Text Cut: Tryouts Top Post

It's time for the Hufflepuff team to build on that team spirit, discuss what went wrong and right in the last game and most importantly; figure out how to win another game to finally lift that Quidditch Cup.

The Hufflepuff captain; Isa Wright (griffin), will guide you through this practice.

Daisy was experiencing all sorts of feelings as she made her way to the pitch. This was completely different to flying her broom at home. She had bought herself a Firebolt X-Treme broomstick which she was now clutching tightly. Her ideal position would be Keeper or Chaser but she had to pass. What if she didn't make the team? She'll always support her team, no matter what.

Isa had been out on the quidditch pitch long before the scheduled Hufflepuff team tryout time so she could set up. It was strange, thinking that she was captain of the first Hufflepuff quidditch team in eleven years. This wasn’t just any team, it was her team. She didn’t have as much match experience as Skylar, but that wasn’t going to stop Isa from trying. Since getting the badge, Isa had been busy strategizing and planning for the team, and Derf’s notes were a lot of help too.

Four stations had been set up for the Hufflepuff tryouts. There was an agility course of sorts with signs posted of which way to turn to test basic flying abilities and broom control. Chasers would be throwing the quaffle through the hoops, while keepers would be blocking the quaffle. Beaters would be practicing hitting bludgers at targets, some of which were charmed to move for an extra challenge. Those trying out for seeker would be tasked with chasing and catching the snitch.

With everything set up, Isa mounted her new Firebolt X-treme her parents had bought her for being selected as quidditch captain and flew a few warm up laps around the pitch. Spotting her first candidate for the team, Isa descended and dismounted her broomstick. ”Hi Daisy! What position are you trying out for? We’ll be getting started once more people show up.” Would there be a good turnout for tryouts? Isa knew Derf would be coming, and hopefully there would be many more Hufflepuffs trying out. At the back of Isa’s mind she was worrying that no one would show up for tryouts and the team would be a horrible failure. However, Daisy was already here which made Isa confident that more Hufflepuffs would show up, and Isa knew she could build a strong team with Derf at her side supporting her.

Daisy smiled as Isa descended towards her. She couldn't help but notice the broomstick. "I see we share tastes in broomsticks," Daisy said as she showed Isa her own Firebolt X-Treme. Suddenly, her voice hitched with nerves as she mentioned her ideal place on the team. "I would love to be Keeper or Chaser. I think my agility is best suited for those roles. Being a Beater is out because I don't have the upper body strength required."

Bel was AMPED for this. All of the previous school year she'd been learning a thing or two or ten about Quidditch thanks to her very generous and very skilled friends very patiently giving her all sorts of lessons. It was exciting that there was something action-packed and physical that she'd be able to do at the school since she'd missed that so badly upon moving here.

She had been preparing for her tryouts to be on one of the school brooms but Cam had offered for her to use his. Honestly, who said Slytherins weren't lovely? And it was custom too. Maybe a little too long for her, but much much better than the school brooms, which is what she'd be relegated to after tryouts were done, if she made the team. And besides, Cam's broom was one that she'd been learning on, along with Abey's, so she was perfectly comfortable using it. Plus she was used to manhandling a great big motorbike so a slightly too long broom was no sweat for her to connect with whatsoever.

Dressed in some of her motocross gear (sans helmet of course) she hoisted Cam's broom over her shoulder and headed out onto the pitch. Of course she didn't have any Quidditch stuff to wear (hopefully that was a yet?) so it made sense to Bel to wear what she knew would be comfortable and durable.

And look, the captain was there already, as well as her dormmate, Daisy. Bel waved cheerfully as she approached and came to a stop, letting the end of the broomstick drop from her shoulder and rest against the ground, tail twigs up. It really was a nice broom. She'd owe Cam big time.

"G'day! I'm SO excited. I bet the entire HOUSE shows up!" Which wasn't great for her chances, but she'd still enjoy that atmosphere at the least.

Derf hadn't been able to find his other glove and had spent a good part of the morning quite literally tearing apart the dormroom looking for it - sorry Simon for leaving a mess, he WAS running late - and in an ironic twist of fate had found it in the last place he had looked: in his trouser pocket. Oops. If it had been a basilisk he would be dead.

BUT STILL! His gloves were in hand and he was all geared up in his quidditch robes from summer camp with the addition of a Magpies jersey in Alice's number for good luck. Clutching his Moonbrusher tightly in his hand (he was still a liiiiiiiiittle bitter he wasn't allowed a Thunderbolt 5000 but he would get over it - had to pick and choose his battles with dad after the whole polyjuice fiasco that had been last term) to the point that his knuckles were turning white, Derf burst on to the pitch and began immediately making his way over towards Isa.

FLYING. NO. NOT JUST FLYING. QUIDDITCH! F I N A L L Y.

Howeeeeever, Bel's appearance certainly called for his attention. Of course he recognize the attire she wore and it brought a smile to his already giddy face. "Looking sharp, Bel," he greeted her with an eager pat on the shoulder, eyeing her motocross gloves a moment. "When you make the team..." Because HE was confident in his friend's natural athleticism. "I'll take you first Hogsmeade weekend to get yourself a proper pair of quidditch ones," he offered with a grin.

Rocking back and forth on his feet, because it was kinda impossible to stand still at the moment, Derf looked over at Daisy and offered her a grin as well. "Hiya, Daisy," he greeted while bouncing on the balls of his feet.

And then he essentially bounced his way over to Isa. He was just really excited, alright? He felt like a feline running around in a field of catnip.

"How you feeling, captain?" he beamed at the fifth year as and rested the tail twig end of his broom against his shoulder and let the handle slid down until it hit the ground.

At the sight of Bel's appearance, Daisy's face fell very, very slightly which she quickly masked with a smile. Daisy had no problem seeing Bel but seeing her athletism made Daisy almost want to leave. She was determined to see this through so she focused her mind.

When Derf greeted Daisy, she gave a meek smile and wave.

Honestly Harriet wasn't sure how good her chances were. She had only been cleared to fly during the summer, but she was hoping it would be okay. She hadn't been interested in quidditch too much. But it was a like a right of passage, or really had been before it had been banned, so she was at least going to try out. If it made Sky shut up for a little while then it would be worth it too.

She was excited though. She had loved flying before she'd had to stop, so she was looking forward to getting onto a broom again. Maybe she'd see if her mama would get her one if she did make the team. The blonde smiled as she headed onto the quidditch team. "Hey guys" She greeted. "This is gonna be so much fun"

Emmalyn made her way onto the field. She looked around at all of the older Hufflepuffs and wondered if she even dared tryout for the team. She was much smaller than they were, but she knew she was fast and had many years of experience playing goalie for her hometown soccer and lacrosse teams.

Noticing some familiar faces, she walked over to the group a little more confident. "Hi Daisy, hi Derf!" She waved excitedly before turning towards the other students she hadn't met yet. "Hi, I'm Emmalyn!" She bounced as she spoke. Her enthusiasm and nerves were getting the better of her bodily control. She hoped the others were as anxious for the tryouts to start as she was.

She then noticed the motocross gear on one of the girls and seriously began to wonder what she had gotten herself into. She glanced down at her athletic shirt and pants, covered only by her school robe, since she wasn't quite sure if she needed it, and hoped they would provide enough protection for what was to come.

Kimi made his way into the locker room he was ready for tryouts and said "Hey guys" Kimi had been practicing through his summer qudditch league in the summer close to his home and he hoped that he would be good enough for the team

Emma was excited to see quidditch tryouts reappear. She loved practicing with her brothers and sister and couldn't wait to get into the air again. Heading out to the pitch with her broomstick she saw the pitch already filled with others from her house. Merlin, there were a lot already and she thought she was early! Biting her lip she moved to stand next to the others. Was she good enough to play for the house team?

What was she doing? What WAS she doing? Scarlett did not know WHAT had possessed her to tryout for Quidditch, but...here she was. She had practiced with Clay the last three summers ever since he had convinced his parents to let him go to camp, mostly playing Keeper but stepping playing the other positions just for fun as well. Still, she wouldn't call herself a true player by any means. In fact, it was ironic that SHE was out here and her brother wasn't - something about him being too nervous about failing to try out. She had tried to argue that was a stupid reason to not do something, and she had hoped he had started to grow SOMEWHAT of a backbone after he told her about that girl he liked...but nah. Apparently not.

So, since HE wasn't trying out, she had convinced him to let her borrow his broom. It was nothing fancy, an older Firebolt model, but it did the trick. She was skinny and light enough to still have it move pretty fast. It worked for her.

The nerves she was feeling were all too easy to spot, as the usually talkative 7th year entered the pitch. She smiled and greeted the captain, Isa, with a quiet hello and a wave - she didn't know a whole lot about the girl, to be honest. She gulped as she looked around at the others trying out - Derf, Daisy, Kimi, the new girl who looked like she was going to a Muggle motorcycle rally...this was some stiff competition. Or so she assumed. Everyone else seemed more...prepared.

This was going to be tough. What was she THINKING??

Night honestly just wanted to see what this was all about. She'd read all about Quidditch, of course, and she knew her best shot would be to try out for Chaser. She probably wouldn't get it, though, and that was okay. She'd rather join some other clubs (did Hogwarts have a book club?), but Quidditch was all anyone ever talked about, so she'd give it a go. But was a T-shirt and yoga pants the correct way to go? Was there special attire? Everyone looked so experienced.

She remembered that before Harry Potter, first years hadn't even been allowed to try out. Well, now she was about to show Hogwarts that they were probably right in that department. Oh well.

She spotted Emmalyn talking to some other people and took a deep breath before walking over to the girl she met at the feast. "Hey," she said. Do you think you'll be any good?"

Then, she noticed a girl in full motorcross gear. Her nerves were plummeting by the minute.

"Odessa." Bel read off the back off Derf's black and white jersey. "Who's Odessa?" That was a Quidditch jersey she was PRETTY sure, but she still wasn't super familiar with the UK teams after all. Anyway, curious!

She smiled at his shoulder pat and 'looking sharp' comment. "Well I don't have any Quidditch stuff so I figured this was the closest thing that I have for practicality and comfort." She followed his gaze to her hands and then looked back up at him at his shopping offer. Quidditch gloves.

"Oh thanks, D, that sounds fun." That WOULD be pretty....

.... handy.

Her face broke into a smile, and pleased with herself, she shared her punniness with Derf. "It will be very handy to have the right gloves." GEDDIT, D? GEDDIT?

Bel didn't notice the looks she was getting. Or, well, more accurately, she noticed them, but didn't think anything of it. They were all making do with what they had, right? Clothing wise?

She smiled excitedly at Daisy, and hearing the first year introduce herself, Bel went ahead and did the same, including the other first year with a smile. "G'day Emmalyn! M'name's Bel, I'm in my third year - me and Daisy are dormies." Her Australian twang was thick as usual, something that every now and then threw up roadblocks in people understanding her.

Oh there were some of the older girls here too. Bel watched them each approach and smiled brightly, wondering if they were about to blitz the tryouts with amazing skills. The part that was exciting was that it was shaping up to be a pretty social thing, right? And that was fun. Bel hoped she'd make the team of course, but it looked like, even if she only got to be a reserve, she'd be in a for a coolfun time.

Lots of people were arriving! Which was good because already there was enough for a house team even if nobody else showed.

She was PRETTY sure more people would though, and was finding it hard to contain her eagerness. Kimi and Emma both got a smile and wave from her, though she didn't know either of them any further than their names after only the one year of being at Hogwarts so far.

Was it nearly time to start?

She started hopping foot to foot in excitement like a Snitchseeker leprechaun emoji, half warm up, half eagerness.

Goodness, there were going to be heaps of competition for the position of Hufflepuff Quidditch team players. Daisy was not in the least bit surprised as she watched more of her fellow Badger make their way onto the Pitch

As she waited for instructions, Emmalyn watched more and more of her housemates show up for tryouts. "Hi Night!" She smiled nervously to her fellow first year. "I've never played before, but I'm hoping all of the time I spent being a goalie for my teams back home will help." She motioned blocking a goal then did a little celebration dance. "How about you? Have you played before?"

Another older student arrived at the tryouts and Emmalyn felt her chances slipping further and further away. She began running the numbers in her head trying to calculate her chances. "It's nice to meet you, Bel." She smiled and held out her hand for Bel to shake. "Daisy and I met at the feast. She was so nice and even told Night and me about how to do well at school." Emmalyn's nerves were starting to get the better of her and she was rambling. She blushed and started fiddling with her bracelet in hopes that keeping her hands busy would quiet her mouth.

They greeting from Daisy helped refocus her energy. "I'm a bit nervous, to be honest. I didn't know so many from our house would be trying out."

In hopes of giving herself every advantage, Emmalyn started to do some stretching to limber up before it all started. The last thing she needed was to pull a muscle and have to sit out. No, she was going to do the absolute best she could do. If she didn't make the team, it wasn't going to be because she didn't try her hardest. They were all in for a fight.

Isa smiled at Daisy. ”I’m looking forward to seeing your skills once we get started.” Oh look, a second person! This was going great! ”Hi Bel! Ready for tryouts?” The third year was certainly dressed for the occasion. Ah, here was Derf. Isa grinned as Derf bounded up to her. ”I’m excited to see what quidditch talent everyone’s got! I can’t believe this is really happening right now. Ready to show off your beater skills, Derf?” After so long without quidditch at Hogwarts, it was weird that these were the first Hufflepuff tryouts in over ten years. Isa greeted people as they arrived, glancing at her watch to see if it was time for tryouts to start yet.

As more people showed up, Isa decided that the tryouts could begin. Looked like there was a good turnout! ”Welcome to the Hufflepuff quidditch tryouts! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Isa Wright and I’m captain this year. I’ll be playing chaser on the team, so I’m looking for two chasers, two beaters, a keeper, a seeker, and three reserve players. To start off, I’d like everyone to introduce themselves by saying your name, year, position you’re most interested in, and what experience you have with quidditch or flying.” Isa waited for everyone to introduce themselves before moving on to the more exciting part of tryouts. ”There are a few different stations set up here, which will help me determine which position you will be best suited for. I’d like everyone to complete the flying obstacle course set up over here, which will test your speed and agility.” She gestured to where the obstacle course was set up. ”Those trying out for chaser or keeper will be over by the goalposts, chasers tossing the quaffle at the goals and a keeper defending them. Beaters will be aiming bludgers at the targets over there, and seekers will be practicing chasing and catching the snitch. You are welcome to try as many of these stations as you wish, and I ask that you complete the obstacle course and at least one of the other stations.” Time for everyone to get to the stations. Isa was all ready for taking notes on the team candidates and timing people on the obstacle course. Most of the stations were set up to accommodate at least two people at a time, but everyone would have to rotate through the timed obstacle course. Isa mounted her broomstick and hovered above the ground, ready to fly high enough to get a good view of the goalposts and everything else going on. ”You may begin now!”

OOC: Tryouts are officially starting now! To keep things moving I’m combining the introductions with the start of the stations, so have your character introduce themselves, mount their broom, and head on over to one of the stations! If you come in late it’s okay to pretend that your charrie has been here all along. Feel free to VM/PM me if you have any questions. Please remember to also fill out the survey!

Daisy took a step forward and began to introduce herself.

"Hey there. My name is Daisy Swann and I am a Third-Year. I'm trying out for the position of Keeper but I am also interested in being a Chaser. I've been flying since the age of three but I've not been involved in Summer Quidditch leagues. That is not going to stop me from trying my best."

Daisy then hopped on her broom, heading for the goal posts to audition for Keeper first of all. She firmly gripped the handle of her broom awaiting for those Quaffles to be thrown.

"Please let me not make a fool of myself," she thought to herself a determined expression on her face.

Harriet just smiled at everyone. She had spoken a little, but she was remaining silent now. To be honest she was a little nervous. She really wanted to make the team. She didn't think she would have felt this much about it, but she was actually pretty interested in getting on the team. She was determined to get on the team. Hattie was a pretty determined person, so she hoped that it would be good. She just needed to try her very best and then hopefully it would be enough for her to be on the team. She remained silent though, for now, wanting to concentrate and get into the zone.

She smiled, as Isa started talking. She hoped to do well, or at least not embarrass herself. Oh. Introductions? "Hey guys" She mused with a smile. "I'm Harriet, but call me Hattie. I'm a sixth year. I dunno what position I want really, and I haven't really played quidditch, apart from at home with my family" Maybe she wouldn't mention she'd played with two kids that had been members of the under 17 team, she didn't want to intimidate people.

And now she needed to go to a station. Knowing that Sky had said she might be good as a seeker, the girl knew she needed to go there, but she headed for the chaser bit first, wanting to warm up a little before she had a go at the seeker one. "Hey Daisy" She mused with a smile. "Shall I try to score and you can defend?"

Derf frowned slightly at Daisy's reaction. That seemed...rather unlike the third year, didn't it? He reckoned she was nervous - they all were, sorta, even if it was nervous-giddy-eager excitement like himself - so he tried to convey some additional encouragement in the wave he returned to her. And it was during said wave that he spotted Hattie approaching the pitch and at FIRST he thought she was here to support pitch side rather than watching from the stands. That is...until she said that and the fourth year was pleasantly surprised since, well, he knew a thing or two and had sorta witnessed something in his first year. So there was some relief as well...but also CONCERN. So his thoughts were a bit muddled as stuff...so he didn't really give the older girl a proper greeting other than a toothy smile.

"Emmalyn! Hey!" Derf grinned at the first year. "Great to see you throwing yourself into school activities!"
He ought to catch up with her and the other first years, maybe hold some sort of mini meeting over roasting marshmallows in the common room,
about extra curriculars since there were loads of options. And he was also shamelessly looking for more people to trade chocolate frog cards with seeing as he was falling dangerously behind schedule with his collection and his projected capacity by now. Kimi, Emma, Amanda all got small smiles as they approached, and then his bright blues fell upon Scarlett and his smile widened just a tiny bit more while his waving became a bit more eager. At least until Bel pulled his attention again.

"Odessa?" he repeated with a bit of a perplexed look. But then it clicked and he quickly tugged his jersey over his shoulder and yup...sure enough...his piece of cloth he had taped to it FIXING the problem of the last name had fallen off somewhere. Denial was a thing, you see. "Oh um..." he chuckled while ruffling his hair a bit more, perhaps even his ears turning a slightly reddish hue. "Player that I admire loads...and a family friend and stuff and like...known her since I was a baby. She is really neat and awesome and fierce...and was quidditch captain while at Hogwarts. My mum was her professor too." He ought to write to Alice again, sans lizard tail bouquet, about quidditch stuff. Or MAYBE he should wait until he knew whether or not he had made the team... "Handy?" He had sorta been zoning out there a moment, rocking back on his heels a bit, and had sorta not heard everything Bel was saying. "Oooooh!" He got it! "Good one," he chuckled, giving her side a friendly nudge with his elbow.

Smiling at Isa, he gave her shoulder a few friendly pats. "Definitely," he grinned, giving the captain's shoulder one - okay three because he was excited and unable to stand still for too long -
more pat before moving away to join the rest of the quidditch team hopefuls as Isa officially kicked things off.

"Name's Derfael," he began, hands drumming on the handle of his broom while his head rested against the tail twigs. "But most people call me Derf." The next bit made him pause a moment to ruffle his hair. "Uh...I'm a fourth year....aaaaaaaaaaaand been on a broom and interested in quidditch since I was 4. Loads of summer camps. Little bit of competitive pitch time in the U-14 league back in Australia. Groundskeeper Baldvinsson named me a Fantastic Flyer the past two terms...um...used to play Chaser and Beater, kinda alternating when needed...but recently been focusing on beating."

Pulling out his bat while Isa explained the stations, Derf gave an eager look around at his housemates. He was so READY to just mount his broom and get GOING. He supposed he could start off hitting things at targets, but right now he really just wanted to get reacquainted to being on his broom on the Hogwarts quidditch pitch and how THAT atmosphere felt. Plus there was nothing quite like feeling the wind on your face and stuff while zooming around...so that made his choice obvious. "Obstacle course?" he ask, inclining his head slightly towards Bel. "Good warm up for the positional tasks AND fun."

"Oh, cool! Well I hope you get good luck from wearing it." Bel answered cheerfully, not really any the wiser from that revelation since she still didn't know who the player was, but if Derfael was a fan, then that said loads really.

Not that he NEEDED luck, but.... okay well maybe he needed luck. Not because Derf would have a problem with the Quidditch part, but what if, for instance, a rogue Slytherin girl suddenly descended on him again? That might cause him some problems, and she'd hate to see him not bring his O-game for any reason. So yes, good luck.

She nudged him back cheerily at his recognition of her very good pun and right then the captain addressed them all.

It was starting! Bel stopped her excited shuffling about listened as Isa introduced herself and then as others started doing the same. Her turn too. She cleared her throat and spoke up cheerfully.

"I'm Bel Macindoe and I'm in third year and I don't have much experience yet apart from with mates -one of them let me snag his broom!" She lifted the end of it up from the pitch and sort of waved the tail twig end at everyone. "But I guess lots of us don't have all that much experience, right? Umm... I have done tons of other sporty stuff back home in 'stralia though, reckon some of you might have guessed," She gestured at herself and her outfit. Had people noticed it? Maybe they thought she was weird? "Motocross for one, oh and I surf and skate, not that I wanna big-note myself, but I reckon I'm pretty good at riding fast and tricky things. Anyways I thought I'd give seeker a burl" A BIT nerve-wracking, really, but she was going for it all the same.

Bel was already fairly warmed up given she had been bouncing from foot to foot for a few minutes prior to the tryouts officially beginning but she was a bit surprised that there wasn't a warm up. There WAS the obstacle course though, she supposed. And she'd start with that. It would make a decent one, right? Then it would be on to the seeker station.

"Yeah! Lets get to it! Race ya there on foot!" Bel took off running, Cameron's broom in hand, racing for the start of the course. Well what? It was gonna help with the warming up part. The flying bit would come in a few minutes, as soon as they got over there!

Emmelyn stopped stretching when the Captain made her announcement. She turned to her fellow housemates and gave an almost evil grin. "Good luck to everyone. It's on!"

Emmalyn mounted her school supplied broom and gave it a little kick to get her just off the ground. "Hi to all of you. I'm Emmalyn Walsh, first year, and I'm trying out for the position of Keeper. I would, however, be perfectly happy to play any position, I just want to be as useful as possible to the team." She glanced around to judge the atmosphere and determine if any of them thought she has the slightest of chances. "I'm fairly new to flying and I don't have any quidditch experience, but I do have loads of experience being a goalie. I think that will come in handy."

After the rest of the students finished their introductions, she angled her broom towards the obstacle course, gently leaned forward, and accelerated towards her destination. Upon arrival, she noticed a nice mix of students starting at each of the different testing areas. She felt this would work in her advantage, not having to directly race another older student.

Sizing up the course was the first thing she did. She flew a bit above the and to the outside of the obstacles to see how best to maneuver. Once she felt as confident as she was going to, she took off through the course. It was much harder than she estimated. Every time she was able to gain some speed, another hairpin turn would appear or barricade to zoom around. About half way through, she was really getting into it and excelling, for a first year. Once she finished she looked back at what she accomplished and beamed with pride.
"How was that, Captain?"

Then it was time for her to get over to the keeper and chasers area. She eyed her competition and patiently waited on the side of the goals. "I'm next." she stated to the group and watched intently each and every move the older, more experienced, players made.

Scarlett felt the color draining from her face as more and more people introduced themselves. She had been hoping she would be one of the few people trying out for Keeper - and instead, LOTS of people wanted that position. The one that had only ONE player, of course. She tried not to let it rattle her, though, as it finally came time for her to introduce herself.

"Hi everyone! I'm Scarlett, and I'm a seventh year. I'm trying out for Keeper," she said with a smile. "But I've also played Chaser and Seeker before for my brother. I've helped him the last three summers while he practiced for camp," she explained.

Alright, that hadn't been so bad. Now she just had to put her skills to the test! Since a few people had already partnered up for chaser and keeper practice, she decided to head to the obstacle course, so she grabbed her broom and headed in that direction.

Kimi smiled and said "Hey everyone, I am Kimi, and i'm a fifth year. I am undecided on where to try out but i have played as both beater and chaser for my summer league team" Kimi mounted his broom and made his way over to the beater station hoping that he could test his skills
