Was Rafferty going to make throwing the students in detention a thing? Probably. Was it fun? So far it had been. He sat in his comfortable chair behind the desk as he waited on Sylvie to show up. Seven o'clock was the time he had determined for her to be here and if she wasn't. Well Rafferty could go on holding detentions for a long as it took.

There was a neat stack of thick books on a table beside his desk. They were actually dusty encyclopedias which he had dug out of storage. Rafferty's aim? To replace them with the comic books Stewart had left in the Ravenclaw common room. It was close to seven o clock now. Surely he would not be kept waiting?

By now, Sylvie was used to detention. You show up, you do things "the muggle way" - as if that's a problem for her, a literal muggleborn - and you go. Not exactly complicated.

But this detention. Ugh. Sylvie was FURIOUS at Rafferty with his stupid face and his stupid nose and his noodly voice and his idiotic decisions to give her unwarranted detention. She was FINE with them, honestly, but now Sylvie felt as if she's missed out on some rule breaking. Maybe she'll go AFTER this detention and do some GRAND rule breaking without getting caught.

Yes, excellent plans, well done Norcott. Also, side note, it is a personal offense on her honour and all muggleborns everywhere, that this S T U P I D man was teaching muggle studies. He is not WORTHY. As she walked through the door just two minutes before seven pm, the sixth year almost forgott she needed to cool it now before she's stuck with Ainsworth for the rest of the term.

Was Norcott going to show up? Rafferty was hoping not. Why? Because nothing would give him greater pleasure than to extend her detention. What a disappointment that she showed up on time. "Norcott.’’ Rafferty straightened up in his chair. A finger pointed to the stacks of books. They were thick, they were dusty, they were old. The total amount? Approximately forty-five.

“Dust these encyclopedias. Not a single speck must remain when you’re done.’’ Rafferty leaned back in the chair which moved backwards. It rendered him to feel more comfortable. “Rags.’’ There was a small pile of them on his desk. “A little water if you need it to get the stubborn specks out.’’ A small plastic bucket held some. “No magic. Begin.’’
