Default Office of Professor Noble

As you enter Professor Noble’s office, the first thing you’ll notice is that it’s utilitarian rather than decorative. Three walls are covered in shelves, two almost groaning at the weight of books on them, and the other housing a number of obscure potions ingredients and equipment. The fourth wall only lacks shelves due to the fireplace. The mantle is sparse, save for a gold wind up clock covered with a glass dome in the centre. A bright fire burns within the grate, a small copper cauldron suspended over it with a spatula self-stirring a mysterious liquid merrily bubbling away.

Of the other furniture, the large wooden desk dominates the room, for the most part covered in various academic books and papers interspersed with a few lesson plans and piles of student work for marking. The only corner not to be covered in paperwork holds a coffee pot and two photo frames, the only evidence of Ignatius’ family. The first contains a torn and tatty picture of a young girl, Professor Noble’s step-daughter, proudly knelt down in her cricket kit, still wearing her pads, and holding her bat. The second photo is clearly much more recent, where Abigail has flourished into a beautiful young lady. A pride comes into Professor Noble’s eyes when he looks at it. It was on her suggestion that he applied for the job at Hogwarts.

While most of the furniture appears mainly functional, the chairs are the exception. Upholstered in an elaborate orange-gold fabric, with detailed carved dark wooden legs, both his own chair and the two for his guests are exquisite pieces in their own right. If Professor Noble has offered you one, do make yourself comfortable - they’re charmed to be just the right amount of cushioned.

Yay, Hamlet! • Cathopper • Disney Fanatic • I was normal once...

As Flynn was heading to dinner, he stopped by Professor Noble's office and slipped his report, which had been assigned to him after he made Felix Felicis last term, under the door. The piece of parchment was folding in half twice with the words "Lucifer" written in the Prefect's terrible, chicken-scratch handwriting.

Quote:
I did not use the damn potions over the summer, and I will not tell you what I am planning on using them for so don't waste your time asking.

The instructions that Nobleman had given him were not very clear. Meaning: no word count or page limit had been given. So, of course, the boy had found a loophole. The man had also said that he wanted to know what the potion was going to be used for over the summer, and now that it was not summer, he did not have to tell the man anything about his future use of the two vials that were in his trunk by his bed.

Now whether Lucifer believed him or not when he said he didn't use it..... well, he didn't care in the slightest. He knew the truth, and that's all that mattered.

He moved on from the office door and began his journey to the Great Hall.

Stuck inside with Sirius | *Splish-Splash* | bamBAM | ☁ Spooktacular ☁

He'd nearly missed the folded parchment, the door catching on the stonework as it did and requiring a strong shove to get inside, sending the parchment skidding across the floor in the process. He really needed to have another word with the caretaker to get it fixed, as it seemed the issue had only got worse in his absence over the summer. From her usual place on the hearth, Annie scowled at the disturbance, and it was only a few minutes later as he bent down to feed her that Noble noticed the scrappy page.

The truly terrible handwriting gave away who it was from, even before he'd deciphered the nickname he'd used or opened it. Lucifer. Alec's sense of humour hadn't changed over the summer then. And Noble was soon rolling his eyes as he read the 'report' itself. A single sentence, and a poorly constructed one at that. And that was before the contraction and just sheer insolence.

A three year-old could have done a better job.

Did he believe what was written? Doubtful. He knew better than to trust anything that came out of the Prefect's mouth these days. Although if Alec truly hadn't used the two golden vials, then that would be an interesting turn of events indeed.

He needed to respond in some way, but the first night was not the time to do so. Especially when there was a trip to the Three Broomsticks with Paul on the agenda. For now, he shoved the parchment on his to-do pile, and retrieved his jacket. If Alec wanted to play the game, Noble would surely find a way to play it better.
