And here he was thinking Ravenclaws were supposed to be a smart bunch. Eh.

The struggle continued. This particular visor was a stiff one. It obviously hadn't been opened for yonks and had rusted or something because arghhhh. Or maybe it was just because he was a weakling. He was committed now though. And now that this kid had probably clocked he was searching for something, he could hardly go and leave his territory unmanned!

Lottiepot 01-16-2019 11:15 PM

To be honest, the guy seemed a bit weird so Caolan wouldn’t have put it passed him. He let out an audible snort this time at the Prefects retort. So the guy could be funny too? “You don’t look at all suspicious..” It was a good job it was Caolan that had spotted him and not another student. He was no tattletale but he couldn’t be sure of anyone else. Some of those first years looked like they couldn’t wait to get an older student in trouble for exchange of house points. Some of these kids took the whole house segregation and cup winning thing to the extreme.

As for being smart.. intelligence wasn’t all about being a bookworm and being able to recite the periodic table off by heart. Caolan had the sort of world-wisely intelligence that some of these sheltered Wizarding family kids lacked. And he was proud of it.

As amusing as it was watching the guy struggle, Caolan felt it was time to put him out of his misery for once and all. He took a couple of strides forward and reached up towards the helmet. With a slight force he managed to push the visor up and stepped back to look at the prefect with a satisfied grin.

“Better?”

Waterloo 01-17-2019 12:29 PM

Cue more unimpressed eyerolling.

He knew he didn't look suspicious, okay? He didn't need confirmation. There was absolutely nothing suspicious about searching, one by one, inside the helmets of each and every one of these suits of armour.......

Huh. Okay. Maybe it was a little suspicious.

Eyes narrowing in irritation, Max watched as the other boy approached and went ahead and unstuck the visor he'd just spent the last who knows how long struggling with. Just like that. He made it look like a piece of cake.

"You're just lucky I already did the loosening part for you."
Y'know, the actual hard work.He gave the boy a look and huffed under his breath, "what are you some kind of action man?" Ugh.

Lottiepot 01-17-2019 01:19 PM

As satisfying as the expression on Max’s face was and how good he felt about being able to do something that he couldn’t, Caolan wasn’t actually the sort of person to cause conflict. He just didn’t like laziness and he was capable of holding a grudge for quite a long while. Plus now they had started something they may as well continue with it.

“Sure..” Whatever he wanted to say to make himself feel better. As for being an action man, the sixteen-year-old snorted in response. “No, I just went through puberty.” Y’know.. He gained height and grew muscles and did everything that teenage boys were supposed to do. Caolan was a good 5’10 already and still had some growing left to do and his love of sports meant that he had some muscular mass behind him.

“You’re welcome” He replied with even more sarcasm.

Waterloo 01-17-2019 02:11 PM

Maxton, on the other hand, was a whopping 5'7 and a half. The half was very important. As for muscle mass? Well, that was something that simply didn't exist despite all the mornings spent doing obligatory laps last term.

As far as he was concerned, muscles were overrated anyway. But...... well, it was still a bit of a touchy subject and despite the fact that Caolan had just lent him a helping hand, Max turned and shot him an almighty G L A R E.

"What are you trying to insinuate!? I've been through puberty too!"
He was eighteen! Basically a grown man! "LOOK." He leant in close and thrust a finger at his own upper lip. "There's some hair there!" Granted, not a lot. But it was a START.

Lottiepot 01-17-2019 10:04 PM

For someone who was gaining an advantage for being around Caolan, Maxton was being really ungrateful. Where was the thank you? Where was the appreciation? Caolan could have just moved along after all or stood and watched him struggling and as amusing as that would have been, the fifth-year chose out of the goodness of his heart to lend him a helping hand. Granted it was because he could show off a little. Look what a bit of exercise could do. “Do you know what can give you a bit of strength in your arms? Rowing.” Just saying. Full of helpful hints he was.

Heh.

He saw that look and it was entirely unthreatening.

He shrugged in response. He HAD asked. “I’m not saying anything..” But where Caolan had had a growth spurt at age fourteen, Mr Prefect seemed to have fallen behind his peers. He squinted when he pointed at his chin trying to make out the minimal facial hairs that he was talking about, an amused smile gracing his face.

“What are you trying to find anyway?” he asked leaning back against the wall, his arms folded across his chest. Sorry mate he wasn’t going anywhere.

Waterloo 01-17-2019 10:25 PM

ROWING.

........... really?

The expression that graced Max's face was one of much indignance. He was annoyed. Annoyed that he couldn't just find his stash in peace. Annoyed that the younger boy had bigger muscles than him and ANNOYED at his ANNOYING face in general.

With more huffing and puffing, Max turned to work on the next suit of armour. The quicker he found the goods, the quicker he could get out of here. "None of your business. Go away."

Maxton Carden, such a pleasant chap, he was.

Lottiepot 01-19-2019 01:39 PM

As fun as it was winding Mr Prefect up, Caolan felt it time to back away a bit. Some guys could get really defensive over the way they looked and the fifth-year wasn’t the sort to push it too far. And if looks could kill he would’ve been dead by now. “Sorry mate, couldn’t help myself” He chuckled. Winding him up was far too easy.

Actually it WAS his business now. Caolan had caught him clearly up to no good and although he was no tattletale he was well within his rights to tell someone else what he had seen. That and he was a little invested now too.

“I helped you out. The least you could do is tell me what you’re doing.” There might be more helmets he couldn’t lift or reach after all and he couldn’t see anyone else around that was willing to offer their services.

Waterloo 01-19-2019 06:54 PM

Oh? And perhaps he might not be able to help himself when he accidentally knocks one of these suits of armours down right on top of the plonker. That'd shut him up for a hot second.

"I didn't ask you to help me out,"
the Slytherin replied stubbornly, managing to get the visor of the next helmet up ALL BY HIMSELF. See? He could do it too. "Therefore, it doesn't count." He searched inside the helmet just like he'd done to the others before..... but nothing.

Maybe someone else had already found the stash.

Maybe this whole thing was futile. Ugh.

Max crossed his arms across his chest and turned to face the other boy with a frown. "Don't you have anything better to do with your time?"

Lottiepot 01-20-2019 05:39 PM

Wooooooow.

That was gratefulness for you. Caolan had lent him a hand and he was acting as if HE was in the wrong. Look mate, the sixteen year old had a problem with laziness and considering he was supposed to be a positive influence to the younger kids AND they were sharing a boat with several youngins, Caolan got a bad impression from him from the very start. He was willing to let it slide but if he was going to give him that attitude then maybe he would keep the tension going for a little while longer.

“If I hadn’t helped you’d still be struggling with that visor. Is a simple thank you really that difficult for you?” If so Caolan wished him all the luck in the future because he was going to struggle with that attitude.

As for having nothing better to do with his day? He smirked. “Nah. This is quite entertaining.” Keep doing you.

Waterloo 01-21-2019 07:11 PM

It was taking all the effort not to pull his own hair out. Good hair was one of the only decent things he had going for him and he was pretty sure baldness wouldn't be a good look for him so Max stuck with a frown instead. ALL THE FROWNING right now.

"If this is your idea of entertainment, you need to go find yourself a hobby."
Max scoffed, shaking his head in exasperation.

A thank you though? Is that what it was going to take? Because he didn't mind saying it if that's all it was going to take to get this kid to do one.

".......... THANK you." Did he mean it? Nope.

Nimma 01-29-2019 02:26 PM

Nimma had been apprehensive about coming back to the armour gallery, but she could not avoid it forever. After one of the most terriblest times in Nimma's time at Hogwarts! Eyebrows slightly raised, Nimma entered the gallery and could hear someone talking. She was quite relieved though, to see that it was a studentsie talking and not one of the Masters from last school year! It was what they were DOING that caught her eyes. She looked on for a moment as they pried open a knight's visor.

Was it dirty?? Had it been missed during the last cleaning?

"Oh no, oh no, oh no!" she cried out with a quiver, making her way towards the suits of armour and the studentsies.

Lottiepot 01-29-2019 10:56 PM

Find himself a hobby? “Says the person spending his time looking inside empty armour” Didn’t HE have anything better to be doing? And the thank you was accepted with a smirk and a smarmy ‘you’re welcome’. Didn’t his Ma ever teach him manners?

Caolan was starting to get pretty bored of Maxton’s terrible attitude and WAS going to finally leave him to be a miserable old boot when a House Elf suddenly appeared near them. The sixteen year old hadn’t quite made his mind up about them. The thought of them practically being used as a servant, even if they didn’t mind, was a bit creepy but at the same time they made amazing food and the castle looked pretty spotless most of the time. This house elf was practically running towards them and the Ravenclaw blinked at her with confusion.

“Whatever you’re going to say it was his fault” he pointed at the Prefect. Caolan was no snitch but the kid deserved it.

Waterloo 02-01-2019 04:27 PM

It wasn't like he was looking in the armour for no good reason. He just wasn't willing to share that reason with Caolan, okay? Not now and not ever.

ESPECIALLY not now, given that the Ravenclaw was trying to grass him up.

Maxton glared daggers at the other boy, but his demeanour completely changed when he turned his focus onto the house elf. He liked the house elves. So much in fact, that despite their protests, he was often helping them out in the Common Room with their cleaning duties. He was pretty handy with a cleaning charm.

They made great food, it was the least he could do really.

"Don't listen to him, Nimma,"
he said with another roll of his eyes. "Everything's fine here. Just looking for something, that's all. If I leave any fingerprints, promise I'll get rid of 'em."

See? He was a good guy really.

Looking for a place to hide and play truant from class? Or a handy mirror to check your hair on the way to class?

Yesterday, this corridor would have provided plenty of gleaming, shiny options on your way to (or from!) Charms class. Today, however, there were a few conspicuous gaps in the armor line up.

Had the elves taken them for cleaning, perhaps? Or had Peeves taken them for a wander around the castle?

Cage in one hand and his wand in the other, Malachi led the group up to the third floor. The first two floors hadn't seen any mutant activity but the man was no less cautious with this third one. Of course, there was no plan to harm the mutants in any way, but he'd seen the little things swallow Dolly and wouldn't give them the same opportunity with him.

"They like the small crevices. Might be worth it to check the suits before we move on."

What was left of them that was. The mutants had already been through her earlier in the term and made off with a few of them that would need to be replaced. The list of things to be replaced only seemed to grow longer and longer by the day.

"Cages and wands at the ready."

Malachi moved closer to one of the suits. He lifted the head off and tried to get a look at the inside. Anyone home?

Megan excitedly followed Trent. She didn't need him to tell her to keep her wand and cage at the ready; that was completely verbose as they already were. This was what she was born to do, baby! To be out in the field taking care of business.

A suggestion of Summoning the creatures would have been made but these were man-eating little beasts. Who needed them to come shooting towards them? No, it was best everyone did things with caution. "And any other crevices around,'' Megan injected happily.

Did she mention that she was hella impressed with this Castle? Because she was. Too bad she had attended Ilvermorny.

Zoe 03-07-2019 02:29 AM

Flamel wasn't far behind Trent, Baines, and anyone else that may have followed. Blue eyes darted left and right, hoping to catch sight of the little puff balls that had been causing a ruckus and eating that old woman whole. He was more than eager to get rid of the infestation, no matter how cute they were, before anyone else managed to become a snack.

A simple nod of is head was given in response to Trent's direction. In his opinion, there was no need to respond. Their purpose here was pretty straightforward after all. If they saw a pink puff ball, then it needed to be contained.

The Frenchman was cage-less, though both of his hands were occupied. In his right hand at the ready was his wand and Incarcolvo at the forefront of his mind, and the other held onto a glowing Ehwaz stone to aide in trust and cooperation with the little beasts just in case the help of some runic magic was needed.

He then gave his wand a wave and up went one of the suit's heads. Come out, little fur balls. Come out, come out, wherever you are.
